still wet after all these years...

thanks for the texture layers Texture Time and darkwood67 :D

happy sliders sunday!

Silver and Figs - 24"x18" - what an enjoyable journey this painting has been! From collecting vintage silver, the precarious set up, and getting paint down! This is the 4th "prop stack" painting in the series. Each time I always use at least one family piece that has been handed down and each time I am always surprised at how sturdy the set up is. Still wet, but it has been added to the website in the Still Life Portfolio. Time to take the set-up down. . .

When I visited Rancho Esquon on Friday, it was a busy day in the hatchery room! This Wood Duck was still in the process of drying off from its recent hatch as was the Mallard in the third shot. Several of the group that had hatched within hours were ready to join suitable companions outside under the heat lamps. The hand placement of these babies is the last time until banding that they will experience any physical human contact.

Turkey eggs are brought in on occasion for hatching. Contrary to the other birds that Loretta hatches, Turkeys are born with fully developed and feathered wings.

sometimes I feel like putting my hands up in the air . . .

For some reason this one has a lot more views than my other photos that happen to have more comments. I suppose this photo insinuates enough interest for a click to view it a bit larger but nothing more than that. Not that I really care. I just think it's interesting.

He had just got out of the pool. So I swooped down to his height and took the shot of the boy. I really like Plus-X.

I had topped up the birdbath this morning and a procession of small birds were making use of it. Sparrows, Dunnocks and this little guy. I'm not sure if he/she is a Willow Warbler or a Chiffchaff. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

Now ID'd as a Chiiffchaff by Campag3953 . Thanks Andrew.

Once upon a time, we were all kids in summer too... running wild and looking happily for fun anywhere we could find it...

I bet that's why this photo connects with me deeply, somehow.... memories and feelings.

Let her do the baking.

Let her make butterbread from the ashes

of days burnt together collecting

-- from breeze, from snowfall --

the flour and water, the yeast

of the Phoenix sunrise.

Her hands are large and stillwet,

boats on supple water flying sails

that race the wind's sifting waves.

In summer,

give her coxcomb and queenannslace

to knot in her hair,

let her gather chokecherries

and press them into bitter liqueur

to glitter red in next season's sun.

Read the poem written

in her hand:

Hold Your Peace.

- from Woman in Tall Black, c. 1986

Think I've about finished this, but when do you stop?

looks better large

i should have put these out earlier when the sun was stronger. it got really cool this afternoon so i brought them inside to finish drying.

fleece from natalie (namaste farms).

It was so wet a month ago that the trails are still very soupy. The blanket of leaves allow a degree of cushioning from the wetness. But when you come to something like this it's time to go back. But it was really nice to take a brief stroll along the woods trail!

Notice how much green there is.

I took this photo at 2 p.m. Apparently, it was pasted up at 1:50 p.m. (I didn't see it go up, but I was there just moments later.) The big puddle of wet wheatpaste on the ground tipped me off...I was pretty excited to find a new wheatpaste.

25 minutes old, and just before he decided to get up, try his legs, and look for the milk-bar.

Trout is at the Monte Clark Gallery

Checking out his new temporary home after a quick flight in my workroom. Straight from camera.

Came over to look at me looking at him. I offered him/her a piece of fruit just in case. not interested yet though the proposcis looks well formed. Straight from camera. He was on my left hand while I took shot with right. Not always easy.
