...but, with a different look! It is the Joseph W. Russ Jr. House built in the 1800's (1892-1895) in Marianna, Florida. I can remember when the home fell into disrepair and was in need of major renovations. Thankfully, this came to fruition and I toured the home after all of its glory was restored. It is in the U. S. National Register of Historic Places.
Still Here
by Langston Hughes
I been scared and battered.
My hopes the wind done scattered.
Snow has friz me,
Sun has baked me,
Looks like between 'em they done
Tried to make me
Stop laughin', stop lovin', stop livin'--
But I don't care!
I'm still here!

We’re Here! in a white-out.
This is a composite of an old shed I just photographed, several really old snow scenes from Colorado, and some weathered farm equipment provided by jus tt for fun. Mike is hosting this week’s “Treat This” challenge at Kreative People. You can see the original shot in the first comment box below.
Entered in the “Winter Reds” contest at The Award Tree.
2025 didn’t feel like a chapter...
It felt like something we had to survive...
This was the year everything got laid bare... Distance... Timing... Mental health... Fear... Old wounds that didn’t stay buried. Nothing about it was gentle. But what remained was honest. What stayed was chosen, again and again, even when it would have been easier not to.
There were moments I didn’t feel strong. Moments where I questioned my footing, my worth, my ability to keep showing up the way love asks you to. And every time I started to drift, you grounded me. Not with promises. Not with spectacle. With presence. With steadiness. With a care that didn’t flinch when things got heavy.
You saw me when I was tired in my bones, not just my body. You let me rest without taking anything from me. You believed in me in the quiet spaces where I was still learning how to believe in myself again. That kind of faith changes the shape of a person.
This year taught me that love isn’t about never breaking. It’s about knowing exactly where the cracks are and choosing to protect each other anyway. We learned how to speak without cutting. How to listen without bracing. How to lie down together instead of pulling apart.
I won’t pretend 2026 will be easy. Growth never is. But it doesn’t scare me the way it used to. It feels closer...It feels like moving forward with our eyes open and our hands locked TOGETHER.
Another year of becoming better, together.
And still so much life left to live.
I love you.
Soon won’t be a wish anymore.
Our visiting Baltimore Oriole, my dear! The last time we saw it was last Wed, almost a week ago, before some bad storms blew through our area, so he guessed it had moved on before the storms hit.
However, today, shortly after the mealworm feeder was filled, I happened to glance out the window and nearly fainted from excitement! I raced to tell my sister, "The Oriole is still here!"
This shot was grabbed when he flew to the tree right outside our sunroom, so not as clear as I'd like. Now our fingers are crossed it'll show up again and we can get a clear shot of it before it leaves.
Knowing the hummingbirds are about to leave any day now, any sighting is considered a good one.
We'd hope to spend some time today trying to get some shots, but the weather was not too cooperative. They are still here, so fingers crossed our mission to get one last hummer shot will be a success.
Until then, I'm posting this shot of one taken the other day when it flew into the nearby camellia bush after visiting the feeder. It seems this branch is more suited as a "territorial hide' so it can guard that feeder from any would be intruders.
Taken through the window so not as clear as I'd like.
It's been a few weeks since I've seen Rat Tail, our little squirrel visitor with a ratty looking tail. I was beginning to wonder if the fur had grown back, and now he was blending in with the others.
But no. He showed up the other day to check out one of the Goodie Bowls, and that tail still looks ratty - maybe a tiny bit more fur than before, but I can't be sure. Otherwise, he looks great!
Much to our delight, the Baltimore Oriole is still here!!! We see him almost every day, but getting shots of him is very tricky.
It's like he has superpowers to sense when one of us is at the "birdwatching" window, and will not fly over to the mealworm feeder if he sees us.
This afternoon, no too long after filling the mealworm feeder for a second time, we spotted him from the window over the kitchen sink. So, with camera in hand, I'm leaning over the sink, trying to get shots through the branches of the bush right outside that window. Then the Brown Thrasher flew up and chased the Oriole out of the feeder, so he perched in this Rose of Sharon tree for a few minutes, where I was able to get some shots that weren't feeder shots.
The Orioles that have shown up in the past usually left in early March, so this may have been our final sighting. Fingers crossed he'll stick around for another few days, but only time will tell.
I really appreciate the kind messages that so many of you have been sending to me here and on Facebook and Twitter. I'm sorry that I haven't really been able to talk about what's going on. It's an extremely difficult time and it's a private matter. I have the support of my family and my closest friends and this will be ok...eventually. Right now it's just really hard. I'm not getting enough sleep and my eyes are perma-swollen from crying. But it will get better. Eventually. I know it will. Jenna shared a quote with me and it's so apt right now, so I'll end with it here.
I wish this were easier. But nothing in life worth having is easy. And I can't think of anything worth having more than this.
Several weeks ago, while doing some birdwatching, I spotted something in a patch of grass under one of the feeders. Since it never came out into the open, I zoomed in to see what it was.,, and surprise - a White-throated Sparrow!
Somewhat of a rare visitor we usually see in small numbers in the winter months. This one must have been a straggler, perhaps fueling up for its migration north.

Beautiful downtown Providence, Rhode Island anchored by the equally beautiful mural, Still Here by Gaia.
Apologies to you all for not keeping up with your streams! I've been a little busy but just wanted to stop by say hey and that I promise I'll catch up real soon!
This image is soft but I like it...who says it has to be sharp all the time! :)
Another sighting of our rare visitor, the Baltimore Oriole!
Equally exciting and frustrating. Exciting because she's still here, (or possibly another one?)! Frustrating, because the only shots I could get today were through the window!
I'd put out fresh jelly in the jelly feeder this morning, just in case she was still here as it's been a few days since the last sighting. When I looked out a few hours later - there she was... and she was still there when I returned with my camera!
Taken through a window so not a clear as I'd like, but I won't complain too much under the circumstances.
can't believe i havn't put this one up here before, its one of my favourite shots from my book!
my blog:
Some of you might remember the story of the little red wall from Munich I found right on my doorstep in NightPhotographer's absence... well, it's still here - since Helmut has so many red walls, it decided to stay in Düsseldorf. It has befriended his neighbour, the tree - and this is the greeting I get on a sunny day when coming home... I love it!
..if you have the day off ..i wish you a happy long weekend :-)
have a excellent week
