A rare break in the clouds presented a great rainbow and spectacular shadow effects on the rolling hills.
This is a very old shot from October 2006 taken on a 4 megapixel Canon A80 (my first digital camera!). No raw file with this camera unfortunately.
I've re-edited in LR4 and re-posted it because I like it (and my hike yesterday prompted me dig through some old files from walks in the UK)!

...a winter's walk at the weekend, around my local landscape, which was transformed into the steppes of Siberia by snow and mist!
A new stile fitted on the path next to Llyn Cowlyd in the Conwy Valley. This path leads towards Capel Curig from the lakes edge. Glad to see the Snowodnia National Park maintaining the paths.
For the last month it has been very wet here. Not great for humans in summer, but plants lap it up. The Hogweed's as prolific as I've ever seen it, there's likely to be a bumper hay harvest (if the rain stops), and it's getting difficult to climb stiles - if you can find them. Here is some evidence from our Sunday walk.
I couldn't resist hitting a couple of Texas ghost towns on the way home from Colorado. This one is from Stiles, TX.

The city was founded in 1679 by the then Governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel.
Both Dutch and Huguenots settled in Stellenbosch.
It was above all the latter who started viticulture in the valley, where today the most renowned South African wines are produced.
The Mediterranean climate, typical of the entire Western Cape, is ideal for this type of cultivation.
The city is home to one of South Africa's leading universities (the oldest), which trains a large part of the Afrikaner elite.

With a reasonable weather forecast predicted I decided to get up for the sunrise yesterday morning and headed up above Castleton to see how I would get on from the top of Winnats Pass. The wind was incredible as I made my way over the fields towards the pass that I was virtually blown off my feet but it was more than worth it as the pre dawn light was fantastic. I just loved the light falling on this stile so I stopped and set up my camera to capture it before I ruined the pristine snow that had fallen overnight.
