I had just taken off from my place this weekend when I noticed a large stick bug crawling around on the bottom of my driver's side mirror! I told him "hold on, don't move and I'll find a place to pull over and take your picture!" youtu.be/CWpND8GhBuU

Shot in Silver City, New Mexico

Do me this one HUGE favor, and View LARGE on BLACK. It's more fun that way.

I caught these two racing around our birdbath last October. When it was still warm. As you can see by the photo finish, the stickbug won by an ankle.

Wonderful texture by hey amy.

Stick Bug - New South Wales, Australia

The Phasmatodea are an order of insects, whose members are variously known as stick insects, walking sticks or stick-bugs, phasmids, ghost insects and leaf insects. Found this guy hanging out on my car. So I'm giving the Macro Photography a try...

Found hanging around an Amish Store.

Enjoy your Saturday!

From Wikipedia

The Phasmatodea (also known as Phasmida or Phasmatoptera) are an order of insects, whose members are variously known as stick insects in Europe and Australasia; stick-bugs, walking sticks or bug sticks in the United States and Canada; or as phasmids, ghost insects or leaf insects (generally the family Phylliidae). The group's name is derived from the Ancient Greek φάσμα phasma, meaning an apparition or phantom, referring to the resemblance of many species to sticks or leaves. Their natural camouflage makes them difficult for predators to detect.

The long “thorn” at the end of the abdomen is the female’s ovipositor, which is used to lay eggs under soft soil.

Hands belong to daughter's bf....they saw the stick bug on the wall of a building and brought it over because "gangie wants to see it" granddaughter said....

It was the creepiest thing ever! BF tried to put it on me, I had to threaten him. View large if you have a minute.

Did you know?? .... there are over 3,000 species of stick bugs in the world and they can be almost a foot long when they are full grown.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all know that I appreciate your comments, however, awards and invites are not necessary.

This "stick bug" was crawling up my leg while I was sitting at my desk. It must have crawled onto my shoe while outdoors and I gave it a free ride into my home. I gently picked it up and put it on my front porch. It crawled onto this dead leaf and that's when I decided to run and grab my camera! It was nighttime and pretty cold but I got down on my hands and knees to get down to "his level" and started taking shots. I like how you can see his shadow underneath him. It kind of makes it look like 2 bugs instead of one.

The chance of actually finding these things in the wild are incredibly hard because of their camouflage.... and this guy literally drops on my head for a photo shoot lol.

The Phasmatodea (also known as Phasmida, Phasmatoptera or Spectra) are an order of insects whose members are variously known as stick insects, stick-bugs, walking sticks, stick animals, or bug sticks.

Phasmids are herbivorous, feeding mostly on the leaves of trees and shrubs, and a conspicuous component of many Neotropical systems. Phasmatodea has been postulated as dominant light-gap herbivores there. Their role in the forest ecosystem is considered important by many scientists, who stress the significance of light gaps in maintaining succession and resilience in climax forests. The presence of phasmids lowers the net production of early successional plants by consuming them and then enriches the soil by defecation. This enables the late succession plants to become established and encourages the recycling of the tropical forest.

This is an one day old diapherodes gigantea nymph. Newly hatched gigantea nymphs do not move for a couple of day. I took that advantage and tried to shoot a couple of live subject stacking attempts. This is the first of the serie.

This is the collection of 10 parts from the "Creepy Crawly" category for the MOCathalon 2013 (team Clutch Builders: Si-MOCs, Blake Baer, Legonardo Davidy, K.Kreations)

So after building one bug... there was just no stopping, and this is the end result!

Lots of inspiration was taken from various builders as battle bugs and lego insects have often been explored. I tried to tag a few key people in the evolution and inspiration of our lego bugs Doctor Mobius, Lino M, ROOK, and Sir Nadroj. Thanks so much for paving the way! If you are a Lego bug fan, take some time to check out their photostreams!

The praying mantis was one of the first and most iconic bugs we wanted to include in our creation for the MOCathalon. Deriving inspiration from people like Dr. Mobius, and others we had lots of fun creating this beautiful bug in bricks.
