It is with great sadness, I see that Steve-h has posted a farewell photo and message. Steve is a long-time Flickr member, joining in 2006, a year before me. Steve's many followers will miss his presence here on Flickr and his photo postings captured with a great love of life and beauty.
Thank you for sharing all your lovely photos Steve, and those you shared with us from your hospital bed, and visits home again, during your courageous battle with cancer.
Thank you for your friendship over the years. You will be greatly missed by many. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. xx
Steve's photos:
I just met Steve yesterday when he came in to have a mass on his ankle biopsied. He's 18 and every single technician who met him developed an instant crush. It was impossible to walk by his cage without stopping to chat briefly and rub his cheeks.
I took this picture of him first thing yesterday morning when he was checking in and was still in his soft-sided carrier. When I unzipped the side opening the whole thing just sort of flattened on top of Steve and I sort of fell in love when I saw that sweet face.

STEVE is the acronym for "Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement". The optical phenomenon is not an actual aurora, but is often seen during an auroral display. As it did on the night of September 18, 2023. They stretch from east to west, and are generally seen on the southern side of the zenith, away from the aurora to the north. The colors here are exaggerated from what was actually seen.
This image was taken shortly after the arcs first appeared.
