This is a 2009 or later Workhorse W62 step-van, I photographed this truck at some sort of crime scene in Mountain View a couple years ago. I edited out some reflection from phone/electrical cables in this photo of the van.

I built something!
Two years ago I was asked (as usual) if I have a SWAT van that could be used in a potential Arkham set. I didn’t have one then (or did I?) but 30 minutes later I did.
Back then I figured that if it won’t be used, then I can always sneak it into something else as a taco truck or a TV van, whatever, but it went thru.
The build is pretty straightforward except for the front, that utilizes an odd combo of plates and brackets built in every direction on a footprint of a 2x2 brick to create the distinctive Chevy Stepvan headlight assemblies with it’s eyebrow turnsignals. No doors, as these things usually drive open, and since the doors are of sliding type, I don’t think it’s feasible in this scale.
As usual, I built it in different colors, and different lenghts, but the final product is pretty close to my initial sketch.
This is also the set where I was allowed to wish for an element for the first time ever in my career here at LEGO, and I went for a tyre that I needed for years now.
It’s a real gamechanger for me, and you’ll find that tyre from September 12th in the 76300 Arkham set.
I photographed this one of a kind old truck in Bend, OR. People familiar with DIVCO trucks (which stands for Detroit Industrial Vehicles Company) know that they are most famous for this iconic rounded line step van delivery truck which was introduced to the market in 1937. These delivery trucks were produced virtually unchanged until 1986 when the company went bankrupt and dissolved after having been sold to several different owners since the late 1960's. DIVCO vans were often used by dairy producers and had a 4 cylinder Continental engine with folding side doors. This is the only one that I have ever seen attached to a refuse truck body. Trash collecting trucks are normally built on larger Class 8 type chassis but this one is really short overall so maybe that's why it was built on a DIVCO. Perhaps it was used by some local public works dept, I'm not sure.

The whole idea to build the vehicle came to me when I realised that the gap between the upper and lower edges on a 1x2x3 panel matches the length of a 1x3 brick. This lead to the idea for a sliding door and subsequently to the step van.
Unfortunately I've already used all the LEGO 'popsicle' pieces I have in other MOCs currently in storage, but at least I had a large enough number of tiles with icecream designs printed on them to give the vehicle the right look.

This mural covers one part of the wall of the Hall Ambulance headquarters in Bakersfield. This would be a mid 1970's 1st generation Dodge B-Series van ambulance.
FedEx Utilimaster Reach composite-bodied stepvan on Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles. Based on an Isuzu chassis, the Reach achieves fuel savings through generous weight savings over traditional metal bodied vans.
