This time the main object is the stem.

haha~~

Made with Processing, Lee Byron's Mesh library and ProXML library.

This little program looks for photos on flickr by a given search word. Afterwards, the colors of the photos are analyzed. The color itself gets detected and how often each color is found. This data is the foundation of every stem. Each segment represents one color of the photo, the diameter shows the quantity. The cell resolution in all segments is based on the brightness of the color.

Another result of my apparently endless obsession with glass and light.... Two things that interested me here are (i) the gradient in the light being transmitted through the stem, and (ii) the banding produced by fairly subtle depth variations in the foot of the glass.

Lighting: single diffused halogen from camera left.

The F5 Titan Stem is an evolution in traditional quill stem design. We’ve always wanted a stem that could accommodate 31.8mm handlebars without having to use an adapter and still look classic enough that it would compliment any 1″ threaded headset bike.

It’s incredibly light and will finally allow you to choose from the wide world of handlebar possibilities. Made from 7075 aluminium, the removable faceplate is held in place with two stainless steel screws and subtly finished with our Circle F5 logo laser-etched in the center. 150mm total height, 100mm above the minimum insertion lattice enrgraved pattern and a 90mm extension.

We’ve high polished the stem and it is deep anodized in silver to give the traditional quill stem look. It delivers performance and style, which for a component with so much attention, delivers exactly the right level of satisfaction.

Late Friday night, 40 high school girls arrived at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for a STEM-themed sleepover, ready to learn about careers in Science, technology, engineering and math. The educational event offered young women a chance to meet working female scientists and to discover opportunities for women in STEM-related professions.

The teens kicked off the third annual STEM Girls Night In with an astronaut Q&A, talks from female scientists across disciplines and a collection of hands-on activities. The night culminated in a three-hour Mars rover competition and concluded with a late-night showing of “Hidden Figures.”

Cécile Brünner, the rose, is just about done for this season. Two days of high winds are forecast and they'll probably finish her off. Maybe then she'll get pruned. There's always something going on with Cécile. She's housed the wren's nest, is part of the cottage's windbreak, and climbs up and over the shade house where, despite the "monster who ate everything" frost, she kept the houseplants safe. While she was at it, three ginkgo seedlings arrived in the mail the other day and are in there too, recovering, getting used to their new home ahead of them heading off into the "wild wood" next year.

I picked the last few buds of Cécile on their skinny little stems. They don't make the best cut flowers. But they are pretty enough for a dressing table or vanity for a day or two; then this…

Fortuitously, this little vase and it's posey are roughly the size of the wren's nest, so I know the formula: 42 turns of the focussing rail, front to back. toddkeith533 favoured the notion of a small aperture for close-up photography over stacking. So, taking his advice to enhance my inherent "efficiency", or laziness, I've stopped down to f/11 and reduced the process to just seven exposures — hybridisation, if you like. While I was at it, I turned off the overhead lighting and swapped out the flash I used on the wren's nest for the less powerful 430 EXII. The results? No exposure compensation numbers were harmed, and computer time was far, far less than for however many photos I used at f/4.

What it all amounts to is a pretty little pink thing to insert among the green doom and gloom of a frozen landscape. Even wilted and drying roses are better than that!

The cells of the single layered epidermis have thickened outer walls and are overlaid with a well-developed cuticle. Numerous stomata are regularly spaced over the epidermal surface.

A narrow outer cortex of several layers of densely packed photosynthetic parenchyma cells is bound on its inner and outer edges by small radially arranged bundles of thick walled sclerenchyma cells.

The large inner cortex consists of a net like aerenchyma, interspaced with large radially arranged air pockets.

Well developed vascular bundles are found at the intersections the aerenchym strands. Because of this arrangement a central vascular stele is absent.

Within each vascular bundle proto and metaxylem are arranged in a V shape with phloem situated in between and above the metaxylem. A protoxylem lacunae is usually formed. The closed vascular bundles are wrapped in a bundle sheath of thick walled sclerenchyma cells. Vascular cambium is absent preventing the formation of secondary tissues.

MTA New York City Transit President Richard Davey and Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow surprise 7th grade students Alan, Chris, Criss, and Sinthia with a visit to Liberty Avenue Middle School on Thursday, Jan 12, 2023. The students, under the guidance of teacher Jessica Abrams, are state finalists in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition with their design of a push-button method for summoning police or mental health assistance in the subway.

This image is a photomicrograph of an epidermal peel of the surface of a young stem. On the stems the stomata (gas exchange pores) are more or less confined to the grooves. This is an adaptation which helps to reduce water loss through evapotranspiration. There are fine hairs on the ridges, which may reduce airflow over the stem surface.

In this image the largest stomata are approximately 20 µm wide and 28 µm long.

No date yet but we are really excited about this one. 3T as a company are leaders in modern bike integration. Taking their inspiration from F1 racing where all components are made to work together and seamlessly integrate.

For updates on price and availability see here

The 3T Integra stem has an optional (included with stem) face plate that can accommodate a Garmin GPS cycling computer and keep everything looking neat and slick. And there’s no weight penalty for looking good. The full carbon stem and weighs in at just 135g and works just as well if you’re not using the computer module. Surprisingly, 3T says you can even use it on cyclocross and mountain bikes.
