This mountain is a magnet. It spellbounds you the moment you have your first look and then you just cant stare away.

The valleys of Gilgit Baltistan kinda orbit around this mighty icon. Fairy meadows, Tarashing (Astore), Sheosar lake (Deosai, Skardu) and many other famous viewpoints render amazing unique perspectives of this sexy mountain.

EXPLORED!!

we spent the day trampling around old wild west ghost towns in sodak.

this is the first of many freaking stellar shots that we took today....stay tuned.

xoxo

do you ever go through slumps? i'm so slumpering right now.

picking up the camera and taking photos has slipped so far back on my Want To Do list. i can't sort out if it's because we're so damn busy with several large Life Things at the moment or if it's just one of those times where photography sort of naturally takes it's turn on the back burner.

i always carry my camera with me - that's still the case. but i just don't take it out as much these days. even when i see something i know could become a stellar shot. i got a macro lens about a month ago and have shamefully hardly utilized it. and taking self portraits? dear god, that sounds just full of allllll sorts of hassle and the antithesis of fun. i'd honestly rather take pictures of clouds day after day than pictures of myself. where, oh where, has my vanity gone? ;)

i suppose i can partially chalk up my lack of interest to having a parent in the hospital for several weeks and subsequent recovery, house hunting and all the stress that brings, and the fact that i'm going to have a baby in 3 months time (eeeek!!!).

but still. i miss it dammit. and this place, too. i love it when the stars align and everything you shoot looks and feels great and you can't want to get on here and post and comment and just enjoy.

i'm sure it will all return soon enough. ebbs and flows and all that jazz.

i really, really love Explosions In The Sky. there are three great songs by them in Musically Challenged this week, including this one: Your Hand In Mine

(which is a perfect accompaniment to the above image, i've decided)

Evening is already here and I am missing perspectives terribly. Well I should not be too hard on my self. This place is plain and simple. And as long as I am working hard for panoramas, no matter how hard I try, the results are all going to be same.

Sometimes you need to re learn a lesson again and again, and again to actually really learn it for the last and final time :D

I'd like to thank @mobileartistry, and all the administrators: @momma2maxh, @wolfeaugen and particularly Will @computerjones who reached out to me for this opportunity. I am thrilled to be here and have found this tag and group of artists truly inspiring. I am particularly drawn to self-portraits because it offers me the chance to explore my sense of self in relation to the world and others in a unique way. Some images are pictures I see in my head and then try and capture, and some images evolve over time and the editing process. Below is my process for this image:

I first took the image of my eye in native iphone5 camera, and the image of the trees in camera+. The image of my eye was cropped in snapseed and then edited in noir. The image of the trees was edited in camera+--I first cropped and then applied the "ansel" effect and toned it down a tad. Then I brought both images to blender and used the arrange and mask functions until I was satisfied. The blend mode was luminosity plus darker. Next I brought the new image to scratchcam and played around with scratches and textures. I then took the image back to blender to add some small flowers to my lower eyelid (just felt it needed something...). Then that image went back to noir for some light adjustments, and then finally I finished in snapseed with a little tuning and adjusting the white balance to -45 for the blueish tone. So.....that's it. I hope you like it!

Red River Viaduct on CSX's EK sub in Kentucky. The photographers with drones ended up with some stellar shots at this location due to being able to remotely access the sunny side of the bridge. I had to settle with alternative composition and level adjustments in PS.

This weekend we travelled to Jubail, SaudiArabia. We just had one full day to see it all. Never sufficient huh

The weather was excellent. Chill sea breeze pushing everything in its way, waves gaining aggression gradually, clear sky, yachts sailing, boats cruising, and a sea not allowed for swim :-D

The stunning clarity you get at night from very high altitude is an astronomers dream. Here you can clearly see the constellation Orion rising over Lake Tioga at an altitude of 6,636 feet above sea level. At this altitude, the air is thin and crisp and makes for some stunning night photography. We were assisted by a nearly full moon that elegantly illuminated the peaks and forest of the High Sierra. A walk down to the lake can be breathtaking, literally as the air is much thinner. Lake Tioga lies just outside the Eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park. It's distance from the valley makes it somewhat less traveled and even more of a thrill for tourist who make the extra effort. It's truly one of the gems of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

You can clearly see the star Betelgeuse, bright yellow star on the left which is a Red Supergiant star and one of the most luminous stars in the sky. It outshines the second brightest star in the constellation Rigel, the star on the opposite corner that makes up the constellation. The clouds were so thin, wispy and moving at a good clip that the long exposure allowed the constellations to show though. I found this effect to be quite exciting as it allows you to see both the constellations and the brightly moonlit clouds at the same time.

I made the late night trip with fell Flickr photographers Matt Granz and Miguel (aka Amigo). As we drove past it was clear we would have to stop. We spent over an hour photographing the lake before moving on to Mono Lake and more stellar shots from the High Desert. The trip was mainly to photograph some of the Fall Color that dots the Eastern Sierra and we would not be disappointed. So stay tuned as there will be many more equally great shots to come.

Regards,

Darv

Tonight's submission is from Federica, aka @lubaluft, let's hear about her process.

First I want to thank Will & mobileartistry for the feature, I'm really honored!

The pic 'Songs of innocence' is composed by 3 layers. The pic of the stairs of the old mansion is the main shot.

Here the process:

I shot this pic with 6x6 App for iPhone to get squared photo.

1) Opened original shot with Noir to peel away the color to black&white and light up the main stair.

2) Opened edited photo with Superimpose as background image and pics of birds and children next as foreground images.

Used masks and inside tools to resize/scale/position and adjust colors/saturation/hue of the foreground images.

3) Used LensLight (Light leak 8) for red lighting effect near the right door.

4) Used Elasticam for melty effect on right stairs.

5) Opened edited image with Distressed, used filter Sentiment.

6) Opened image with Scratchcam for the texture and vintage effect (I used one of my preset, take your time if you want crafting your personal grunge effect)

7) Last opened the final image with Snapseed used Tune Image to calibrate

brightness/ambience and saturation

That's all, hope you enjoyed it!

Used the artist brush to make something from this less than stellar shot. Clean GEVO was worthy of trying.

After Chris Guss posted his stellar shot of warbonnets leading a train through Holliday I was curious if I could get a similar shot with the drone today.

The answer is yes, but I will be much better in about 6 weeks with some vegetation on the trees and a slightly higher sun angle.

The downside is the pole line is gone, and the trees between M1 up high and the other mains down below are tall now along with the ones along Holliday Drive.

GEVO led coal train coming off the big curve at Lenape on a fine spring morning back on April 16, 2023. Got shined just a little bit on the step well but otherwise not bad for a less than stellar shot of a piss brick GE.

My first stellar shot using the Peleng (Belomo 8mm 100% manual).

Focused on the Milky Way, exactly showing Vega, Altair and the June Scutids.

See the Cadí at the background of the image.

Please, try to see the womans face at the top of the Milky Way :)

This photo was difficult. I had thought I'd captured a dozen or more stellar shots to choose from, when in fact most or all of them were massively flawed. Even the editing proved difficult.

Perhaps I'll like it more when I look back on it in a few months.

Inside a forest dream / the white dove / holds her truth #micropoetry

I’m so grateful and honored to be featured by @mobileartistry and I’d like to thank the administrators for facilitating this tag and especially Will @computerjones for his support. I’ve learned so much from all the featured artists here and truly appreciate how everyone shares their techniques.

I’ve always been obsessed with light, shadow, and anything macabre. Most of my editing is done later at night, in bed, lights off, and when I should be asleep. Most times, words come to mind while I’m editing a photo and I include them as micropoetry. It takes me forever to get anywhere as my car stops continually on country roads, during overcast days or at sundown.

I use my Iphone 4 (almost) exclusively. My favourite apps are Snapseed, LensLight, Noir, DistressedFX, ScratchCam, and Hipstamatic, including its SwankoLab. Through MobileArtistry, I’ve just discovered TapFX and I’ve used it on my feature photo. Hope it’s enjoyable. Here’s the process:

Hipstamatic: Background with James lens and C-Type Plate film (using the mirror to view and snap)

TapFX: Added doves and smoke. Starting with small doves inside the mouth, then gradually increasing the size to make them appear closer to the viewer.

Camera +: Square cropping and applied the ‘pinhole’ FX

PaintFX: applied lip colour and painted ‘contrast’ over the entire thing

TapFX (again): small points of light on doves and ended with the Vintage filter

This little town off I-15 turned out to be a hotbed of high quality neon art. This was my first time up this road; I sort of doubt it will be my last!

The mirrorless Sony A7R? Most of the time it delivers stellar shots like this--but when it goes bad, it goes straight to "I gave you a focus lock and I am not really in focus on anything on this planet, sucka" hell.

Maybe version two? As it stands, the Canon 5D3 still gets the nod for high ISO work and for focusing reliably, especially when the subject is a moving target.

There is just no way contrast detect AF can keep up with phase detect AF, not yet, anyway.

Tonight's submission is from Saverio, aka @non_ho_paura, lets hear about his process.

My process for creating images doesn't begin in an orthodox way. It actually starts far away from my iPhone and evolved from life long hobbies. I'm an old soul, so antique shows, thrift stores and junk stops are the first step for me.

This is where I search for (and collect) cabinet card photos, vintage portraits, vintage actress/actor photos, etc. I like to think I'm giving them another chance.

After scanning the photo I'm going to use onto my computer, I feel like I'm no longer in control, because my art rarely turns out how I initially imagine it.

In a sense, I let the photo tell me how it's going to turn out. I'm a dreamer, so I start to wonder about these people and their lives, what they were like, their families and so on. I guess the mood takes over my subconscious.

I really don't ever follow a structure when creating art, so it's hard to define what exactly it is I do from this point on. I will say that I use the following apps, almost exclusively:

#ImageBlender, #Snapseed, #PicFx and #Afterglow.

I am ALWAYS taking photos, anything that catches my eye, anything that is interesting to me. Some of it gets used for stock photos of texture or "supporting" layers/backgrounds, and some of them I save for my own photo library. I also still use film, as I am an analog lover as well.

It thrills me that I'm able to create something different with the marriage of analog and digital that other people care to look at. If someone is able to make a connection with what I do, then that's just an added bonus for me.

The first lines of a poem called "Ode" (1874), were used in a movie I watched as a kid and it stuck with me the first time I ever heard it because it's true.

"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams..."

Humpback whale that is....not a stellar shot by any means, but it was very exciting for us to see this humpback whale along with many other species of marine wildlife on our day cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park.

Have a great Thursday, and as always, thanks for all your visits and comments!!!!!

Saudi seas are usually quiet. I have been to Dammam, Khobar, Dhaharan, Umluj, they were all too peaceful. Al-Nakheel beach of Damam has been an exception for me.

May be due to the overcast conditions and the slightly strong winds, the Sea was making noise. I finally saw a Saudi sea with waves in years :D

Looking back at the height

==========================

Location: Naltar 3, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan

----------------------------------------------

We are descending from the high rising Naltar 3rd lake. Reaching this lake and looking at it is an adventure. My steadiness on the stupid idea of climbing a rock in the wilderness made it the adventure of a lifetime.

The hike to the lake is short but high. Coming down the hill was way easy and fun and fast lol. The air was very fresh indeed. When I climbed the rock (imagined in another post), it was wilderness at another level. The atmosphere was so unbelievably fresh, I could smell nature, raw, very :D

These red shrubs are for real. I do not apply software filters on my pictures. Just slightly improve them on lightroom. In future I will be using Nisi filters for long exposure in sun light.

Tonight's submission is from Mink, aka @minkwilliams, let's hear about his process.

I went on a walk Saturday to take a bunch of photos with a fine iger ( @nicdesjardins ) who I met at our local instameet in the fall. Here's one of the best.

To start I shot this with pro camera in 1:1 format with the level on, I manually exposed it so that the trees on the other side of the lake would be visible.

I cropped it in Squareready Pro with the idea that the horizon with trees would be in my rule of thirds cross hairs and the snow covered yellow line would match the bottom right corner.

Into Snapseed for some brightness and color adjustment. I turned the details up to 40, sharpening to 15 so as not to lose the elements when I filtered it.

Into afterglow where I applied the chestnut or other red/brownish filter. Into Vscocam where I applied fade likely level 2 or 3.

I applied one of the free #ndpatterns available from @nealdieker using Imageblender on screen mode. I took the filtered image into Juxtaposer and layered it under the one with the pattern and erased all the areas that were not concrete.

For the orb in the background I used a free #mexture from @merekdavis : I brought it into afterglow and applied the circle frame to it. I brought the filtered/pattern image into Imageblender with the circle framed mexture image and used multiply mode to hide the white part of the orb. I arranged and shrunk it to line up with the horizon and trees. I saved that and brought it into Juxtaposer and erased along the tree line at a very close zoom so that the orb / sun appeared to be lurking behind the trees. I put in the text using the app Over. Thank you for your attention @minkwilliams

This was a test! I was mucking about in the garden and the sky was nice and clear and I had read that this WA Lens makes lovely multi pointed sun flares so I tried it! By golly! "They" are right! Not a stellar shot( well, technically, I guess it IS stellar!") but it DOES show the nice flare. I almost went blind trying to focus. Maybe Auto Focus next time?? Any pointers???

Ana, Tabatha, YOU are our final two remaining girls in the competition! You're both now officially the two strongest and fiercest girls of the entire contest but we all know that only one of you can win and claim the title of 'Bratz Next Top Model' In order to do so, you truly need to blow me and the judges out of the water with your 3 finale photos - each testing you on something entirely different. Aswell as both of you girls' past work, these 3 finale photos could very well decide on who is crowned the winner so there is a lot at stake and resting on delivering stellar shots. Bring your absolute all - you're almost at the finish line!

For your very last theme in the competition, you will be posing with masks! Masks can be used as incredibly accessories and add mystery to any outfit or style. This theme is all about showing mystery and intrigue whilst showing sophistication and poise. This is your last theme ever in this competition so make sure its something to be proud of!

REQUIREMENTS:

1. You must be posing with a mask.

2. How you wear the mask is entirely up to you. You can hold it, wear it on your head, on your eyes or maybe something entirely different.

3. For your garment, it can literally be anything that has a sophisticated vibe - a little black dress would be a good choice.

4. Your photo must be in black and white.

5. Edgy makeup!

6. Your photo has to have a sense of mystery, use your mask as a way of doing this.

7. For your setting, try making it quite vintage and antique-esque. Think regal and country-style manor.

8. It can be either a closeup, mid-shot or long-shot.

The deadline for all of your finale photos is now:

Thursday, 12th September 2013

Please make sure you get all of your photos in ON TIME!

If you have any queries or questions regarding the finale themes, please feel free to FM me! :)

Ana, Tabatha - good luck to both of you!

Now for your second finale theme, you girls are going to be posing for your POLLY. Covers! This is MAJOR as the winner of Bratz Next Top Model Cycle 2 will have her cover printed as the Summer edition of the magazine. Its important that this photo is one of the very best you deliver within the competition.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. For your cover, you are having total freedom in terms of how you want to be styled, dressed and posed aswell as the setting. Remember though, this is the SUMMER edition of POLLY. so you need something vibrant and something with a Summery feel.

2. The cover MUST be either mid-shot or close-up.

3. Do not edit any text onto your cover whatsoever, I will add the text later on.

4. You must not have any other dolls in the photo with you.

5. When you have uploaded your photo, please set it on private and tag me in it as I don't want the covers to be revealed to the public until the crowning of the winner.

6. You can be posing either inside or outside but remember that it has to have a distinctive Summer feel to it.

7. Eye contact is not necessary but make sure to look fierce and smize!

The city of Wisconsin Dells is just starting to come to life for the day with employees headed to staff the tourist attractions and families grabbing breakfast or talking a stroll on the river walk. Meanwhile, a loaded oil trail rumbles through town at track speed with NS 1068 in the lead.

While this far from a stellar shot, news of the Erie Heritage unit leading a 581 on the CP made me decide to make the jaunt over to the Dells to at least see the thing. This time of the day there are few options for a well lit photo of a westbound in this neck of the world, but the river bridge offered a mostly broadside shot.

Just concluded our zuhr prayers and we are looking out from the masjid gate, at the tradtional houses. Built sometimes solely by the family man, this is heritage, culture, this worths a lot.

At Babusar top, we in fact came through a villager building one. For no reason I did not film him , other wise it would have been an interesting interview :D

Another less-than-stellar shot I decided to push around in post. Not sure why, but I had the idea to try and make Killimanjara Safari look more dreary and sinister so I went a little overboard in Lightroom.

It's fun to do every once in a while, especially if you're not terribly serious about your Disney shots.

I started with a custom white balance, then bumped up the contrast while dropping the highlights to a whopping -100. Shadows went up a little, white whites where reduced and blacks pushed up.

I took the clarity down, which has to be my new favorite thing to do. Normally losing clarity would drive me crazy, but I like what the haze introduces into shots (especially with fireworks).

I kicked the vibrance up a bit, just enough to get some clown barf colors to come through as I thought it looked interested on a darker exposure.

Then a little noise reduction and vignetting and I was left with BizzaroManjaro Safaris.

What do you think? Have any shots you've pushed your processing over the top that you care the share?

Thanks for looking

Hi ladies and welcome to your fifth elimination. This week you had to work with shadows and angles. It is crusal for a model to know her best angles. As you know 2 of you will be going home. You know us judges:

Danielle Monroe, model and winner of last cycle

And me, Ana Alvares.

Kyle

Danielle: FINALLY! I’m seeing the model that I knew was in there coming out. The lighter brows look great on you and make you look much more high fashion. I also love that I’m seeing so much more intensity in your eyes and face. My one critique would be that your right arm looks a little bit awkward but other than that, great job!

Ana: I am blown away Kyle! I knew you had it in you. I love the set, I love the shadow you worked with, I LOVE the eyebrows and your eyes finally comes to justice. I am very proud of you this week, keep it up!

Kayla

Danielle: Honestly, this shot is a little safe for me. You look pretty and that’s really it. I think the side glance works to add intensity to your eyes but I’m really not a fan of the edited harsh purple iris. I think if there was more shape or pattern to your shadows it could have brought up the overall look of the photo.

Ana: Last week you suprised all of u sto be honest. This week you fell short. It feels like you rely on your beauty on not doing much to make this photo stand out. The make-up doesn’t work for me, the eyecolor doesn’t fit you much and that makes your face look not as beautiful as it is in real life.

Aqua

Danielle: You look gorgeous in this shot Aqua and I definitely get a tribal feel from this photo. I really like your makeup and styling and it really adds to the whole tribal feel. I do wish your expression wasn’t so soft though. I feel like a harsher expression would have worked really well and put this photo over the top.

Ana: This is very beautiful Aqua. I am obsessed with the styling and the hair. I think this photo stand out of the rest because it has a whole other vibe to it which I really respond to. If I would give some feedback it would be that you look a bit too relaxed in the face, just a bit more intesity in your eyes would have been great.

Césaria

Danielle: Again you deliver a stellar shot. This is amazing, I love everything about it. The shadows, the outfit, the pose, the mysterious ambience; everything just works. I really have nothing bad to say, amazing job!

Ana: Now this is what I am talking about Cesaria! This is scary good! I love how you just bounce back from last week because this is amazing. Everything works, the shadow with the styling and the set. Keep it up and you will be dangerous in this competition.

Charlize

Danielle: This is gorgeous Charlize. I love how effortless and elegant you look and how you decided to go for a profile shot. Your dress is great and I really love how it also picks up the shadows. Great job!

Ana: I love how rebelic this photo is. The styling with the set is working great together. I love what you did with the shadows and the angle of your face is amazing. The only problem for me is that you don’t stand out much compered to the others but other than that, great job!

Kora

Danielle: This is flawless! I absolutely love it. The makeup and hair work perfectly with your face and the dress and it all contrasts so well with the setting. The pose just tops it all off. Amazing job Kora, keep it up!

Ana: I actually have to disagree. You are so much better than this. I think your body look a bit awkward and the angle of your face is not the most flattering. You can do so much better Kora, just look at last weeks photo.

Xuan

I really like the different approach you took; it makes your photo stand. Your face looks gorgeous and I really love your dress. I definitely love the shadows but I think you could have had more of them or at least tried to intensify them. I also think your left arm looks a little stiff but overall, I still really love the shot.

Ana: Finally Xuan, you are back! I think this is very beautiful. I am loving the styling and the make-up. Your face looks so good with the shadows. The photo has a gyspy vibe that I really like. Great job this week!

Liberty

Danielle: I love this Liberty; you really seem to be improving week by week. I love the intensity in your eyes and those eyebrows really take your look to the next level. The harsh shadows also work really well. I do have to critique the dress though as I think it would have looked much more chic if it were just the lace without the colorful material around your waist. Overall though, this is still a great shot

.

Ana: This could be on the cover of Vogue to be honest. This is amazing! You are really improving and stepping up week by week. Your face is to die for, the eyebrows are made by gold. I love how this photo has a bit of movement. I ahve to agree though with Danielle, the styling could have been better but other than that, amazing job!

Hazel

Danielle: I’m really torn about this shot Hazel. The thing I love is how chic and elegant you look and how your face and eyes just pierce through. The thing that brings the shot down for me is the eyebrows. I would have preferred if you just left them natural as they look a bit sloppy and bring down the overall impact of the shot.

Ana: This photo stands out by your egelance of your body. You have a Versace vibe to your styling and the face is glowing. My issue with you Hazel is that you haven’t had that wow moment yet. You need to start stand out more because right now you are a bit forgettible and a girl with your face is not someone you forget.

Cherish and Leilas overall perfomance will be scored but because this is the second time Leila hasn’t submitted a photo her score is sinking drasticly.

Now it’s time to score all your photos and when I call you back I will announce which two girls has been eliminated.

Your next theme will be up soon!

Ok, not a stellar shot, but life is finally back to normal, and I'm sitting in front of my brand new 27"Mac (with i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, 4BG Nvidia graphics card, a 3 TB hard drive, and Airport Extreme backup drive). this one better last me a long time. I've never used Macs before so I'm still getting used to a lot of things, but I'm glad I made the move from PC to Apple.

Looking forward to going over all the photos you've posted over the last few weeks.

Judges Critique:

Melania: Another stellar shot from you, even though I think the body is a little passive, the face is beautiful, I just would've liked to see you do something more dramatic

8/10

Adam: You were the FCO last week, and this week you're kinda fading for me?...I love you're face, but I feel the pose is a little too predictable, I know you'll get back up there again.

7/10

Ivana: You're one of the only girls here, who I feel has the right look and confidence to go far in this competition, just remember, things are going to get harder, and take in you're critique with dignity, because you can definitely learn something.

8/10

Josh: Lux, you're dominating the social media, fans find you interesting and see great potential in you, and I for one like this shot, so keep it up!

Do you like Lux's shot??...add her to you're favorites, to ensure her spot in the competition!!!

Could be in an old film in black and white,

but your hair’s too short and your jeans too tight - Mr Hudson

I love Mr Hudson and his now sort of lost library. I shall be off to london next week to see him :) good times

I like this. So inevitably flickr won’t. Its the 1st time I’ve done a cinematic? crop and I like it. Obviously not going to use it all the time but I think it kind of works and fits the lyrics. Also very little editing on it which was nice, in the sense I wanted to step away a little after a few heavy photoshopped photos. Also it was nice to do an image that I had imagined (although the scenery wasn’t what I originally planned) that wasn’t so complicated. I wanted to do this shot in B&W cause it was the lyrics I was working to, but the colour of those fences is such a beautiful gritty green. Maybe Ill take a shot of them on their on one day.

I was up pretty early today so took this pretty early, thought I might not see anyone but no I was wrong. This entry was far busier than I remember it being. Dog walkers are the bane of my life. And Im like 80% sure my mates friend saw me again. I think it was him anyway. All that said though I really wasn’t bothered that people saw me, all be it I was just setting up and taking test shots, but still I think that’s a little achievement for me.

Also thanks to Patrick Eggert for a really really awesome testimonial. Go look at his work he has some stellar shots as well as film work. He is far more fearless than me, taking photos in supermarkets :p

Lastly +1 in comments. The one in comments looks like I’m in the middle of winter when in actual fact it was really warm and muggy today. And there was a million little flies and hornet things. God they were annoying.

Black

Merlin - female

Falco columbarius

Yesterday at Forsythe NWR* it was raptor central. We saw red-tailed hawks, peregrine falcons, a Cooper's hawk fending off one of the many northern harriers and this beautiful merlin.

We were actually trying to move toward a harrier that was perched on a sign (something I've never seen at Forsythe) when I suddenly shouted 'Stop!' at Shari, my safari guide and driver and pointed at this merlin who was sitting no more than 5m in front of us. It was very compliant and gave us a LOT of great looks.

Sadly, the wind and my own mistakes left me with no stellar shots (check out Shari's for a really nice shot), but it was still a thrill to see this beautiful falcon so close.

*aka "Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge"

A magical night seeing this frisky male, chasing and copulating with a female within five feet above our heads. He mounted her three times in the fifteen minutes while we were there. He was a bit smaller than the hen. I wasn't expecting it and was so in the moment of watching them interact, vocalize and mate rather than getting the stellar shot! So cool to have them nest nearby.

Thanks so much Caroline @caroline2645 for featuring me on @mobileartistry. It's greatly appreciated and encouraging. I took this photo at Valley Forge National Historical Park in Pennsylvania.

Shot with Hipstamatic using Jane lens and D-Type Plate

Apps used:

Photowizard- added texture to the sky with masking brush then applied pottery filter to the entire image.

Afterglow- used texture 17. Adjust highlight tone (blue), sharpened, decrease brightness and saturation.

Superimpose- blended a photo I took of some clouds with the sky portion of the photo.

ScratchCam- added small amount of vertical scratches.

Afterglow- used Whim filter.

The first few days of May were surely strange in terms of clouds. Three straight days of beautiful cloud action made for some stunning sunsets. On day one, I was convinced (more like being lazy) that it would be too cloudy and stayed home. I was wrong. The sky blew up and I ended up photographing the irradiating sky with my iPhone from home. Day two: the clouds looked very promising again and made a snap decision to jet to the coast. I phoned Aaron to come join me as we met up at Natural Bridges State Beach.

At arrival much of the most textured clouds were still to the west but we had over an hour before sunset. I had hoped the clouds would move enough to position themselves over the arch for a stellar shot. Instead, Mother Nature had other plans. The clouds barely moved if at all and stayed primarily in the west. Rooted at Natural Bridges, we tried to make do with what we had. Much to our luck a photogenic driftwood log lay at the western end of the beach. With high tide, the waves would approach and sweep around the log.

Just as I was setting up the sun approached the all-clear horizon and this massive cloud began lighting up in oranges. Here goes the light show. All I had to say was “dang” this was one stunning sunset. Even at my widest angle I could not catch the entire cloud. It stretched for what must’ve been miles and just burned more a long time. It started out as an orange glow before transforming into fiery orange and yellow and lastly ending with soft pink pastels. I ended up liking the burning orange the most and it surely looked as if Santa Cruz was on fire.

*On a side note, I much prefer winter sunsets. Driving down for 8pm sunsets in the thick of rush hour is frustratingly slow.

This guy turned his head into the the light at just the right time as it flew overhead while I was banging away and hoping I was still on it.

Also included is a flight shot of a Pileated Woodpecker taken at Hawrelak Park today and a Bald Eagle at Gold Bar Park taken early in the morning before the light got brighter.

The Pileated flight shot is not a stellar shot, but my best Pileated flight shot so far. I'll keep trying until I get it right.

Another stellar shot from the little camera. Some days you can tell all the way from Vancouver that it's going to be a Classic Shore day. This past Saturday's conditions on Mt. Fromme were wet and muddy, but the atmosphere was worth the dirt in the eyes! The greens were so bright!

Used an SB600 at 1//4 power laying on the drivers seat for interior elimination

22" beauty dish powered by an SB900 at 1/2 power camera right

Shot at I think a 1/10 of a second to be able to grab the ambient light from the background. No tripod was used, I love the VR in the Nikon 16-35mm it never lets me down.

The battery in my radio triggers died before we started this shoot so I had to depend on The CTL system on my Nikon D90. I haven't used it in a year and almost forgot how to set it up on the fly. I had a challenge getting the flashes to pop, but I just changed up my approach and still managed to get some stellar shots.

First time modeling my breakdancing for a friend. Its really odd being in front of the camera then being behind it. It was an awesome photo shoot, and we got some stellar shots. Its really awesome when two photographers work together. Thanks Jerry Tam for the shots. Photos were edited by me.

I was looking for a Barred Owl at a local high school near my work but came up short. I then walked the area to search a bit more and stumbled upon this lovely owl. What a nice consolation prize for dipped on the barred! This one was very dark in its markings and just gorgeous. Very tough conditions to get a stellar shot but I was very happy to find one in a new, unexpected location!

The haar is really evident here closer to the coast as the 56 approaches the passing loop and token change with the Middlesbrough Goods - Boulby empties. The chase from Carlin How was tighter than I expected and I had to get the wife to park the car on the roundabout much to her great chagrin in order to leap out and get this admittedly less than stellar shot.

Larger & foggier

I'd never shot a Holga in the fog. It really didn't handle the extra atmosphere as cleanly as I'd hoped. The idea was to do a comparison between film and digital despite it being an apples to oranges mashup. I've attempted this before, but always managed to bugur it up somehow. No, it's not the most stellar shot, but I do like the character. Here is a link to the digital version.

Tonight's submission is from Kit, aka @kitkite, let's hear about her process.

I want to thank @mobileartistry for the opportunity to be featured, and for anyone that takes an interest in my images- I truly appreciate and I'm honored by it.

My creative process has been one that, quite recently, has evolved and simultaneously been defined by the question “what is home” and the ideas and objects that make up the physical landscape in which we live in. I have found myself consistently drawn to average household shapes and forms, and what could be viewed as domestic materials and or the common parts and tools of “household” living, as a vehicle to express my idea. The series of photos entitled “The X Housewife Portraits” and the subtitles were first derived from a concept of short stories I had written called “The Suburban Screen.” But unlike the overplayed stereotypes of droning suburbia, with it’s unsatisfied life of the culture-less, status ego consumer, I chose to explore and depict the fixed objects as the discontented personalities rather than the people. As a result, I depicting myself as the prop and the objects as the posing figure in the setting of a self portrait study and series. This idea stemmed from my own personal struggle in how now to relate to and what feels like my own disconnect from what I once was, and how I now relate to my physical surroundings.

As for the photo’s process- all my images are shot on the iphone and bounce between the filters found on the Frametastic app and IG’s. I work the photo until I find the effect Im looking for and then post the sucker....it’s a pretty simple process that I really have grown to enjoy and look forward to creating each time i do so.
