Stele - Schloss Dyck

On this stele is written the story of the mayor Lecointre who lived and died on March, 24th 1902 in this house, mayor of Alençon from 1868 to 1871 and during the war against Prussia.

It is said that, before a prussian officer, M. Lecointre said (more or less) those words about the future war looting of the city of Alençon :

"Here are the keys of my house ! Begin with me : Strengh primes against law !", on the 15th February 1871.

Thanks to him, Alençon paid no war looting to Prussia during the occupation.

A first stele has been broken the 30 juny 1940. This one replaces it since August, 12th 1955.

A stele in the gardens of Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge. It could be quite old as the collector of this piece, Lord Fairhaven, acquired his collection in the 1930s at auctions of antique artwork. This androgynous face could belong to a whole range of ancient narratives, from a winner in the Olympic Games of antiquity to a grave stele of a young woman.

rock in the shape of a stele - Vosges mountains - France

The Stele Pavilion, originally built in 1435 and rebuilt in 1787, is located on the Sacred Way at the Ming Tombs some 45 km north-northwest of Beijing, China. It houses a 6 meter high stone stele inscribed in 1425, which is supported by a stone Bixi, a Chinese mythological dragon with the shell of a turtle.

The pavilion lies in the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2000 as "Imperial Tombs of the Ming and Qing Dynasties".

Three steles in a museum. They are relatively high and serve as information boards. I liked the incidence of light and the lines...

Mir reichts! Ich muss was tun! Ich muss raus! Ich will knipsen! Heute wieder mal Schneegestöber. Egal! Also die Sony a7ii, das Zeiss 16-35 f4 und das Zeiss 24-70 f4 in die Tasche und ab ins Auto. Wohin? Eine halbe Stunde bis ins Hohe Venn. Da geht immer was.

Gefunden 1838/48 in Holzgerlingen, Baden-Württemberg. Entstanden 5. Jahhundert v. Chr.

" Landesmuseum Stuttgart

The double-faced celtic sculpture (copy) was found 1838/48, manufactured in the 5th century BC. The head covering is a "leaf-crown". The figure is 2.30 m high. The body is little elaborated, possibly clothes were painted.

Manfred shows a Duke of Celts with a leaf-crown ("Micky Mouse").

The Nungesser and Coli memorial on the Falaise d'Amont on the edge of Étretat on the Alabaster Coast

It commemorates the two pilots Charles Nungesser and François Coli. Their attempt to cross the Atlantic in a biplane (‘L'Oiseau Blanc’, Levasseur PL.8) failed. The ‘L'Oiseau Blanc’ was last seen on 8 May 1927 over the English Channel near Étretat and has been missing ever since. Étretat, Seine-Maritime department Normandy, France 07.09.2013
