This is the steeple of Christ Church, in Philadelphia, arguably the most historic church in the United States. At one time, this was the tallest structure in the colonies. The first black minister, in a major denomination, was ordained here. There is a chandelier, with candles, hanging from the ceiling. It was lit this month for a wedding, and also lit for the wedding of Benjamin Franklin's daughter.
The tour guide said that this church was built around the original building, but that materials from that original building were used to make the steeple, so those materials have been in use since 1695. The newer church (this one) was finished in 1744.
Blacks were baptized and educated at this church, and the first African-American priest was ordained here.

Composed of two photographs. One was the walk, and the other the steeple. Both taken the same day about five minutes apart, but in completely different directions. The montage was easy and looked OK, but it took a long time to try to get the lighting to direct the focus away from the trees to the steeple. Sometimes when the world isn't right I fix it, and this is the result.
Mostly late C15, one of the finest Perpendicular churches in the country. Steeple being blown down in 1670 resulted in some rebuilding. Chancel rebuilt by Clutton 1853. Chancel roof looking west
The steeple (or tower) of Harvard's Memorial Hall, seen from Cambridge Street.
The middle (sloped) building is Gund Hall, the Graduate School of Design, and the nearer one is the Knafel Building, part of the Center for Government and International Studies (CGIS).
Remote, wind-swept Steeple Jason Island is the northwesternmost of the Falkland Islands. Thanks to the absence of cats and rats, birdlife abounds here.
