I just like this stainless steel pillar as a background, especially with raindrops :o)

Rows of giant flywheels line an engine room at the former Bethlehem Steel complex in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Bethlehem Steel was once the second largest producer of steel in the world. Many of the skyscrapers, bridges, ships, armaments, etc. built during the 20th century in the U.S. were constructed of steel produced by Bethlehem Steel. The area once occupied in Bethlehem, PA, by one of the company's many mills has been redeveloped in recent years as a mixed use site to foster the arts, tourism, and business in the city. Many of the original industrial structures have been preserved and remain on site. I recently visited the site while attending the annual Christkindlmarkt that is held there.

Somewhere in Italy near the Mediterranean sea, a piece of history was just left to rot. Located in a giant industrial area, we seek out a remarkable engineering project that is falling apart - with unseen insights and untold stories. This exploration features a 1950s power plant that became outdated and obsolete a while ago. We find old, almost forgotten machines but also new life returning to a place that is hazardous to man. I haven’t bothered photographing the SWML between Cardiff and Newport for several years as a result of its electrification resulting in the erection of numerous ugly gantries to carry the OLE. I was, however, pleasantly surprised to see a recent shot by Richard Gardner that has worked well (www.flickr.com/photos/195019346@N07/).

Inspired by his shot, and the numerous daily workings running from Cardiff, Newport and Portbury carrying steel to Port Talbot for processing (as a consequence of the blast furnaces closing down there in September 2024), I thought I should give it a go. In this scene, Class 66 No. 66084 is seen heading east towards Newport on the 11:20 Cardiff Docks - Margam steel coil train (6B79). The train will run round at Newport ADJ and head back towards Margam.

Our train passes through the interior of a Scunthorpe steel mill, slow shutter used. Taken from the guards van balcony.

Could have done a better job for symmetry at the edges of the image but still fine for the first try.

Saw the late afternoon sun streaking though the windows and hitting our impractical (but cool) fruit basket. I thought the shadow it cast was pretty sweet. Done. Dusted.

Firstly I must apologise to everyone for my absence on Flickr lately. It has been nearly 6 months since my last post

and have been lacking both time and inspiration.

Perhaps I just needed a spell, anyhow I seem to be finding some motivation to get back out. I must thank Steve for constantly trying to get me out shooting again, and we both went to Southport after work last week. Had a great time, salt air, clouds, Gold Coast, doesn't get much better!!

A very crazy reincarnation of the old 1991 Mean Streak wooden coaster, Steel Vengeance uses the same superstructure as it's older kin, but takes FULL advantage of the possibilities such a huge support structure allows. Oh, and having steel rails as opposed to the stacked wood with metal strips (typical wooden coaster tracks) makes a huge difference too.

This is one of the more dangerous light painting adventures that I've been on but it was certainly worth it.

I scooted my way across the beam on the right to get out to the center beam. Stood up on the probably 6 inch wide beam in the center and spun some wool. Scooted back on the left beam, switched my aperture to f/3.5 and then painted the beams by firing three different colored flashes at different angles.

This is underneath the train trestle out at Bisset Park where this photo was taken.

I was venturing around here during the day with some friends a couple weeks ago and we found that you could get up underneath the trestle. I knew that I needed to come back for some LP here and that's just what I've done.
