Steamboat Geyser in the Norris Geyser Basin of Yellowstone NP.

Steamboat is currently the world's highest active geyser with major eruptions reaching above 100 m in height. However, major eruptions are very unpredictable. In the quiet phases, several years may pass without an eruption. Since 2018, the geyser is in an active phase, with dozens of eruptions every year. We were not lucky to see one, of course. But there was one within a week, both before and after. And we may have witnessed a minor one from a distance (which means, we saw a lot of steam, way way more than you see here).

This is the largest geyser in Yellowstone.

The devastation there from when this geyser blows is amazing to see. Seems to be spread across the size of several football fields.

While travellers and visitors of the "Disney 100" event enjoying themselves, a train travels along on the railway line above of „Steamboat Willie“ next to the iconic waterfall!

This was just amazing to see ... do not want to spend too much time next to the thermal blast here ... the acidic chemicals certainly impact the plants and trees.

It was also fun catching this spot with the rainbow when the sun popped out near sunset.

To me this is so cool having spent so much time on and around that butte to see it from another one and take it all in, it truly is magnificent. If I can figure out how to do it I'll mark the spot of the previous post on there, so cool!

check out the ground, it's like camo for rattlesnakes, I've never walked so slowly on level ground before. :-)

A volcanic fumarole, aided by a stiff west breeze, poured forth its heated vapors over the highway along the east shore of Yellowstone Lake. I was intrigued by the turbulence pattern created by the local geography and snapped this picture just as a Jeep carrying visitors to Yellowstone National Park rounded the bend.

This was a magic moment for me when I looked behind me and realized that I could see Steamboat Rock and Banks Lake once I cleared the trees. This was first glance and it couldn't have been laid out any better for me. :-)

This was taken along 'Old Wagon Trail Road', an easy hike with an elevation gain similar to Steamboat, but with no scrambling. the top of this butte would be a great place for stars (Chance!!)

While the paddle steamer 'New Southern Belle' took on passengers I took the opportunity to photograph a reflection of a section of it.

My husband and I were taking a ride through some of the local county roads in Steamboat Springs to try and get off of the main grid. I love old barns. I thought this was pretty.

A volonteer association named "Mjörns Ångbåtsförening" owns and runs the more than 100 year old steamboat Herbert, used for both charter and public traffic on the stream Säveån and the lake Mjörn.
