Saturday Self Challenge
Our next challenge is:
Water Droplets
Take a photo of water droplets in any form, shoot macro or otherwise. Post-process as much as you like. Get creative and have fun!
This was one of those ideas that turned out to be much easier to think up than it was to execute. I decided against raindrops, mainly because as soon as the challenge was listed the rain vanished.
The background is a plastic ‘staywet’ pallette for acrylic paint. To it I added a few blobs of red, blue, green and yellow paint. Then I dropped on some water. Bad idea, no droplets just a flood of water and coloured paint running everywhere.
After a bit of thinking plan B was implemented. I cleaned up the mess and decided that the droplets might form better if some oil was involved. I couldn’t use olive or sunflower oil because of its colour, the only other option I had was lavender oil, well the set up would smell nice even if it didn’t work !!
I tipped a small amount of the oil onto the pallette before putting the paint back, then added a few drops of water. The result was a little better but still not great, so I used a fine paintbrush to tease small amounts of the paint into the water, and just like magic the coloured water droplets started to take shape on top of the oil. There was a slight flood, too much water I expect, but I managed to get a few shots before the whole thing turned into a brown slushy lavender smelling mess.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.
The 2015 Waterfight NYC drew so much attention in the news media and social media that it was threatened to be shut down by Central Park officials. They tried but to no avail. It went on as planned with most participants not realizing there were some behind the scenes drama.
Three park rangers showed up asking who was in charge of the Waterfight and cited the NYC law that you need a permit to have more than 20 people doing the same activity. No one came forward. The one on the left was a real meanie and started stomping on people's water balloons without their consent. I'm pretty sure he made a girl cry. The rangers said no one was allowed to use balloons and should destroy them. For the most part they let everyone keep fighting with water guns but I felt a displeasure and tension since they arrived. It never fails at any type of battle. If you draw attention to yourself like wearing a costume, you will most likely become a natural target. Taken at the 2013 Annual Waterfight NYC in Central Park.rk.
Especially in a water fight involving thousands of people, you gots to protect the good hair. Taken at the 2015 Waterfight NYC in Central Park.
Another day, another battle. Taken at the 2015 Waterfight NYC in Central Park. Park officials tried to put a stop to the event this year by trying to squelch it on social media and then by a half-hearted effort in the beginning with the undermanned park cops. By the middle of the event, most of the ten thousand or so participants were blissfully unaware of the drama at the start and kept the soaking going until well past 6PM.

A park ranger tried to enlist this good looking couple to entice the participants to move down field. It didn't work. Taken at the 2013 Annual Waterfight NYC in Central Park.
Water balloons were only used sparingly at the 2013 Annual Waterfight NYC in Central Park. Some park rangers showed up and prevented their use. Presumably because they leave a mess that no one cleans up.

Water balloons were used sparingly and on the sneak. There were some park rangers telling people not to use them as no one was going to clean up after the litter. Taken at the 2013 Annual Waterfight NYC in Central Park.
Taken at the 2015 Waterfight NYC at Central Park. I was wondering where some of the more interesting waterguns were bought as they were not name brand. True to NY style, they came from local bodegas.
