White-backed Vulture Gyps africanus

This vulture is rarer than previously believed. Its conservation status was reassessed from Least Concern to Near Threatened in the 2007 IUCN Red List. In 2012 it was further uplisted to Endangered. In October 2015, its status was changed to Critically Endangered because the ongoing decline is more severe than previously thought.

The category Critically Endangered is at the sharp end of conservation, just one step away from extinction!

The Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33 ) is a dark nebula in the constellation Orion. The nebula is located just to the south of the star Alnitak, which is farthest east on Orion's Belt, and is part of the much larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex. The nebula was first recorded in 1888 by Scottish astronomer Williamina Fleming on photographic plate B2312 taken at the Harvard College Observatory. The Horsehead Nebula is approximately 1500 light years from Earth. It is one of the most identifiable nebulae because of the shape of its swirling cloud of dark dust and gases, which bears some resemblance to a horse's head when viewed from Earth. - (Wikipedia)

Hunting with falcons was an important part of the history of the Arab Bedouins for a period of 10,000 years. Falconry is a Bedouin tradition and Arabic culture, today more as a hobby and for sporting purposes. The falcons enjoy a special status - they are a status symbol and heraldic animal, they live in the family house, are pampered and chauffeured to free flights in the desert in the morning and in the evening...

Since 2002 it has been forbidden to catch and keep hunting falcons in the wild, all animals are very valuable breeding animals - a falcon is worth on average €30,000.

butterfly-conservation.org/butterflies/small-skipper

Bright orange-brown wings held with forewings angled above hind wings. Males have a thin black line through the centre of fore-wing. Essex Skipper is similar but has black tips to the antenna (best-viewed head-on) and shorter scent brand which runs parallel to forewing edge rather than angled.

Small Skippers are insects of high summer. Although they spend much of their time basking or resting among vegetation, they are marvellous flyers, manoeuvring expertly through tall grass stems. It is these darting flights, wings glinting golden-brown in the sunlight, that normally alert an observer to their presence. Closer examination will reveal many more individuals nectaring or basking with their wings held in the half-open posture distinctive of skipper butterflies. The butterfly is widespread in southern Britain and its range has expanded northwards in recent years.

Size and Family

•Family: Skippers

•Size: Small

•Wing Span Range (male to female): 30mm

Although the legends about Beusdael go back to the Carolingian era of Charlemagne, the donjon dates from the 13th century.

The first lords of Beusdael appear from the beginning of the fourteenth century. The Beusdael family had a lot of power and status.

In 1882, major renovations were carried out on the castle.

However, during the occupation in 1940-1945, the interior of the castle was severely damaged.

Plain Pigeon / Paloma Ceniza (Patagioenas inornata )

Status: Non Common Resident (Residente No Comun)

Near Threatened (Amenazada)

The plain pigeon / Paloma Ceniza (Patagioenas inornata) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. Its natural habitats are forest, woodland, coastal desert, mangrove and swampy areas. It is threatened by habitat loss.

The plain pigeon is a large-bodied bird (38 cm [15 in]) that superficially resembles the common city pigeon. At a distance it appears pale blue-gray overall. The head, hind-neck, breast, and part of the folded wing are colored with a red-wine wash. When folded, the wing shows a white leading edge; in flight, it forms a conspicuous wing bar. Legs and feet are dark red. The female is slightly smaller and duller than the male. Juveniles are browner overall, with pale wing margins and dark eyes.

Three subspecies of the plain pigeon are recognized: P. i. inornata from Cuba and Hispaniola, P. i. exigua from Jamaica, and P. i. wetmorei from Puerto Rico.

These two Welsh flags fly atop the greatest of all the towers at Caernarfon Castle. We visited there and left exhausted but exhilerated after climbing about a thousand stairs in this massive place, often in almost complete darkness ! It was quite perilous in some parts, because of the twisting narrow stone stairs. Go up and come down at your own risk ! But who can resist?

Completed in 1283 as part of a war between Edward 1st and the then Welsh Princes. Here Edward and his military architect Master James of St George erected a castle, town walls and a quay all at the same time on the banks of the River Seiont. It's now the site of the Investiture of the Prince of Wales and has World Heritage status.

Fabulous views from the towers and battlements. Lots of things to fascinate - for instance, arrow slits up the stairways of the stone towers. I would love to have been a 'fly on the wall' to see how the people lived there back then. Dangerous times in England and Wales.

Ferocactus herrerae, commonly known as the twisted barrel cactus, Herrera's barrel cactus, or the biznaga (in Classical Nahuatl), is a species of viviparous barrel cactus in the genus Ferocactus of the family Cactaceae that is native to southwestern Sonora to the northwestern coastline of Sinaloa in western Mexico. It was described by Mexican botanist, Jesús González Ortega in 1927. Its common name refers to its twisted, barrel cactus shape habit, with long, hooked, or barbed spines.

F. herrerae reaches an average height of 2 m (6.56 ft), and 40 cm (15.74 in) in diameter. 7-9 spines, with supposed bristle-like radials. Flowers are yellow, with red-pink midribs and brown tips, blooming from Summer to early Autumn. Fruit are yellow-green and fleshy. Areoles are 2.03 cm long. It starts out in a globular barrel cactus form and eventually, as it matures, developing into a signature cylindrical barrel cactus form.

Ferocactus herrerae was originally listed as a subspecies or variety of Ferocactus wislizeni until it was elevated to full species status based on morphological differences. The prior treatment is still used by some authors.

Ferocactus herrerae was assessed and listed as "Vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature), for agricultural land clearance and conversion, combined with shrimp farming practices have greatly limited populations. Its current population is decreasing at a rate of 30%. It may also be provided a source of protection from CITES Appendix ll, though this cannot be certain.

Ferocactus herrerae is commonly used as an ornamental cactus out of its native range. Its seeds can be ground into flour, and its fruit are edible, showing numerous positive nutritional aspects.

Ferocactus herrerae is commonly pollinated by various cactus bee species (Lithurgus spp.).

Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jogyesa:

Jogyesa (Jogye Temple) is the chief temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The building dates back to the late 14th century and became the order's chief temple in 1936. It thus plays a leading role in the current state of Seon Buddhism in South Korea. The temple was first established in 1395, at the dawn of the Joseon Dynasty; the modern temple was founded in 1910 and initially called "Gakhwangsa". The name was changed to "Taegosa" during the period of Japanese rule, and then to the present name in 1954.

Jogyesa is located in Gyeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, in downtown Seoul. Natural monument No. 9, an ancient white pine tree, is located within the temple grounds. Jogyesa Temple is located in one of the most popular cultural streets in Seoul, Insa-dong, near the Gyeongbokgung Palace.

The Jogyesa Temple used to be known as Gakhwangsa Temple which was founded in 1395. During the Japanese colonial period (1910–1945), the temple become one of the strongest fortresses of Korean Buddhism. Gakhawangsa Temple emerged as the temple of the resistance to Japanese efforts to suppress Korean Buddhism. In 1937, a movement for the establishment of a Central Headquarters began which was successful with the building of the Main Buddha Hall of Jogyesa Temple in Seoul in 1938.

The temple became known as Taegosa Temple in 1938 and by its current name of Jogyesa Temple in 1954. The name Jogyesa Temple was chosen to denote the structure's status as the main temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism (Buddhist sect which combines and integrates the Korean Zen and Textual Schools of Buddhism). The Jogye Order has 1700 years of history and is the most representative of Korean Buddhism Orders. The Jogye Order is based on the Seokgamoni doctrine and teachings of the Buddha, and it focuses on the mind and nature of this.

The Daeungjeon (Main Buddha Hall) was constructed in 1938 of pine wood from Baekdu Mountain, and it's always filled with the sounds of chanting. In the main temple courtyard there are two trees which are 500 years old, a White Pine and a Chinese Scholar tree.

The White Pine tree is about 10 meters high and gave the nearby area “Susong-dong” its name (Song means 'pine tree'). This tree was brought by Chinese missionaries during the Joseon Dynasty. This pine tree sits besides the Main Hall, and its branch towards the Main Hall is only partially alive. One side of this tree is adjacent to the passage, while the other side sits next to the building. Therefore, because the area is inadequate for the tree to grow, the Lacebark pine is not preserved well and since the Lacebark pine is a rare tree species and is valuable in biology, it is designated and protected as a Natural Monument.

The Chinese Scholar tree, which is 26 meters tall and four meters in circumference, silently stands watch over the temple grounds.

Jogyesa Temple's features is a mix of traditional temple and palace architecture. The lattice designs found on the doors and windows of the Daeungjeon are unique in their own right. The temple also features the Geuknakjeon (Hall of Supreme Bliss) in which the Amitabha Buddha is enshrined, the Beomjongnu, a structure where a bell which enlightens the public with its sound is housed, and an information center for foreign nationals.

The Temple also has colorful matsya (Sanskrit for "fish") which is sacred to Hindu-Buddhists as it is one of the avatar (incarnation) of Hindu deity Vishnu which has been described in detail in Matsya Purana and 6th BCE Buddhist text Anguttara Nikaya.

To enter the temple, visitors must pass through the Iljumun or "one pillar gate". The Iljumun is an entry that represents is the division that separates the mortal world from the world of Buddha.

I will update commission status and the list later tonight~

n 1888 Queen Victoria granted Belfast the status of the city and it was agreed that a grand and magnificent building was required to reflect this new status. City Hall opened its doors on the first of August 1906, at a time of unprecedented prosperity and industrial might for the city.

The new City Hall was designed by Alfred Brumwell Thomas in the Baroque Revival style and constructed in Portland stone. The incredible building cost £369,000 to complete, the equivalent around 128 million pounds today but remains an extraordinary beacon of success and civic pride for Belfast.

City Hall has many connections with the famous ocean liner Titanic. Viscount William Pirrie who was Lord Mayor in 1896-1897 just before City Hall’s construction, was also managing director of Harland & Wolff Shipyard. He is the man credited as having the idea for both ambitious builds. He used many of his skilled workmen in the fit-out of City Hall which is why the interiors today are considered an incredible insight into the finish of Titanic’s lounges and suites, the ship’s carving panelling being very similar.

In a while, this tiny plant with its furry leaves will bear striking purple flowers, its petals covered in long, silky hairs.

Wild-growing pasqueflowers have ‘threatened’ status and are now found growing on only a few chalk and limestone grasslands. Martin Down, on the Dorset/Hampshire border, is one of them.

I will return when the Martin Down pasqueflowers are in flower.

From Wikipedia, "The City of London is a city, ceremonial county and local government district that contains the historic centre and the primary central business district (CBD) of London. It constituted most of London from its settlement by the Romans in the 1st century AD to the Middle Ages, but the modern city named London has since grown far beyond the City of London boundary. The City is now only a tiny part of the metropolis of London, though it remains a notable part of central London.

Administratively, it forms one of the 33 local authority districts of London; however, the City of London is not a London borough, a status reserved for the other 32 districts (including London's only other city, the City of Westminster). It is also a separate ceremonial county, being an enclave surrounded by Greater London, and is the smallest ceremonial county in the United Kingdom.

The City of London is widely referred to simply as the City (differentiated from the phrase "the city of London" by capitalising City) and is also colloquially known as the Square Mile, as it is 1.12 sq mi (716.80 acres; 2.90 km2) in area. Both of these terms are also often used as metonyms for the United Kingdom's trading and financial services industries, which continue a notable history of being largely based in the City. The name London is now ordinarily used for a far wider area than just the City. London most often denotes the sprawling London metropolis, or the 32 London boroughs, in addition to the City of London itself. This wider usage of London is documented as far back as 1888, when the County of London was created."

The dutch wetlands , the grienden

In the Netherlands we have our own wetlands, looe a bit like a tropical swamp in the summer heat, while in spring time, one can enjoy the special shapes of the willow trees.

The grienden close to our home and in this serie are the Carnisse grienden.

The explanation below comes from: nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Griend_(beplanting)

A griend or ham is a moist field on which willow wood is grown. Friends were exploited on a large scale until around 1960, after which the demand for griendhout fell sharply so that many friends were no longer maintained. Sometimes they got the status of nature reserve. The reintroduction of the beaver in the Netherlands was an attempt to achieve a natural management of the friends.

Because of the possibility to grow biofuels, they have been in the spotlight again since 2010.

Location

Friends often lay along the sea inlets on the dikes outside the dykes and in the rivers of South Holland and Noord-Brabant, especially the Biesbosch. Due to land reclamation, most of them have now often been located within the dykes, with the exception of, for example, the Rhoonse Grienden. The plantations outside the dykes are subject to tidal movement of the water level. That is why these friends were often provided with a friendly hill; a small mound with a griendkeet on it. This was a simple place where the griend workers could spend the night; they often stayed with the griend all week. Simple houseboats were also used for the same purpose.

Cultivation

The trees were planted and regularly dropped about 25 cm above the ground. New branches grew from the stumps. An annually disposed griend was called cut friend, doubtful or doubtful. The thin twigs were especially suitable for making baskets. Friends who were harvested every five years were called 'heel friends'. The heavier branches were suitable for many purposes, from stems for tools to the braiding of zinc pieces.

RSPB Amber status list.

The new moon this summer were not very favorable. Often without clouds but with very little transparent sky. Also, the ambient temperature has contributed to complicate matters for those who use DSLR uncooled.

In fact, on this occasion despite being at 1600 meters above sea level, the temperature never dropped below 20 ° C making the sensor work in my 550D around 26 ° -27 ° C and file.raw with thermal noise.

Anyway I tried to get the most from the image combined with DSS.

Even from light pollution gradient wanted complicate my life, but I hope that the result is still pleasant

Can look all dark, at a distance, in the breeding season. Very different in the winter when the bird is white below with white barring above, upperwing pattern very similar to the breeding season and useful in identifying the species at that time of year.

Voice

Displaying birds voice a series of fine notes.
