Toothworts
Molars, purpled from chewing blood,
Mouth the air. Like a fractured jaw,
It atrophies in brown senescence,
Shrivelled in mortal sequence.
Then come canines, each slick blade
A channelled fang on forest floor.

Notes: Toothworts, pictured here on the grounds of a Roman villa, parasitize the roots of trees, and contain no chlorophyll. The doctrine of signatures dictated that these corpse-like flowers were good for toothache, because they look so much like molars. As Grigson, The Englishman’s Flora points out, “the corolla rapidly dries and shrivels to a dark brown, so that on a spike at one time fresh flowers on top are succeeded by shrivelled flowers below, adding to the plant’s deathliness.” Moreover, the capsules “are ivory-white and shiny and channelled like small fangs.” Fortunately for the plants they parasitize, but not for enthusiasts, these botanical vampires are comparatively rare. Ospreys on Armand Bayou generally don't stick around and get chummy like some wading birds do, however they seem to like to make a dramatic statement when they depart, often circling for an additional close pass before heading off to fish or find a different perch.

I always think the trees which surround Balvaird Castle look as though they are sentinels protecting it.
And often they outshine it!
What could be more fashionable than a single white tail feather ? It's a bold statement by any means, and I'm sure he's the talk of the bird world.
The white tail feather is actually Leucism which is caused by uneven distribution of melanin in the feathers.

Taken in north central Kansas, USA. I have no idea why this bus is in the middle of a pasture. Often we see abandoned cars, tractors or implements. I've never seen a bus. Perhaps someone wanted to make a statement of sorts??? Or a party wagon..?

Swine flu from Mexico, news of manufacturing plant scandals that made it back to the U.S., SARS 1 pandemic from China, SARS 2 from China, tariffs, a trade war turning into a cold war, the worldwide Covid pandemic from Wuhan of 2020-2021 that crippled the economy, which nearly shut the company permanently down.
Things are shifting. There are persuasive arguments being discussed among CEOs about hidden long-term costs of manufacturing overseas that do not show up in quarterly and annual financial statements but that bite back hard. Has the equilibrium point and risk shifted so that their company's best financial interest is to bring manufacturing back? That means higher prices. Will those discussions become reality?
