Northern Lights moments while standing at Koppangen Bay in Northern Norway during low tide. I forgot everything, even where I was standing. A sneaky wave could have carried me away that transfigurated did I feel from the great show in the sky.
... you get a display of Northern Lights :) Here near Nord-Lenangen in Troms Fylke, Northern Norway.
Witnessing a night of aurora borealis show for hours on end with ever changing plumes and shapes, hues and intensities of those raging lights is an experience nobody forgets, especially not if it was the first real aurora. I mean I had seen instances before but never so bright and clear, so pronounced and prolonged.
another instance of a glorious night at Lenangenstraumen in Arctic Norway witnessing the grand show of nature last December. I can't wait for this year's possibilities to enjoy this capricious natuiral spectacle.
And another one from last winter's archives :)
The first moments of our first REAL Northern Lights which lasted for almost two hours and had us shooting away oblivious of the cold due to our excitement :)

Lenangenstraumen sea strait during a glorious winter night last December. I can't wait for this year's possibilities to enjoy this capricious natuiral spectacle.
he sky pulled all registers while we were standing by the shore of Ullsfjorden fjord in Svensby. One array of Northern Lights displays followed the next ...
Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday!
View from Riederalp towards Brig (canton of Wallis, Switzerland). The light trails higher up is the pass road of Simplon, which connects Switzerland with Italy.
a crescendo fortissimo during wonderful Northern Lights displays in the Arctic region of Norway right above Lenangenstraumen sea strait. A moment I will cherish as long as I can.
Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday!
grand and furious finale to almost three hours of Northern Lights show over Ullsfjorden fjord in the Arctic region of Norway. I wishes that night would never end :)
The definition of a natural wonder is that it must clearly be a natural site or monument that was not made by or altered by humans. North America is truly blessed when it comes to natural wonders and geographical marvels. A trip across this mammoth, diverse and beautiful country offers magnificent opportunities to explore rivers, lakes, mountain ranges, canyons, valleys and volcanoes.
It was a starry peaceful night at the icy seashore. Bright moonlight lit up the seascape. I decided to try to take one selfie photograph, because the view was so suitable for it. I was lucky - one shooting star appeared just at the right moment just at the right place...
One from my recent archives (last December in the Arctic region of Norway)
Splendid aurora shapes and colours all becoming visible thanks to long exposure :)
Happy Gorgeous green Thursday!

Christmas Garden 2019 at the Botanic Garden in Berlin. The illuminated glasshouse in my photo is the Mittelmeerhaus (Mediterranean greenhouse) which can also be booked for weddings and other events.
Since one of the most important ingredients that make a scene look Christmassy – snow – is obviously missing (nothing unusual in my region, February and March are the coldest winter months and the ones more likely to bring snow than December), I hit the sliders in various programmes to add a more festive atmosphere (and also to do something about the somewhat quirky-looking colours from the many illuminations). For the "starry night" texture in the sky, I've used one of the "Dirt and Scratches" filters in Analog Efex; if I remember correctly, it's a texture from the "Eroded" filter palette. I hope you like this little slider:)
Wishing you a Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent and Happy Sliders Sunday!
The very first instant of another night of Northern Lights when we noticed the green glow behind the mountain. Auroras appear to have a certain logic how they start and then develop. One can see the glow expanding and expanding and at a certain point it often starts oscillating and once it has reached a climax it seems to recede and start elsewhere. That's at least what I have observed :)
Happy Gorgeous Green Thursday!
"May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds." - Edward Abbey
"I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it will show me the stars" - OG Mandino
Wishing everyone a wonderful Holliday Season, peace and calm and a great time for closeness, inner reverie and enjoyment of togetherness. It is a season of wonder and beauty ... let's keep it so!

We were out last night for some Perseides shower adventure and ended up at Waverley Abbey near Farnham. Waverley Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in England. It was founded in 1128 by William Giffard, Bishop of Winchester.
This is such a beautiful location and the great thing is that despite being on private ground there is right of passage to the ruins. Not a single soul out there last night and we had so much fun :)
Plumes of Northern Lights appearing behind this snow-covered peak at the very tip of this peninsula in the Arctic region of Norway.
Merry Christmas to all my friends!
Ullsfjiorden fjord near the ferry terminal experiencing a magical night of striking Northern Lights.
Glorious Lofoten winter nights of dancing green spirits when Dame Aurora is out and about dancing her shoes off :)
Whilst going through my archives I found this amazing shot of a whole series of Northern Lights images we had managed to get during one week in December in the Arctic region of Norway. The amazing thing is to see aurora borealis streaming up from behind a mountain.
tall mountain along Lenangenstraumen in the Arctic region of Norway enjoying the company and touch of a Northern Lights sky full of myriads of stars.
Once more the betuwe region in the Netherlands. A nice clear night and an old shed should do the trick.
Last night we had clear skies on the Lofoten islands which could only mean that there had to be some aurora appearances somewhere. As soon as we had established ourselves in a sport by our favourite fjord, we spotted the first signs over this magnificent peak. Half an hour later the aurora was in full display. I shot more than 100 images of ever changing aurora over the diverse peaks of the frozen fjord which did not offer reflective waters, but the night skies, the stars, the beauty of those snow-covered peaks and the aurora should be a worthy object of contemplation for any nature lover :)
