Guardare, contemplare, sognare, pensare.

The night sky was crisp and clear last night. The cool change and cold winter air ensures there were little moisture to reflect the city lights.

Looks like more planes are flying again now that the borders are slowly opening. There are 2 flight within an hour in this image. These planes are most likely from Sydney or New Zealand as their flight paths are over my dwelling.

Take my heart, don't break it

Love me to my bones

All this time I've wasted

You were right there all along

You and I stargazing

Intertwining souls

We were never strangers

You were right there all along

Milky Way from Mt. Tamalpais West Peak

You know that song from Kygo - Stargazing? That was the first thing that popped in my mind while working on this photo. I really thought I didn't get the chance to shoot the Perseids this year in the Netherlands. The 11th/12th I went for a try, but it became cloudy. The 12th/13th (and peak of the Perseids).... more clouds. And the predictions for the other days were not hopeful. But when I didn't expect it anymore the sky suddenly cleared up at the 13th/14th. I was so happy!! Shot this shooting star, Milky Way, Mars and a other photographer at Goeree-Overflakkee.

Last night, I let the camera do it's thing, while I was able to simply watch the sky and the stars falling here and there. It seems like the whole city has decided to visit Elk Island to watch the Perseids, but by the time this was taken the park has emptied a bit. It was late at night (this series of shots was done between 2 and 3AM) and, unfortunately, my camera lens fogged up quite a bit towards the end of taking these 100 pictures, so I was not able to use some of them. I am, however, quite pleased with the results and will be quite happy to repeat the experience again. Quite happy that along with the falling stars we got to see a bit of aurora as well. Love watching stars late at night, especially in the park. It is so peaceful.. Happy stargazing friends! ;D

Mt Bromo, Indonesia 布罗莫火山——印度尼西亚

Mount Bromo is an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia. It's considered to be one of the most fascinating scenes in the world.

Imagine getting setup to do a bit of star photography next to a glacial lake with mountains in the background somewhere in Iceland.

Just as you are setup an alien glow starts appearing on your shots, washing out the stars. You can imagine how I felt ;)

I just went outside where the remnants of storm Christoph is still raging. There are a few stars in the sky peeping out from between the clouds, but it's cold and wet and windy. I fondly remembered the end of last summer when I was still going out late in the evenings to take pictures when everyone else had gone home. This one was taken at St Helen's Oratory below Cape Cornwall.

A Willy Nelson song came into my head:

... It was a time of the preacher

In the year of O-one

Now the lesson is over

And the killin's begun...

Kubuswoningen / cube houses, Rotterdam

Press 'F' if you like it.

NL:

ENG:

Cube houses (Dutch: Kubuswoningen) are a set of innovative houses built in Rotterdam and Helmond in the Netherlands, designed by architect Piet Blom and based on the concept of "living as an urban roof": high density housing with sufficient space on the ground level. Blom tilted the cube of a conventional house 45 degrees, and rested it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. His design represents a village within a city, where each house represents a tree, and all the houses together, a forest.

Three test versions were first constructed in 1974, and in 1977 18 houses were constructed in Helmond. The many houses required for a woonwoud ('living woods') were never realized. The houses in Rotterdam were designed in 1977 in a plan of 55, of which 39 were built. The cube houses in Helmond surrounded a theater, Theater 't Speelhuis, which was destroyed by a large fire on 29 December 2011.

Single

Stargazing on the remote dunes of Utah. Single exposure, Sony a7rm4, 24 mm, 13 sec, f/2.0, ISO 5000. I also did a stack for the sky that I haven’t gotten to yet, lol. Just processed this single as a quick peak. I found these dunes a couple of years ago when looking for something else, another location that didn’t work out. I’ve been trying to get back there for a couple of years. This site seems rarely visited. Lots of animal tracts, very few human tracts. Low Level Lightning used with a single Cineroid light panel. www.lowlevellighting.org.

A quick return visit to this location, this time without the full moon, provided a slightly better view of the stars. Finally, the shot I was after.

Here in the southern part of Australia, we occasionally see an aurora. They are mostly visible in the southern most state of Tasmania, but now and then in Victoria we can just catch a glimpse (Sometimes much further north). I could not see a thing with my old eyes, and was relying totally on online reports and emailed alerts. This was a pretty one with the longer exposures bringing out the much dimmer reds and oranges not often seen above the brighter greens. This was taken south of Stawell in Victoria with the whole of the Grampians National Park being in front of me creating a wonderful dark sky area that is great for stargazing.
