The Caisse d'Épargne hotel, inaugurated on July 20, 1904, is the fruit of the collaborative work of a multi-award-winning architect, Joseph Albert Tournaire, and four talented sculptors, all of whom have received awards during their respective careers.
The Palais de la Caisse d'Epargne was created by the architect Albert Tournaire represented in Marseille by the architect Paul Mouren, next to a branch of the Banque de France built in 1886 with a much less decorated style.
On the facade of the square, above the three bays, masks by the Marseille sculptor Constant Roux, first Grand Prix of Rome, symbolizing trade, the navy and maritime works. On both sides, the coats of arms of the two sub-prefectures of Aix-en-Provence and Arles.
At the top of the facade, in a rounded pediment sculpted by Henry Lombard, Grand Prix de Rome 1883, two figures represent, on either side of the coat of arms of Marseille, rural Provence and maritime Provence [tourisme-marseille.com]
My project focused on a reflection of local natural resources both in the building and in the educational textiles programme. The programme uses a creative, inclusive education to bring people together and learn from each other alongside learning a craft. The layout of the building is dictated by the linear process of the craft and the existing buildings on site. This image presents the design, showing a night time view of the scheme and its minimal impact of the environment.

This regeneration project is an extension of The Pipe Factory located in the Barras, Glasgow, that houses artists in residency. The project, creating more exhibition space for the artists, takes inspiration from the types of artworks that are produce, mainly sculpture, and the history of the pipe factory. The building was previously a clay pipe factory with kilns at the heart of the building. The proposal, inspired by this, has kiln like spaces that showcase the sculptures. The exhibition space also leads into the adjoining existing exhibition space in the ground floor Pipe Factory.
I guess there could have been significantly more than 800 or significantly less, but the focus was on getting down.

The Vieux Port represents the birthplace of Marseilles. This is where the city began as a Greek port around 600 BC. Surrounded by serene blue waters, the Old Port is located in the west of Marseilles near the Canebière boulevard. A stroll around this ancient harbor gives visitors a feel for the thriving Mediterranean atmosphere of Marseilles. The lively waterfront is a focal point for tourists, and many say that this area is the best place to find authentic bouillabaisse, the flavorful seafood stew that is a specialty of Marseille. On the east side of the harbor, the Quai des Belges hosts a fish market every morning. Once an important commercial port, the Vieux Port is now used primarily by fishing boats and sports craft. The Old Port is also the launching point for the ferries that sail to two popular tourist destinations: the Château d'If and the Calanques near Cassis [planetware.com]

Bringing Safe Water to Scale
Diarrheal disease, a leading cause of death for children under 5 is responsible for nearly 1 million deaths per year in that age group alone. Many communities seek solutions through protected communal water sources, or, if they can afford it, water pipeline systems. But these systems are ineffective when clean water at the source is stored in the household and recontaminated with a dirty cup or an unwashed hand. Use of chlorine, on the other hand, keeps water purified for a minimum of 24 hours. Using randomized control trials, the Dispensers for Safe Water (DSW) program at Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) rigorously evaluated ways to increase uptake by adjusting the way chlorine is delivered with dispensers. With Stage 3 support, Dispensers for Safe Water is scaling in Kenya and Uganda, and has plans to add more countries to that list. The project aims to provide up to 5 million people with access to dispensers over three years.
