Out front of the Lonsdale Quay Market on the South side of the building is a beautiful tile mosaic fountain with abstract art inside of it, and just adjacent to that is the Love Locks area of the waterfront boardwalk where people leave various types of locks attached to the wire mesh to honour their loved ones. This waterfront area is also home to year round events and outdoor music. [...].

The exterior of the building features layered stonework in contrasting colours: white Calissane limestone alternates with green sandstone from Golfolina near Florence. Marble and pictorial mosaics in various colours decorate the upper church. A 35 m (115 ft) double staircase leads to a drawbridge, granting access to the crypt and, via another set of stairs, to the church's main entrance.

Built on a 9.5-metre high hill that makes it visible from far, covering an area of 22,000 square metres, and with the capacity to accommodate more than 40,000 worshippers, the Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is an architectural masterpiece, dedicated to the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, fondly remembered as the Father of the UAE.
Completed in 12 years at an estimated cost of Dh2.167 billion, it is the third biggest mosque in the world after Islam’s two holiest sites in Saudi Arabia – Mecca’s Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.
With its 82 domes decorated in white marble and white gypsum adorning the mosque’s interior, the Zayed Mosque has earned the sobriquet, the ‘white pearl of the Gulf’. The mosque has four minarets on four corners with a height of about 107 metres each. The very best of coloured floral marble and mosaics have been used to pave the courtyard which is about 17,000 square metres.
While the mosque’s architecture combines the best of traditional Islamic designs and modern architectural techniques, what is drawing crowds to this holy place of worship is the sense of peace and utter serenity that it invokes.
The work on the mosque was initiated by the late ruler, founder and first president of the UAE whose vision was founded on dialogue between religions, civilisations and cultures. In the true spirit of this vision, the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque, popularly called Grand Mosque by local residents, is seen as a ‘globally unifying’ landmark from its conception to completion, bringing together designers, features, materials and suppliers from nearly every corner of the globe - Italy, Germany, Morocco, India, Turkey, Iran, China, Greece and the UAE. The Vieux Port represents the birthplace of Marseilles. This is where the city began as a Greek port around 600 BC. Surrounded by serene blue waters, the Old Port is located in the west of Marseilles near the Canebière boulevard. A stroll around this ancient harbor gives visitors a feel for the thriving Mediterranean atmosphere of Marseilles. The lively waterfront is a focal point for tourists, and many say that this area is the best place to find authentic bouillabaisse, the flavorful seafood stew that is a specialty of Marseille. On the east side of the harbor, the Quai des Belges hosts a fish market every morning. Once an important commercial port, the Vieux Port is now used primarily by fishing boats and sports craft. The Old Port is also the launching point for the ferries that sail to two popular tourist destinations: the Château d'If and the Calanques near Cassis [planetware.com]
Notre-Dame de la Garde (Our Lady of the Guard), in French for Marseille’s citizens “la bonne mère” (the good (holy) mother), is a Catholic basilica in Marseille, France, and the city's best-known symbol. The site of a popular Assumption Day pilgrimage, it was the most visited site in Marseille. It was built on the foundations of an ancient fort at the highest natural point in Marseille, a 149 m (489 ft) limestone outcropping on the south side of the Old Port of Marseille.
Construction of the basilica began in 1852 and lasted for 21 years. It was originally an enlargement of a medieval chapel, but was transformed into a new structure at the request of Father Bernard, the chaplain. The plans were made and developed by the architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu. It was consecrated while still unfinished on June 5, 1864.
The basilica consists of a lower church or crypt in the Romanesque style, carved from the rock, and an upper church of Neo-Byzantine style decorated with mosaics. A square 41 m (135 ft) bell tower topped by a 12.5 m (41 ft) belfry supports a monumental 11.2 m (37 ft) statue of the Madonna and Child made of copper gilded with gold leaf [wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre-Dame_de_la_Garde]
The Caisse d'Épargne hotel, inaugurated on July 20, 1904, is the fruit of the collaborative work of a multi-award-winning architect, Joseph Albert Tournaire, and four talented sculptors, all of whom have received awards during their respective careers.
The Palais de la Caisse d'Epargne was created by the architect Albert Tournaire represented in Marseille by the architect Paul Mouren, next to a branch of the Banque de France built in 1886 with a much less decorated style.
On the facade of the square, above the three bays, masks by the Marseille sculptor Constant Roux, first Grand Prix of Rome, symbolizing trade, the navy and maritime works. On both sides, the coats of arms of the two sub-prefectures of Aix-en-Provence and Arles.
At the top of the facade, in a rounded pediment sculpted by Henry Lombard, Grand Prix de Rome 1883, two figures represent, on either side of the coat of arms of Marseille, rural Provence and maritime Provence [tourisme-marseille.com]

From Public Health Hazard to Organic Fertilizer: Franchising Human Waste in Kenya’s Slums
After a successful Proof of Concept at DIV Stage 1, Sanergy, the award-winning social enterprise, recompeted and won DIV Stage 2 funding to provide hygienic sanitation to 70,000 slum residents through sales of at least 700 toilets. The Sanergy model creates a dense network of low-cost latrines to slum residents, collects the waste daily, and processes it as fertilizer and biogas. Designed by MIT engineers and architects, the low-cost, modular hygienic latrines can be assembled in one day. The sanitation centers are franchised to local entrepreneurs and local youth groups. Revenue from the organic fertilizer and biogas energy add to the model's profitability.
