I took this photo as the riders powered past me on the straight pitch towardBasilica of St. Mary of Mount Berico in Vicenza, Italy. Svestad BÃ¥rdseng, Pacher, and Poole were straining against the gradient, and I caught them mid-effort with the crowd smearing into a soft rush behind them. What I love about this capture is how the motion and atmosphere came together without needing to show the summit or the finish line.

The oversized mouse trap at Burrs Country Park.

It was commissioned in 1998 as part of the Irwell Sculpture Trail.

"David Fryer’s human-scale mouse trap has the words ‘picnic area’ inscribed on its plate in a wry comment on the hidden history of the site and its current use as a country park. The area has been transformed from a derelict industrial site into a haven for leisure activities such as canoeing, camping and fishing, which prompted the artist to ask whether it is a tourist trap. "

Again, thinking this was a unique commissioned sculpture I did an image search and discovered examples of this sculpture (or very similar) were to be seen in many places across the world...

Thinking that this was unique that someone had thought on and made, I soon discovered there are lots for sale.

Too blurry?

I left the Shake Reduction on during the exposure. I figured it might help reduce blur in the "off-axes." Not sure if it helps or hurts or is irrelevant in these pan-blur shots...

A July spent in england this year was a life half-lived. The rain was relentless and summer a cruel taunt. Meanwhile, just across the channel in southern France the sun was out and Lucy and I were riding around Mazamet and catching some of the Tour de France with Lawrie and Natalie. We got amazing access and were so close to the riders. This was inside the riders enclosure at the Tour de France with bikestyletours.com at the Albi time trial stage

"This sculpture is made up of a series of stones recycled from a dismantled bridge on Market Street in Bury. The artists discovered marks made by the original masons to which new carved symbols were added. Working on site gave Edwards and Thompson an understanding of the place, the passing of time, the people and the industry of the area, which is reflected in their work. "

Approaching the mounument on the barren slopes of Mount Ventoux, wrapped in the Union Jack, are Barry Hoban, the sub-prefect of Carpentras, the mayor of Bedoin, Helen Simpson and Alex Taylor. The monument had been paid for by donations to the Cycling magazine. From the Cycling issue of October 25, 1969.

Aka Peel Tower.

This landmark building, which overlooks Ramsbottom, pays tribute to Sir Robert Peel, who was significant in the repeal of the Corn Laws.

"....In 1845, he faced the defining challenge of his career. Failed harvests led much of the population to call for the repeal of the 30-year-old Corn Laws, which banned the import of cheap foreign grain - a crisis triggered by the Irish potato famine. Unable to send sufficient food to Ireland to stem the famine, he eventually decided the Corn Laws must be repealed out of humanity. Landowners saw the attempt as an attack on them, and fiercely protested in the House of Commons. Peel’s Conservative Party would not support him and the debate lasted for 5 months.

Eventually, in June 1846, the Corn Laws were repealed...."

For us this is the final leg of a 15 stage walk. Way back in August 2008 we started on the Capital Ring by walking from our front door to Stage 14. Now we have but three or four miles to go to complete the circuit. So this is a local walk, one that we could do on any day, but this happens to be a sunny Sunday morning, and that's made my camera more active than usual.

The sign in the picture above is at Horseshoe Bridge, a footbridge that crosses the River Lea (or Lee) at the bottom of Springfield Park and is a little way into today's walk. Let's go back to the beginning.
