All the furniture from the school was stacked in various classrooms to the top. Had this been in the northeast, years of snow, wind, sleet and rain would have destroyed it. Because this was located in Arkansas, everything remained in fairly good shape.

Gestern morgen auf einem Sandmagerrasen in Mittelfranken, der Hintergrund ist bereits zur Hälfte von Sonnenlicht geflutet. Leider saßen die drei Falter verhältnismäßig weit entfernt, weshalb ich nur die Möglichkeit sah hier eine nachträgliche Schärfentiefenerweiterung (DFF) anzuwenden, um den Hintergrund möglichst ruhig zu bekommen und meine Subjekte möglichst gut in den Vordergrund zu bringen...
Die Tiere kommen vom Norden Spaniens über Mitteleuropa und Italien bis nach Osteuropa vor. Man findet sie auch in Nordafrika.
Die Falter fliegen in einer Generation von Ende Juni bis August, die Raupen findet man ab September und nach der Überwinterung bis in den Juni. Die Raupen ernähren sich von vielen verschiedenen Gräsern.
Die Weibchen lassen ihre glatten, weißlichen, runden und unten leicht abgeflachten Eier über Grasland fliegend ungezielt fallen. Die Eier sind deutlich größer, als die verwandter Arten, da die jungen Raupen mehr Energie benötigen, da sie nach dem Schlupf ohne Nahrungsaufnahme überwintern. Die Raupen sind nachtaktiv und wechseln im Laufe ihrer Entwicklung die Futterpflanzenarten. Sie verpuppen sich in einem lockeren Gespinst aufrecht an einem Grashalm. Die Puppe ist weißlich oder gelblich bis ockerbraun gefärbt.
Die Art ist momentan noch ungefährdet. (wikipedia)

Toncontin, (Atlantida), 5-feb-2014, Macro of the gills on the underside of some Bracket Fungi that were growing on a small log in a woodpile. The cap is normally up, but in the case the log had been moved and the gills were now facing upwards. This is a stacked photo made of of 11 shots that were each manually focused with camera on tripod and then combined to give focus from the hairs to the base of the fungi. Settings:

Vintage lacquer stackable snack dishes. I suspect they were produced in Japan but they don't have any markings.
The size of this stack and the volume of exhaust is simply awesome. It forces you to think about the volume of coal being burned and the impact on our environment, even though the exhaust gas has had the particulates removed and has been scrubbed.

Some of the columns in the cloister at Abbaye de St Papuol are made of stacked bricks. If other columns are any example The would have been plaster/stuccoed to give them a cylindrical appearance.
This is why I giggle when the pediatrician asks, "Can he stack at least three or four blocks?"
We lift him up when it gets this high. And yes, this was all his doing.
