The Vyne is a Grade I listed 16th-century country house in the parish of Sherborne St John, near Basingstoke, Hampshire. The house was first built circa 1500–10 in the Tudor style by William Sandys, 1st Baron Sandys, Lord Chamberlain to King Henry VIII. In the 17th century it was transformed to resemble a classical mansion. Today, although much reduced in size, the house retains its Tudor chapel, with contemporary stained glass. The classical portico on the north front was added in 1654 to the design of John Webb, a pupil of Inigo Jones, and is notable as the first portico in English domestic architecture.
The former brewhouse and laundry form the north side of the courtyard adjacent to the house. These have some 16th Century timbers, and were either adapted from an exiting Tudor building, or built using salvaged materials.

A shot from my friends' stables. The background is blown out, but I just love the dog's stance. There were at least 5 dogs on the property that day. The fans are to keep the flies off of the horses, but at least one dog knows how to benefit as well!

This stable catches my eye every time I pass it. During this ride thru Palmetto, Fl the clouds seemed to call out God's glory for a picturesque scene.

Here is my 13th entry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. For my second entry in the Classic Castle category I decided to go with a truly classic approach – maintaining a very similar style to the castle sets of the 80s, with just a few more tiles. I was surprised by how difficult and time consuming it was to build in that simplistic style, and am especially pleased with the yellow and black tudor portion I based off of the old printed wall element from Black Falcon’s Fortress. The tower is hinged off the wall, and the tudor guardhouse has a hinging portion to allow access to the interior.
Set #6062 Battering Ram was the first castle set John and I ever got (no we’re not that old, we got it second hand), so Black Falcons have always been extra special to us. Building this brought back a lot of fond memories of playing with that old set.
