St Mawes Castle built around the same time as Pendennis to guard the river. Apparently there was going to be another castle built at Trefusis Point but it never happened.
Normally the door in the centre would be open to give access to the main tower. To maintain social distancing in 2020 English Heritage had worked out a one way route for visitors going round the lower bastions but not into the main part of the castle.
