Miscellaneous Squash from New England USA. Happy Thanksgiving!

I couldn't help thinking that these Halloween squash look like a modern family: parents differing in ethnicity and their child resembling neither of them. It's a microcosm of Toronto. :-)

It is basically the last hurrah before winter blankets everything with a chill that will hold you in its grasp until June.

Just off the East Fork of the White River, near Fort Vallonia, Indiana. Melons and squash by the wagon load, three wagons hitched at a time. Wonderful harvest this year. Near the Medora Covered Bridge, the longest in America.

The 3 types of summer squash I grew in the garden last summer.

From left: zucchini (green), Emperol and yellow squash.

They're all very good.

To all who visit and view, and – especially – express support and satisfaction: you are much appreciated!

You don't have to like squash to live here....but it helps!

South of the James Market

We belong to a CSA* called The Food Project. Once a week we pick up our farmshare, which in our case, is held at Long Hill Gardens. Sometimes its raining and sometimes its too hot and sometimes time is short, but when I get a chance, I like to take pictures. This image started with a photo that I took on August 4, a view looking down into a big tub of summer squash. Tonight I edited the original photo to get this composition.

Someone over the weekend has had a feed of fish & chips in the north car park at New Brighton Beach and left all their rubbish behind, including this small can of tomato sauce that you can buy at the fish & chip shop. Nearby was all their paper rubbish, not 20 metres away from a rubbish bin. Presumably squashed by an arriving or departing car!

This is one of the many huge squash blossoms in our garden. We are getting Organic Yellow Cook Neck Squash in abundance this summer. I made a huge East Indian stew with some of these, it turned out quite tasty.
