The imposing cliff that protects the tourist port of Salivoli

This resting lapwing was seen at the Toledo (Ohio) Zoo. The first picture in the comments below, shows another lapwing kneeling.

The Spur-winged goose is a large, powerful, broad-winged bird with an odd spur on the forepart of the wing. Despite its large size (Adults ±75-115 cm long, weigh- ± 4- 7 kg), and ground-nesting habits which led to its being called a goose, it is actually a perching duck. The coloring is generally black and white with iridescent bronze-green upper parts and a gray-blue bare face.

A Torrent Duck in the Andes of Colombia showing it’s carpel spur while preening. There are few birds which have this growth from the hand hidden in the wing. It’s primarily use is for defense.

Nests on bare ground, very vocal when threatened.

Many thanks for looking at my pictures.

I am not sure which Hopper this is so have submitted for ID. I will update once I get an answer.

Just 8 minutes after I posted and 15 minutes after I submitted for ID the answer came back.

These guys are undoubtedly one of my favorite shorebird species. They are among the most numerous of the various birds found at Sakumono Lagoon, along with the pratincole in my recent post. They nest along the shoreline, and it wasn’t uncommon for me to be tailed and badgered by an angry pair as I passed through. Unfortunately, they can be a bit skittish when they aren’t trying to take my head off, so it took about a half hour of slowly crawling through the wonderful mix of mud and various types of droppings found at the lagoon to get close enough... I thought it was completely worth it in the end, though.

I know it's not the rule of thirds... but the head is in the middle...

I always head for this spur of gritstone rock when I go up Ramshaw Rocks. The path ahead goes much further than you would think meandering amongst the outcrops, up and up, views in all directions. It gives you time....space. Do you ever think when you go to places like this? And wonder? We have so much diversity and history here in Britain. These places have been visited by people not just for the last hundred years, but hundreds of years. Unquestionably for thousands, almost certainly tens of thousands of years too. And perhaps a hundred thousand years! Wow! What were they like? What were they thinking? Yes, we are all just visitors on this planet, making our own observations. For all that is wrong and bad in the world today, which one of us wouldn't wish a chance to visit again in another life? Or is it just me in reflective mood with post Covid blues?

Oh, how I've missed taking photos! I've been quite sick actually and I'm just starting to feel better. I'll be back soon!
