A few of these little guys appeared on my lawn after a couple of days of heavy spring rain. I have not seen them before - if anyone can help with ID it would be much appreciated

Kusunoki (Camphor tree, Cinnamomum camphora) is native to subtropical Asia including the southern part of Japan. It is an evergreen tree but new leaves sprout in spring to replace old ones.

It has been often chosen as sacred trees like Sugi (Japanese cedar).

Camphor obtained from the tree has been used for medicine, incense, and insect repellent.

 

This tree is located in the Shiba Park near Tokyo Tower in the Minato City (港区) of Tokyo

Every year, I see loads of these sprouts popping out from the ground just before the arrival of spring. Yeah... am happy!!! These are back again!!!!
