A hefty refractory block stamped "GKN" seen between two factory units. It measures 22 x 16 x c. 4 inches. The units in this area are built on the old upper GKN foundry which closed down in the early 1970s so is probably left over from then. It is likely to have been made in the GKN Refractory Works at Two Locks in Cwmbran; this also closed down in the 1970s, and is now a housing estate. When operating it was referred to as "the white brick works" to distinguish it from the Whitehead works across the canal from it, referred to as "the red brick works".

I have never before seen such a joyful cemetery - everyone had an abundance of flowers and a mini Jesus, Mary or Angel above them. It was so...festive..
