除夕夜來去Springvale的關帝廟拜拜 回家前的大合照:D

St Luke’s Anglican Church on Police Road in what is now Mulgrave but was originally part of Springvale North. It first opened in the early 1963 as part of the urban growth of Melbourne’s southeast in what was at the time the edge of the metropolitan area located not far from the main highway to Dandenong. The site includes a church hall and vicarage set back from a large car park in what was a product of the era of increased car ownership

The original church was of a utilitarian design doubling as a hall dating back to the founding of the parish built in 1962-3 until a dedicated church was built next door and opened by the Anglican Archbishop for Melbourne Frank Woods a decade later. The Church was short back to front consisting only a handful of rows of pews in a wide setting around the altar which was increasingly the fashion of the early 1970s. Added to this was concealed fluorescent lighting around the perimeter wall and large screen for the overhead projector in place of hymn books. A full height stained glass window behind the altar captured neutral light from the south with a pair of high set windows on the northern side letting in light from the rear without excess sun streaming in.

St Luke's also served as a polling place at Federal elections using the parish hall over the years. In recent years declining attendances in a changing demographics ultimately saw closure of the church with Covid lockdowns appearing to be the final straw.

The site was put up for sale in late 2024 for sale as a development site in an area where 'knock down-rebuilds' are increasingly commonplace. A final sale was made in early 2025 with the church awaiting its fate at the time of this post.
