The tree-fern sensed spring and rolls out its new leaves.
The green leaves underneath grow out of a tree unknown to me, a long stem with only leaves at the very top.
Spring rolls and a rice salad. I always call these Nems; as that's what I was told they were the first time I had them, here in France. I then have to try and remember what they are in English.
It's not a great photo, but I wasn't having a great camera day.

Deep fried vegetarian Thai pastry paper wraps, mushrooms, glass noodles, taro, carrots and cabbage. Served with

SPRING ROLLS ( The Kopan cook book)
A delightful deep-fried roll with a vegetable filling
Ingredients:
makes 12
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 tablespoon fresh garlic, minced
3 cups mixed vegetables, parboiled and chopped or shredded (for example, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach)
1/3 cup red onion, diced
1/2 cup tofu, diced
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
12 wrappers
oil for deep frying

Spring rolls just like my mom makes. She likes to use bulgogi (Korean style beef) and I like to eat it. She makes a "sauce" out of fresh squeezed lemon juice, a little sugar and red pepper flakes. Healthy and tasty!

the filling consisted of diced carrots, peppers, mushrooms. scallions, bean sprouts, and chicken, all cooked before being wrapped up by Jason (a master spring roll wrapper-er).
Vegetarian starters, deep-fried tofu and spring rolls. Tofu was a little bland (it was all batter), but vegetarian spring rolls were nice. At The Old Pack Horse, Chiswick High Road.
my new favorite restaurant- Saigon Vietnamese Asian Restaurant. I've been there 5 or 6 times since they opened in January. Awesome food, lots of fresh herbs and fresh flavors. Freaking awesome.
I like to drizzle warm Hoisin sauce on my mini spring rolls after which I can down half a dozen of them in one sitting! Another prop I can eat!
Finally a Vietnamese noodle shop in St. Cloud. The Viet Tien Restaurant opened this past week in the Pantown neighborhood. Others have come and gone but they were larger, less cluttered and conjested. Viet Tien is barely visible, a half dozen tables in the corner of the Viet Tien Market (the best grocery store in town for things like black chicken and red rice). Tonight LaVona had shrimp & pork spring rolls with a dessert, tofu in ginger syrup. She still considers herself an invalid thus qualified to subsitute desserts for main courses.
The China grill, Hvidovre. I just had to go back, eat a springroll, and ask if I could take some shots. This grill is unchanged since the 70´s. Another bicycle ride following the rails between Hvidovre and Rødovre stations, the B-line.
we followed the directions on the box for the batter; the mushrooms were tiny cremini that i just plunked into the batter. the bell pepper was sliced into approximately 1/4-inch slices. The sweet potato was peeled and boiled for 10 minutes before slicing 1/4-inch thick.
