at Winterthur. We just came back from an enchanted week of gardens and museums in the Wilmington Delaware area.
We had the Enchanted Woods- intended for kids- to ourselves on a lovely weekday. Although an adult can stand up once inside the cottage, it is scaled for little ones and is complete with furnishings inside! It is made of stacked stone mixed with pieces of ornamental cement items like balusters and decorations. Topped off with a thatched roof and an eagle on the chimney! Just a delightful place!!
“The bird on the branch, the lily in the field, the deer in the forest, the fish in the sea, the numberless companies of happy men, all these proclaim with great joy: God is love! But from below, and as if carried by all these voices, like the moaning bass below all the high sopranos, we hear, de profundis, the voices of the sacrificed victims: God is love.”
-Kierkegaard, La note de 1852, Bohlin, 1941, p. 251.
...Even at the moment it leaves God’s hands, the sprout of creation is already beautiful, but this very seedling points to its evolution, to the very lively but tragic history of God and man working together, their synergy. According to St. Maximus the Confessor, the realization of the primal beauty in the perfect Beauty takes place at the end and is called the Kingdom.[

Salvaged from my former yard by my neighbor when she realized the new owner was ripping out all the flower beds. I now have two happy clumps of it here and will be sure to take them along whenever we move!
Note the obligatory ant!

This one is definitely only for wee ones. There are two little chairs inside and only a small child could fit through the door! It is made from a hollowed out poplar trunk with a thatched roof. There are so many wonders here!
Do view large!
The Pelee Islander II sits at the government dock on the Island, waiting until the morning to take birders back to the mainland in Leamington after a week of the Springsong Festival. Built in Chile, it gives the Island ferry service greater capacity and the ability to work in worse weather than its predecessors, which came in handy last spring. We are booking travel for this May and getting pretty excited.
