And I still climbing to northward and upward, alone, excited by the beauty around me everywhere and was not only the view but also the sound. I could hear the murmur from the creeks meandering the rocky mountains, the sonorous silence of air moving freely through the branches of trees crammed with light green leaves, young leaves, spring leaves.
As always, I had a clear destination, I wanted to reach the summits and photograph them closely, but as always, something distracted me along the way, something caught my attention. Perhaps it was a tree with white flowers, or some old stone houses obscured by time, or perhaps was my mind that sometimes wanders haphazardly with memories that I do not know why, invade me. And I never get to where I had imagined it was my destiny.
It had rained, but not too much. The little sun was no longer reaching to the valley and the clouds, that had dropped their load, were breaking into pieces illuminated by the fading sun.
I seized the moment at which a few rays of sun passed through these clouds and showed me a dark blue sky, to make some photos. Few, because it was time to return to not worry anyone and had to descend to lower heights than the 2500 meters in which I was.
And I retraced my steps undoing the route that had taken me so long to reach, forcing myself not to look away from the road as the wonderful show that the splendid nature offered me, had demanded me a time that I no longer had.

Y seguía subiendo hacia el norte y hacia arriba, solo, emocionado por la belleza que me rodeaba por todas partes y no era solo la vista, sino también el sonido. Podía escuchar el murmullo de los riachuelos serpenteando las rocosas montañas, el sonoro silencio del aire moviéndose libremente por entre las ramas de los árboles abarrotados de hojas verde claro, hojas jóvenes, hojas de primavera.
Como siempre, llevaba un destino claro, quería llegar a las cumbres y fotografiarlas de cerca, pero como siempre, algo me distrajo en el camino, algo llamo mi atención. Quizá fue un árbol de flores blancas, o unas casas antiguas de piedra oscurecida por el tiempo, o quizá mi pensamiento que, a veces, vaga sin orden ni concierto con recuerdos que no sé porque, me invaden. Y nunca llego a donde había imaginado que era mi destino.
Había llovido, pero poco. El poco sol que quedaba, ya no llegaba al fondo del valle y las nubes que ya habían soltado su carga, se iban rompiendo en pedazos iluminados por el sol mortecino.
Aproveché el instante en el que unos pocos rayos de sol atravesaban estas nubes y me mostraban un cielo azul oscuro para hacer algunas fotos. Pocas, pues ya era hora de regresar para no preocupar a nadie y había que descender a cotas más bajas que los 2500 metros en los que me encontraba.
Y volví sobre mis pasos deshaciendo la ruta que tanto tiempo me había costado alcanzar, obligándome a no apartar la vista de la ruta ya que el maravilloso espectáculo que la naturaleza esplendorosa me ofrecía, me habría exigido un tiempo que ya no me quedaba.
Otra vez será.

Built in 1861 and closed in 1962. Part of the South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway. Designed, as was the nearby dismantled Belah viaduct, by the Cumbrian engineer Sir Thomas Boucher. Best not to mention the Tay Bridge disaster, that was one of his.
Lots of work recently to maintain the viaduct that carries a public footpath through the rather splendid nature reserve.

Last month we stayed on Terschelling, a Dutch Island with splendid nature conservation. The beautiful land caves in and moves a bit every year, as all Dutch Islands in the "Waddenzee" do. We (especially I, haha) miss rocks, but we've got plenty of sturdy sand reed to slow down the impact of the sea.
It is a bit estranging to see sand reed being planted along a plane that was created by pumping out a swampy area. Due to the repression of the exotic succulent Crassula Helmsii, many swamps on the island are drained and flooded again.

It is a bit estranging to see sand reed in the middle of a water pool. Due to the repression of the exotic succulent Crassula Helmsii, many swampy areas on the island have been drained and flooded again. That explains this strange image.

The most remote state park in Michigan, this is (not surprisingly) our favorite that we’ve been to in the Midwest. It’s a long (7 mile) road into the park that you need a high clearance 4x4 to drive and has 8400 acres of splendid nature- 6 lakes, ponds, creeks, lots of wildlife, and marshy areas.
As we continued on our way home today, in unseasonably cold (-2C) and snowy, spring weather, my husband stopped, like he usually does, for me to enjoy the awesome beauty of "my special lake" on Coalmont Road, BC, Canada.

LAGO DI CORNINO
Siamo nella splendida riserva naturale del lago di Cornino, comune di Forgaria del Friuli.
Nella riserva vi è un centro visite dove informarsi sul Progetto Grifone, è possibile anche ammirare qualche esemplare. Questo progetto internazionale iniziato da una sola coppia ha riscosso un grande successo.
Il lago invece è un tripudio di colori, limpida e smagliante la sua trasparenza è un carosello colorato di verdi e azzurri mozzafiato. Nonostante la profondità di 8 m sembra che il fondo sia li appena sotto la superficie. Il lago misura circa 140 m di lunghezza.

CORNINO LAKE
We are in the splendid nature reserve of Lake Cornino, in the municipality of Forgaria del Friuli.
In the reserve there is a visitor center where you can find out about the Grifone Project, it is also possible to admire some specimens. This international project started by a single couple has been a great success.
The lake, on the other hand, is a riot of colors, clear and dazzling, its transparency is a colorful carousel of breathtaking greens and blues. Despite the depth of 8 m it seems that the bottom is there just below the surface. The lake measures approximately 140m in length.

The garden snail is a terrestrial species with nocturnal habits; it does most of its day-to-day activities at night or very early in the morning, but if it rains during the day, it usually goes out.

Mosel-Traumpfad Eltzer Burgpanorama (Eltz Castle Panorama Trail)
Marvellous views of the plains of the Mosel plateau and tranquil meadowlands along the bubbling Elzbach combine with a unique cultural monument: the castle per se – Eltz Castle!
Directly after starting from the village’s community centre in Wierschem the hiker can already enjoy the vast open expanse of the Mosel plateau. The trail climbs continuously along natural footpaths, and there is the final reward of a magnificent view of the deep-cut Elzbach valley and the Pyrmont Castle. Soon further on through Count Eltz’s Forest the Elzbach is reached, meandering in countless bends. Later the path joins the Mosel Heights Trail which initially takes the hiker through valley meadowlands and finally on to a hill.
Crossing rough rocks there is a breathtaking view of the fairytale-like Eltz Castle, awaiting to be conquered over a stone bridge. After a trip back to the Middle Ages, the hiker plunges into splendid nature and marvels at the diverse nature of the river valley of the Elzbach and graceful crippled oak forests, bevore the Ringelstein Mill invites him to make a break. Refreshed, there is a magnificent but steep climb on which the hiker is repeatedly rewarded with beautiful views and which leads back on to the Mosel plateau.. Along the edge of the slope, past the Tholeisterhof, the trail continues into the tranquil valley of the Kern brook, which is followed by alternating woodland groves and open fields. Arriving again in Wierschem it is worth having a last look at the little St. Antony’s Chapel on the edge of the village.
Herrliche Aussichten auf den Hochflächen des Moselplateaus und stille Auenlandschaften entlang des sprudelnden Elzbaches treffen mit einem einzigartigen Kulturdenkmal zusammen: der Burg schlechthin – Burg Eltz!

Entlang schroffer Felsen bietet sich ein atemberaubender Blick auf die märchenhafte Burg Eltz, die sogleich über eine Steinbrücke erobert werden will. Nach dem Ausflug ins Mittelalter taucht der Wanderer wieder in die prachtvolle Natur ein und bestaunt das abwechslungsreiche Flusstal des Elzbaches und anmutige Krüppeleichenwälder, bevor die Ringelsteiner Mühle zur Einkehr einlädt. Frisch gestärkt folgt ein herrlicher aber steiler Aufstieg, der den Wanderer immer wieder mit schönen Aussichten belohnt und schließlich wieder auf das weite Moselplateau führt. An den Windschutzhecken des Tholeisterhofs vorbei, geht es weiter in das ruhige Tal des Kerner Bachs, auf das im Wechsel immer wieder kleine Wäldchen und weite Felder folgen. Wieder in Wierschem angelangt lohnt sich noch ein letzter Blick auf die kleine Antoniuskapelle am Ortsrand.

Mosel-Traumpfad Eltzer Burgpanorama (Eltz Castle Panorama Trail)
Marvellous views of the plains of the Mosel plateau and tranquil meadowlands along the bubbling Elzbach combine with a unique cultural monument: the castle per se – Eltz Castle!
Directly after starting from the village’s community centre in Wierschem the hiker can already enjoy the vast open expanse of the Mosel plateau. The trail climbs continuously along natural footpaths, and there is the final reward of a magnificent view of the deep-cut Elzbach valley and the Pyrmont Castle. Soon further on through Count Eltz’s Forest the Elzbach is reached, meandering in countless bends. Later the path joins the Mosel Heights Trail which initially takes the hiker through valley meadowlands and finally on to a hill.
Crossing rough rocks there is a breathtaking view of the fairytale-like Eltz Castle, awaiting to be conquered over a stone bridge. After a trip back to the Middle Ages, the hiker plunges into splendid nature and marvels at the diverse nature of the river valley of the Elzbach and graceful crippled oak forests, bevore the Ringelstein Mill invites him to make a break. Refreshed, there is a magnificent but steep climb on which the hiker is repeatedly rewarded with beautiful views and which leads back on to the Mosel plateau.. Along the edge of the slope, past the Tholeisterhof, the trail continues into the tranquil valley of the Kern brook, which is followed by alternating woodland groves and open fields. Arriving again in Wierschem it is worth having a last look at the little St. Antony’s Chapel on the edge of the village.

Im weiteren Verlauf verbindet sich der Pfad mit dem Moselhöhenweg, der den Wanderer zunächst durch eine Talaue und schließlich auf eine Anhöhe führt.
