A lineup of reclining chairs for tired shoppers to rest beside a juice bar at the Harbour Town shopping centre. From this side view, those blue bits look like a spinal vertebrae.

Multiple valleys come together in a tangle of rocky ridges sculpted by ice, water, and wind. The small vegetated plateau on the right was not glaciated during the Pleistocene, but shows subtle banding associated with freeze-thaw sorting of rocks by their size which occurred during the ice age. Note the vegetation has already taken on fall color- it's a short growing season above 12,000'.

Mystic Island Lake, shown in a recent post, is at the head of the valley on the right, with Eagle Peak the high point near the center of the frame. In the distance are a myriad of peaks in the southern Sawatch Range.

There is a lot less snow visible in this landscape than usual, even for this time of year. A low snow winter and warm summer melted many of the snowfields that often last year-round. Thankfully a wet summer from active monsoonal flow kept the fire danger low.

This beast is the underside of an upright high low chiropractic table with cervical drop (I know!). It's what I get for carrying 20 pounds of camera gear around with me all the time.

This image was the inspiration for the previous two images in my photostream: Spinal Cord and Spinal Tap.

Actually this this is the $3 million dollars sculpture "Seven Magic Mountains', by Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone. Located on Las Vegas Boulevard, but about 15-20 miles south of the strip. For me it begs a performance of Stonehenge, the legendary song my the equally legendary, and punctual band Spinal Tap.

Not the shot I was expecting to get and not 100% sure on it. I quite like the subtle spinal look and the way sea shadow almost looks like a tail on the end of the "spine". I only had one chance at this shot due to the tide, I might have another go at this tomorrow if it's not raining as the tide should be a bit kinder.

A quick sketch of a building in progress - I love how an ordinary mesh covering a construction site Frost Fence is enhanced with the architect's vision.

The sketch evokes a skeleton, a spine - but it also flows, floats upwards towards the sky, towards the other concrete peaks in my neighborhood.

Construction is proceeding briskly - whereas a few months ago this was just a hole in the ground, now there is a foundation of this striking building, and a few stories are already going up.
