Kicsit elbambultam és a flickr-es galériámat elhanyagoltam kicsit:(

Remélem azért még lézeng erre valaki:)

Mantises are exclusively predatory. They will only eat meat that they have caught themselves. Insects form the primary diet, but larger species have been known to prey on small scorpions, lizards, frogs, birds, snakes, fish, and even rodents; they will prey upon any species small enough to be successfully captured and devoured.

A second species! Didn't know this at the time, but thanks to help from dEsSiCaTa_UK on UKmantisforums.co.uk now know that this one is the African Mantis - key ID points are the white wing spot and plain pale inner forelegs. My previous post also has a stripe across the eye missing in this species. Have learnt a lot about mantids after posting these!

Adult Sphodromantis viridis (Giant African Mantis), Valencia, Spain. An introduced species from West Africa, which is becoming more common in Spain and Portugal.

Makuti, Zimbabwe.

Seen during a fuel stop on the way to Mana Pools. Not sure if it's a giant African Mantis, but it was quite big. Probably a female.

I saw this giant African mantis (Sphodromantis viridis) in our backyard this morning . The biggest mantis I've ever seen, she was easily 10cm long.
