The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 5th of March is “sphere on black”. Looking at the theme in my dining room, I immediately thought of the Art Deco column lamp standing atop a china cabinet next to me. A gift from my mother some Christmases ago, the chrome lamp has its original Art Deco spherical ornamental shade with its undulating geometric designs. I hope you like my choice of the theme this week, and that it makes you smile.

Large and small spheres and their reflections.

Technical info:

This is a one-exposure image of two spheres: a clear glass marble and a 3" crystal glass ball. The spheres were placed on a piece of aluminum sheet metal. The aluminum sheet was placed on a 24" x 24" piece of semi-translucent acrylic, which was in turn placed on top of a [pro]master VL1144 steady studio light aimed vertically up at the ceiling and used as a tabletop.

This is a sculpture called ‘Sphere’ by Rob Mulholland next to the Coquet Shorebase at Amble in Northumberland. It is part of a project known as The Bord Waalk (‘Bird Walk’, in the local accent), which is part of a new walking trail of public sculptures inspired by the bird-life found around the Amble coast.

HSS!

I made this, a sphere of tiny pages of words hanging by a thread.

With last week's theme about complementary colors/colours, I downloaded library books about art and hues. One book entitled Playing with Books, by Jason Thompson, caught my imagination for this week's theme. With the exception of slicing my finger with the x-acto knife, I simply followed Thompson’s brief instructions. And getting my old sewing machine to sew through paper layers.

I adore words and have written, edited, and done layouts as a career since forever.

Please note: Each circle comes from an obsolete book no one wanted: not libraries, used book donations, or charity. I used to think that books deserved a good home. Apparently we have too much of everything. As someone told me as I called around to check about donating clothes and books, We can’t take them, he said. No room. Next stop will be mulch for other purposes. Trees! That’s one reason I download online books.

Ultra wide angle pictures of beautiful metro stations

have become increasingly popular during the last years.

Up until now, this place has not been photographed

too often, and it is one of my personal favorites.
