‘The Zero Theorem’ by Director Terry Gilliam
I clearly remember taking the shot (on the left) and thinking ‘wow, what an amazing painterly sky… it would make a lovely canvas print for somebody’s living room’. Little did I know that less than a year later I’d be emailing this image to a Hollywood Visual Effects advisor for use in Terry Gilliam’s film ‘The Zero Theorem'.
After a tantalising ten-month wait for the cinema release, I finally got to see how the visual effects team had adapted the original image for the silver screen. It was impressive to say the least. The realisation that my photography was part of a production of this magnitude was incredible and almost hard to believe.
So, if you decide to immerse yourself in the weird and wonderful dystopian world of Gilliam’s latest theatrical film, look out for the sunset sky. After all, it appears in several scenes and it’s the only utopian setting throughout the movie so it should be easy to spot. Oh, and wait until you see the finale scene with Christoph Waltz!
-------------------------------------------
Stars of ‘The Zero Theorem’ include Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Thierry, David Thewlis, Lucas Hedges, Matt Damon, Ben Whishaw and Tilda Swinton amongst others. Terry Gilliam is probably most well-known for his work on Monty Python’s Flying Circus and films such as Brazil, Twelve Monkeys and Time Bandits.

-The illusions used in the film, television, theater, or entertainment industries to simulate the imagined events in a story are traditionally called special effects (a.k.a. SFX, SPFX, or simply FX).
Special effects are traditionally divided into the categories of optical effects and mechanical effects. With the emergence of digital film-making tools a greater distinction between special effects and visual effects has been recognized, with "visual effects" referring to digital post-production and "special effects" referring to on-set mechanical effects and in-camera optical effects.
The exquisite fusion of human form and vibrant pigments, revealing a stunning masterpiece that transcends traditional boundaries of art and fashion.
Made the suit himself. Very nice guy, open to questions. He even made a werewolf-baby and costume for his SO (and if she made it herself, my apologies!)
One of the special effects guys on a film set, we were burning a house for a television mini-series.
An exquisite fusion of art and beauty captured in a mesmerizing photograph, as a stunning model gracefully creates a vibrant masterpiece.
Here's the most complex special effects project I've done to date.
I've been working on for a couple of weeks off and on for several hours per day.
For several years, I've had the idea of animating a moving, old fashioned, reel-to-reel filmstrip with movies on each frame. I started to do this in earnest this month and kept with it for several days to get this final result.
The theme song is by a 1980s Canadian band called "Doug and the Slugs" -- "Making it work" -- this is how I felt when I was making this video over the past couple of weeks.
I admit that I've neglected posting much of any substance over the past couple of weeks, just because I've been concentrating on this.
I think I now have an idea of just why it takes 100s of people in special effects companies months and months to create an animated full length feature movie.
Enjoy!
This is an artsy special effects video that I made over a couple of days.
It's pretty basic, but I think the effect is very nice.
There was a lot of work that went into getting it just right.
For a while I was looking for another visual play on words to go along with the pokes at Apple I've been doing lately (e.g. EyeHell).
Since I work with computers a lot, there is a lot of talk about the Cloud and Cloud Computing.
I expanded my theme beyond Apple a bit since they don't own the Cloud exclusively.
(However, it could be argued that the glasses are for eyes, so it is a reference to the EyeCloud again...)

P.S. The jet plane flying over at the end was a complete random happenstance. Didn't plan that one at all, but I think it really adds to it.

#TrekWars: Something I worked on most of the day today, with some help from my brother-in-law Paul Eric, here in my micro-ILM-esque studio. Good way to stay inside and stay warm on a freezing day. Also a good way to piss off two (possibly three) groups of #scifi #geeks..... #StarTrek #StarWars #mashup #crossOver
