We too had a hot spell; not as hot as the rest of Europe. Pleasant enough for some to take a trip on the steamer on Ullswater.

It is time to break the spell
After a grey overcast spell of weather, it was great to see a bit of blue sky and a setting sun on my evening walk.
This is the view across the Lancashire Plain from the lower reaches of Beacon Fell. The path here drops down to Whitechapel and the River Brock which leads me back home! The sun is about to set beneath a low bank of cloud on the far horizon above the Fylde Coast and the Irish Sea.
I waited and walked along the beautiful black sand beach in front of this sea stack for a whole afternoon because of the stormy weather. I wanted something more dramatic than a grey sky. The light finally pierced the clouds for a few minutes right when I was leaving. The warm breeze coming from the ocean as the waves crashed higher and higher was really pleasant.

Taken today at Duncton near Chichester. Weather was cold after the long dry spell with thunder, lightning and torrential rain. Just a single shot of this beautiful but deadly plant. There was a lot more Foxgloves behind me in the forest but this one caught my eye because of the gate as an added feature.
Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea) is a poisonous plant that is possibly fatal if ingested by humans, cats, dogs and horses. The poisonous ingredient in foxglove is cardio glycosides, which can cause a heart attack. Also found in oleander, cardio glycosides most often are fatal for children and the elderly, who may also experience long-term side effects.
So remember next time you are out in the forest and you are hungry don't eat this one.

We had a few days cold spell and the night frost had decorated many small plants which I could see along my morning walk. This modest looking plant with hoar frost decoration is the common nettle, which can be considered as an annoying weed or a useful food source depending on the point of view. Urtica dioica, often called common nettle or stinging nettle (although not all plants of this species sting), is a herbaceous perennial flowering plant, native to Europe, Asia, northern Africa, and North America, and is the best-known member of the nettle genus Urtica. Nettle soup is a common use of the plant, particularly in Northern and Eastern Europe. I have eaten nettle soup, and it is tasty, comparable to spinach soup.

I found this appropriate for this image as it was captured at Sunset in the Winter in Monument Valley. The single spire on the right is called Totem Pole and the group to the left are called " Yei Bi Chei ".
When you are in the valley, away from the crowds, there is an overwhelming calm that settles over you, add the warm afternoon light and a cold Winter breeze and you have a recipe for beautiful.
