I’m certain most of you landscape guys out there will recognize this popular scene as Kanarra Falls. This place is heavily photographed for a good reason, it is absolutely stunning and I couldn’t wait to point my camera at it, even though many others have done the same and better.

I’m ashamed to admit that I have never spent any time exploring Southern Utah. It seems that every time an eight hour drive for vacation comes up, I have always decided to visit the coast.

Last weekend, three of us, myself, my cousin and my brother-in-law decided to rectify that situation. We made a speed run down to visit Zion NP, Bryce NP and points between. I took it all in.. slickrock, cactus, bristlecone and orange sun on red earth. I can’t wait to go back!

If you've ever taken a long family road trip, you know that there's a point at which you just need some quiet zen time.

Along US 395 near Janesville, CA, between Reno and the Lassen National Forest and Volcanic National Park, there is a rest stop near the edge of Honey Lake. I've traveled this road twice in my life, and both times I've stopped here. The first trip was a solo cross-country speed run in the spring, moving from one Navy posting to another. The second was a winter holiday road trip with my family. I think this scene resonated more on the second road trip.

I suspect this half-speed run was more hareobic exercise than anything else

I was waiting for a wagtail to reappear when this very large Buck hare shot round the corner Looked at me for a few moments and then shot off again . I have no idea who was most shocked but I just had time for a couple of shots before he vanished . .

The shot was taken somewhere in Greece

Nicknamed the Silver Streak, the Pioneer Zephyr was an ultimately failed attempt to save the passenger rail industry as Americans moved to individual motor vehicles. With its streamlined body and Art Deco style, it offered a new level of speed and comfort when it began service in 1934. Using new diesel-electric engine technology, innovative construction to reduce weight, and a lower center of gravity, it was able to complete a speed run from Denver to Chicago in 13 hours; the famous "Dawn-to-Dusk" speed run of May 26, 1934.

Well here is an odd couple to find on my way to work in the rain this morning . The Question is wild Boar or escaped pig ? These were photographed on Romney Marsh in n area were Wild Boar are known to exist . Beyond that I do not know , the truth is that wild Boar in England are all from escaped or released animals if you could go back enough generations . The EXIF is well worth a look ;¬)

Be extra careful as you approach corners or blind spots when driving in the Rocky Mountains. Some wildlife are on the roads. Here a Hoary Marmot ventured out to lick the natural salt deposits on the asphalt. As a vehicle approached he high tailed it back to the safety of the ditch. My heart was in my throat thinking I might see something terrible happen to him, but all ended well on this day.

After spotting this train arriving at Three Forks for a crew change we made a high-speed run to this place. We didn't quite have enough time to set up to get over the pole forest but caught a great sucker hole. Good with the bad. slow Kodachrome 25 film didn't help much either.

"Reports of Imperials moving closer towards the position of our outpost came in this morning, so my men and I were sent to patrol the area. Actually, it was more of a hunt, a high speed run and search through the woods to make sure the distance between the Imperials and the outpost would shrink as little as possible. And then we would find them, and send the approximate coordinates of their whereabouts back to the base so they'd be taken out in time. Or so we hoped..."

Another Star Wars MOC from me, and this time it's Endor, with my all-new Rebel Soldier figures making full use of it. This creation was partially inspired by the recent game, Battlefront.

In other news: I've recently finished my final exams, and summer vacation has started for me, so I'll have plenty of time to create a lot more things now. And yes, that was one of the main reasons I've been absent for a while. Got quite a few big Bricklink orders coming in as well, so I'm looking forward to using those fresh new parts.

But for now, enjoy this one!

Early in the morning the power was cut from its train at Livingston and set on a full speed run up Bozeman Pass by persons unknown. The dispatcher lined the runaway through West End siding where all landed as you see it. The mainline was unaffected and surprisingly trains began moving soon after.

The copious exhaust fumes were the result of a high-speed run, followed by unexpected slow running, then opening up again to enter the station, causing this clearout of soot that had accumulated in the exhaust system.

Built for SHIPtember 2022.

This one was a bit of a speed run, with building and photography all taking place within the span of 4 hours (including lunch!) on the last day of September.

It was an interesting experience, especially for my first SHIPtember. I'll probably actually allocate more time to it next year. That, or speedrunning SHIPtember might just become my thing. We'll see.

They had cut this corn yesterday and as I drove past on my way home there stood a Hare in the centre of the field . I got up a little early this morning and parked my car a some way away and sure enough there were four Hares in the field . As I sat quietly this was the bravest one who got so close at one point he passed me at less than 9 feet ( 2.74 meters)

As the light gets better, the pair of SD70AC's glistening in the sun as CSX Q541-26 (Cincinnati,OH-Waycross,GA) passes the now empty lot of the once stood Oldwood Lumber Yard in Ranger, GA. As the manifest continue it's high speed run south down the Etowah Sub, the train will have to come to a stop at North Yard to do a pick up, and drop off, and once more to pick up a GE motor that was set-off by V117-26 on the W&A side of Junta Yard.

37611 is seen coupled to 180104 in Hitchin Down Yard, waiting to depart as 7Z18 to Crofton Depot.

Loco haulage of a 180 is an unusual sight, and over long distances the 40mph maximum speed restriction on the adapter coupler means it is generally avoided wherever possible.

However, when 180104 failed at Biggleswade on the evening of Sunday 22 July it became apparent that the nature of the fault would prevent it being assisted home by another Class 180 or repaired prior to returning North. The unit was recovered off the mainline with 180103 from Biggleswade to Langley Lafarge at 5mph, but whilst clear of the mainline the need to run aggregates traffic into the terminal meant a further move was required. A few days later LNER 'thunderbird' 67014 was hired to drag the unit to Hitchin Down Yard (via Hertford North to run round) to await recovery to Crofton.

With the assistance of Rail Operations Group the unit was finally recovered in the early hours of Thursday 02 August and hauled back to Crofton via Lincoln to avoid a slow speed run up the ECML.

High speed run, full-stop. Snacktime. Arizona, US.

Running full pelt toward me makes me very glad they have good brakes and as I said before they have a top speed of up to 45 mph this one stopped , looked at me and hopped off into the wheat field . I did however have a moment when I thought he may not stop !

Beautiful Camargue horses.

On my last weekend in Japan I wanted to visit Kyoto, so we took the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Yokohama to there. It was a fast and smooth ride, much like being on an airliner. The Shinkansen maximum speeds run 150–200 mph (240–320 km/h).

Falco Peregrinus on a high speed run

The place between Bylot and Baffin Islands where ice and water meet, the floe edge, was a bird super highway in June, with a variety of species transiting along the line. Thick-billed Murre was the most abundant, with Eiders (King and Common), Fulmars, and Kittiwakes the next most numerous. Special treats were jaegers (all three species, including big flocks of Long-tailed), and Purple Sandpipers and Red Phalaropes.

When we first arrived on June 6 there was a clean break between ice and water and we could approach the edge pretty closely. East winds over the next couple days blew in masses of loose and unwalkable pack ice, pushing us back a bit farther from the water. This Northern Fulmar is making a high speed run past our viewing spot, cruising over the jumbled, windblown debris jammed up against our more stable platform of thick, shorefast ice.

Recently restored USSC/FEC 148 performs a run-by in the Sugar Cane fields near Lake Harbor for the FEC Historical Society. This was part of a charter run from Clewiston to Marcy and back.

The "exhilarating track-speed run-by" was performed at about 15-20 mph. No complaints from me though; it was still very impressive.

Looking every bit like some of the over/under arrangements that are common on basement model railroad layouts, Grand Canyon Railway #29 comes cruising under the BNSF overpass at the north end of the Williams Yard, just as an eastbound freight charges overhead.

The Grand Canyon Railway is an old Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway branch line, so it should not surprise viewers that multiple main lines of the present-day BNSF run right through the Williams Yard. This particular overpass, just north of the GCRX shops has two tracks and is extremely busy. So when the 2019 Trains Magazine Charter attempted to set up an over/under shot including the #29 on her last day in service, it wasn't difficult to do. For this particular shot, the 29 was staged in position, and a freight was there literally within a minute or two. Just moments later, the 29 backed up for a higher speed run-by, and another freight came charging past just as she came through the tunnel, this time on the far track, going westbound. Although the bottoms of the wheels on the BNSF units weren't visible, the serendipitous timing amazed everyone. During the day, freights seem to pass over this bridge about every 5-10 minutes.
