After months of speculation the announcement of snap elections by the Greek prime minister, Kostas Karamanlis last week has seen a flurry of campaigning activity amongst the country's main political parties who are rushing to get their campaign for October 4th parliamentary elections underway.

Last night leader of the Greek communist party (KKE) Aleka Papariga addressed the party faithful at a rally in the northern port city of Thessaloniki. She said that the party, which currently has 22 MPs in the 300 seat Greek parliament offered a chance for voters to reject the failed policies of both the ruling conservative, New Democracy party and their socialist rivals, PASOK.

"Hannah Courtoy (1784 - 26 January 1849), born Hannah Peters, was a London society woman who inherited a fortune from the merchant John Courtoy in 1815. Her distinctive Egyptian-style mausoleum in London's Brompton Cemetery has been the subject of considerable curiosity and speculation ever since a report by Reuters in 1998 repeated claims that it contained a working time machine.

"Hannah Courtoy was born Hannah Peters in 1784. She never married but had three daughters, Mary Ann (1801), Elizabeth (1804-1876), and Susannah (1807-1895). In 1830, Susannah married Septimus Holmes Godson, a barrister of Gray's Inn.

"In 1815, Courtoy inherited a fortune from the elderly merchant John Courtoy (born Nicholas Jacquinet in France, 1709) through a Will that was disputed in court.

"Courtoy's distinctive Egyptian-style mausoleum of 1854[9] in Brompton Cemetery, where her unmarried daughters Elizabeth and Mary Ann are also interred, has been the subject of considerable curiosity ever since a report by Reuters in 1998[10] reported on rumours that it might be or contain a working time machine, a speculation that has been fuelled by various articles written by the musician Stephen Coates of the band The Real Tuesday Weld."

"Brompton Cemetery is a London cemetery in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. It is managed by The Royal Parks, and is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries. Established by Act of Parliament and erected in 1839, it opened in 1840 and was originally known as the West of London and Westminster Cemetery.

"Consecrated by Charles James Blomfield, the Bishop of London in June 1840, it is one of Britain's oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. Some 35,000 monuments, from simple headstones to substantial mausolea, mark the resting place of more than 205,000 burials. The site includes large plots for family mausolea, and common graves where coffins are piled deep into the earth, as well as a small columbarium. There is also a secluded Garden of Remembrance at the northern end, for cremated remains. It is also an urban haven for nature.

"By the early years of the 19th century, inner city burial grounds, mostly churchyards, had long been unable to cope with the number of burials and were seen as a hazard to health and an undignified way to treat the dead. In 1837 a decision was made to lay out a new burial ground in Brompton, London. The moving spirit behind the project was the engineer, Stephen Geary, and it was necessary to form a company in order to get parliamentary permission to raise capital for the purpose. Securing the land – some 40 acres – from local landowner, Lord Kensington and the Equitable Gas Light Company, as well as raising the money proved an extended challenge. The cemetery became one of seven large, new cemeteries founded by private companies in the mid-19th century (sometimes called the 'Magnificent Seven') forming a ring around the edge of London."

Apparently there is a need for three Swedish magazines about poker. Unfortunately I found them at the local supermarket and not the library so I couldn't check out what was written in them. How much is there to write about poker? I'm totally perplexed.

It is a huge speculation that Canon’s IXUS is all about style and nothing about substance. Well, maybe your opinion will change after the new Canon IXUS 115 HS which has a huge amount to offer. Not to be underestimated is that it's an IXUS, so it's well built, looks stunning and is super-compact. For the given price, the offered 4x zoom range is nothing more than adequate, but if you don't go in for panoramic landscapes or wildlife photography, that will be no loss and 4x is good enough to help frame the vast majority of 'everyday' shots.View Image of Canon Ixus 115 Hs The exact dimensions of Canon IXUS 115 HS measure 93 mm x 56 mm x 20mm and the device measures 140 grams including card and battery.

very interesting grave marker of Thomas Toberman in the historic Prairie du Chien Evergreen cemetery. There is a lot of speculation about this unusual-looking stone and its origins. Whether the marker is a meteorite, a rare stone formation, or something else…no one knows

Before dying, Mr. Toberman requested that this unusual rock be used as his headstone in the cemetery. Permission was requested from the Evergreen cemetery board to place the stone. After permission was denied because it wasn’t a “real” engraved marker, it mysteriously showed up on his plot the following week.

Meteorite?

According to an article published in a local newspaper (the Courier Press) a few decades ago, the marker is a meteorite that fell as a fireball on the deceased’s farm when he lived in the Prairie du Chien area. From the looks of it, it is easy to imagine that it came from outerspace and became deeply pitted as it burned through earth’s atmosphere.

Meteor-wrong?

Another theory is that it is a rare stone formation that can only be found in 2 or 3 places in the world (the St. Croix valley in Wisconsin, someplace in China, and possibly someplace in Arizona). This theory is that it is made of limestone that was eroded into its current shape by swirling vortices of water. According to this story, Mr. Toberman discovered the rock in the St. Croix River valley while working there as a lumberjack.

The 273 of 6-1-13 found them pulling into Davis Junction to make a setout.

On this day in history in 1797 - the Bank of England became insolvent.

Speculation in the USA and elsewhere particularly speculation in land created a bubble, and financing wars at that time in Europe against the French, then striking terror into the British. This cost the UK the government hugely with paper money printed with wild abandon but no gold behind it. The government was over-spending, national debt was soaring, and there was financial impropriety and loss of control.

The crisis in the UK came to a head when fears of an imminent French invasion led to a demand for gold, redeeming paper money and loans for the gold supposedly behind them. There were even very strong rumours that the French had invaded Ireland. Many British and foreign holders of such paper notes became keen to exchange them for precious metal.

The reaction of the government, agreed by the Privy Council in an emergency meeting on this day, was to pass The Bank Restriction Act, which came into force on May 3rd that year. The act prevented paper money holders from demanding specie in exchange. The bank was effectively insolvent, and the urgent measure was designed to prevent that being tested. This was a temporary move, but it stayed until 1821.

This, and other measures, saved the country’s currency from ruin but it is estimated to have depreciated by 30 per cent while the Bank Restriction Act was in force, a factor in the post-Napoleonic Depression and social unrest in the country.

Santayana’s dictum that those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it springs to mind. Whoever could imagine such a banking crisis being allowed to happen again?

I recently was doing some research and learned some interesting concepts I hadn't heard before. Many people don't know that the devil had been an angel before being thrown out of heaven forcibly, and sent to earth. There is speculation that he was actually a cherub, which isn't the cute, cuddly angelic child we picture, but rather a sort of guardian angel. The speculation was that his charge had actually been the earth and mankind! When pride entered his heart and he fell from grace, he still roamed the earth, banned from heaven, but instead of protecting us, his new mission was to destroy what God loved, mankind, in order to hurt God! What a twist of events!

Recently I've also experienced a weird twisting that is going on in some churches, as well. I guess it should be expected, since the bible talks about it, and says there will be a great falling away before the end, and that if the days weren't shortened, even the very elect would fall! Pretty grim comment, I must say! What does that say about our culture, and how it has permeated even the church, breaking down society's moral structure, and fulfilling the prophecy that said in the last days people would call good evil and evil good? In 40 years time, I've watched it happen. Something as innocuous as saying, "That's really BAD, man!" when you meant something was really, really good, may not seem like much, but from the 60's on, this was how things went; a subtle twisting at first, until society, and even the church, was ready to accept things that were rarely accepted as being the status quo.

In my own family, I watched as a marriage of nearly 17 years fell apart, and the deception, which started within the church we were going to, took apart my brother's family! It was a call to arms for me. That "cherub" in the garden of Eden has been quite active lately, wreaking havoc wherever he can, knowing that the days are short, and much devastation must occur before he runs out of time.

We have a great hope, though. The Lord said, "Greater is He who is in you, than he who is in the world." He spoke of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who lives in all who accept Jesus as Lord of their lives. He will guide us through the difficult times ahead, which no doubt will be worse than in the beginning of Christianity. As much as God loves, Satan hates. We need not fear, though, because our God is an awesome God, and He is well acquainted with Lucifer and his ways, even if we aren't. That's no cherub in the garden. It's still a snake!

There are a lot of discussions and speculations about this plane on the internet. It seems this plane is a very mysterious one.

Some information from the internet:

Along the lines of secret bases, there are organizations of a somewhat spooky nature based at rather ordinary facilities. [AKA, hiding in plain site.]

FEST is the Foreign Emergency Support Team.

Now delving into grayer areas, it seems that there are some civilian 757's that might also be associated with FEST. Investigations into "extraordinary rendition" revealed a number of civilian aircraft used by the CIA. But it isn't clear that all the aircraft in the investigation were used for snatching suspected terrorists. Probably only the business jets were used for that function. Two civilian 757s turned up, namely N610G and N226G.

Of course there is no proof these planes are part of FEST. They might have other spooky functions.

But the internet rumors don't stop here. Some people believe that these civilian 757s are really the USAF C-32Bs with quick paint jobs. It isn't exactly likely to find all these planes parked together somewhere and prove that rumor invalid, but here again, nobody is provided proof positive N610G or N226G are really Earl Shibe conversions of the USAF jets.

Now to top it off, and I can't reveal my source, but N610G was recently at the Tonopah Test Range.
