Harrods is a department store specializing in luxury goods on Brompton Road in London 's Knightsbridge district . Outside the department store, the Harrods group also includes a bank (Harrods Bank) , a real estate company (Harrods Estate) and an airline company (Air Harrods) .
In 1835 , Charles Henry Harrod, a tea and grocery wholesaler , started a shop opposite his residence in Stepney in London's East End . Worried about a cholera epidemic in London, he moved to the then quiet Brompton Road in 1849 to take over a grocery business. His trade also grew along with the neighborhood and he included the adjacent buildings in his business.
The current owner is Qatar Holding , the investment fund of the Royal Family of Qatar . The holding company bought the department store from Mohamed Al-Fayed in 2010 for about 1.8 billion euros. [1]

I had to look twice when I saw this little white-breasted nuthatch today, since I thought my mind way playing tricks on me. However, this photo shows that my hunch was right - this nuthatch has crossed mandibles. I watched it for a while and it appeared normal otherwise and had no apparent problems with feeding. Maybe it will specialize in prying pine cones open like the white-winged crossbills do😊

Stuyvesant High School, commonly known as Stuy, is a New York City public high school that specializes in mathematics and science. Is is named after Peter Stuyvesant, the last Dutch governor of New Netherland before the ownership of the colony was transferred to England in 1664.
The school was established in 1904 as a manual training school for boys, hosting 155 students and 12 teachers. In 1907, it moved from its original location at 225 East 23rd Street to a building designed by C.B.J. Snyder at 345 East 15th Street, where it remained for the following 85 years. Its reputation for excellence in math and science continued to grow, and enrollment was restricted based on previous scholastic achievement starting in 1919. In the 1930s, entrance examinations were implemented, making admission to the school even more competitive.
In 1969, 14 girls were admitted to Stuyvesant and 12 enrolled at the start of September, marking the school's first co-educational year. Now, approximately 43% of students are female.
In 1972, Brooklyn Tech, Bronx Science, Stuyvesant and Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts were chosen by the New York State Legislature as specialized high schools of New York City. The act called for a uniform exam to be administered for admission to Brooklyn Tech, Bronx Science and Stuyvesant High School. The exam, named the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT), tested students in math and verbal abilities. Admission to LaGuardia High School was by audition rather than examination, in keeping with its artistic mission.
By the 1980s, the East 15th Street building was no longer a quality educational facility by modern standards. So The New York City Board of Education secured an agreement with the Battery Park City Authority for a new building, and construction began in 1989. The new ten-floor building, located near lower Manhattan
You might think this was taken from a tour boat specializing in whale watching. But you would be wrong. This was taken through the open window of my truck camper parked near the seashore.
These humpback whales were after capelin. You can see five here in this shot and two more just submerged slightly out of frame ... but that was just a few of these huge creatures that were in this area all day. It was a truly mesmerizing scene and very few besides us ... if any ... were privileged to see it!
As I mentioned in an earlier post, these whales have a special stretchy tissue called ventral groove blubber attached to their lower jaw or mandible. When they lower their jaws to extreme angles and swim very quickly while feeding on small fish and krill, a drag force on this blubber causes it to expand to encompass a volume that can be almost as big as the whale itself. The jaws ... as far as I an tell from the shots I took ... open at least ninety degrees and when they surface like they are doing here they quickly snap them shut ... while the water they have taken in pours out in a torrent. Some of the small capelin do too, of course ... hence the gulls in the area.
The two in the middle here are showing their upper jaw and their pink tongue. Their lower jaws are still under the water ... but you can actually the one on the left starting to close. So, you see why I say they open ninety degrees. The whale on the right is showing its lower jaw and if you look closely you can see the brown barnacles.
It has been slow at the stream the last few days.
I think i know why.

Accipiter cooperii.
Life is tricky for male Cooper’s Hawks. As in most hawks, males are significantly smaller than their mates. The danger is that female Cooper’s Hawks specialize in eating medium-sized birds. Males tend to be submissive to females and to listen out for reassuring call notes the females make when they’re willing to be approached. Males build the nest, then provide nearly all the food to females and young over the next 90 days before the young fledge.

Carrer : Professional Photographer (specializes in nature photos)
Salary: U$ 20.000 - U$ 25.000 per month (average)
Place: Currently is working in Brazil
What Success means to me:
Success isn't everything on my life it is a consequence of my hard work, let me explain:
My father had a camera, it weren't that good, but weren't too bad. them I started to use it, taking pictures of the nature, (flowers, trees, insects) and post on the internet. Whem I started, I didn't had too much hability
Over the years, my photos were getting better, slowly, I was taking courses in editing photos (to give a more professional touch to them) them my pictures where getting better and better.
Then, someone invited me to enter in pitcures contest, where, with deeply effort, dedication and care, I was hired by a company.
I want to meam, that for me, the most important thing on my life, isn't success, it is hard work and dadication, give you heart to all the pictures.
Success is a consequence that can be benign or not, if you don't know how to handle it.
You can't wait the "sucess" fall from the sky, you need to search for it, if you really want, I searched for it, studied, practiced, did everything possible and impossible, look where I am now! Look how my pictures were, and look how they are now.
Success is achieved by overcoming obstacles, challenges, overcoming the insurmountable and NEVER forgot to belive on yourself, belive that can do everything you want, I belive in you!
I do not know if I expressed it correctly, if you have any doubts about what I wrote, please leave a comment..
I wrote with the highest security possible,
Thank you very much for your comprehencion.
Ashley Wiliams and Carolina Brum (Carol Parvati)
ps.: the litlle history above, is based in my real history, but I didn't started taking pictures of the nature, I started taking pictures of my Bratz dolls, the rest is all true, except the fact "wired by a company", but maybe it can become true! why not?
ps²: Why I chose photographer for Ashley: it is my true talent, and I made Ashley's personality very close to mine. I love to take picture, it is my own lifestyle.
the little picture on Ashley's picture are old pictures that I did without use too much edition and pictures with natural background
ps³: Did you see my last pictures? aren't they better?
I'm giving my all to do amazing pictures, not only for that contest, I'm showing all my creativity, to finish this contest with the "gold key". I KNOW THAT I CAN DO IT!! :D:D:D
This photograph captures the entrance of a small eatery in Bari, Italy, specializing in traditional Italian street food. The wooden double doors are painted with colorful illustrations of food items and vibrant red text. Above the doors, a sign reads "Rosticceria - Focacceria - Friggitoria," indicating the shop offers roasted, baked, and fried delicacies. The name "L'Arte Della Focaccia 2 Dirello" is prominently displayed, emphasizing its focus on the art of making focaccia. The hand-painted food illustrations and text on the doors showcase the specialties offered, such as focacce, panzerotti, rustici, arancini, and calzoni, evoking a sense of local culinary tradition.
The dishes advertised are quintessential elements of Puglian cuisine. Focaccia, a specialty in Bari, is a soft, thick bread often topped with tomatoes, olives, and a drizzle of olive oil, offering a delightful mix of crisp and fluffy textures. Panzerotti, another regional favorite, are crescent-shaped turnovers filled with ingredients like mozzarella, tomato sauce, or ham, then fried to perfection. These handheld snacks are beloved for their rich, savory filling encased in a golden crust.
The menu also features rustici and arancini. Rustici are puff pastry circles filled with béchamel sauce, mozzarella, and tomato, baked until flaky and golden. Arancini, on the other hand, are fried rice balls typically stuffed with ragù, peas, and cheese, forming a crispy exterior with a creamy, flavorful interior. Lastly, calzoni—similar to pizza but folded—are filled with various ingredients, such as ricotta, ham, or spinach, and baked or fried to seal in the flavors. These dishes reflect the region's rich culinary heritage, offering locals and visitors a taste of Bari’s street food culture.

The Cloisters is a museum in Upper Manhattan, New York City specializing in European medieval architecture, sculpture and decorative arts. Its collection grew from that of American sculptor, art dealer and collector George Grey Barnard, whose foundations were acquired by John D. Rockefeller, Jr. in 1925. Rockefeller extended the collection and in 1931 purchased land at Washington Heights and contracted the design for a new building. The museum is today part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Its architectural and artistic works divide between the Romanesque and Gothic styles. Its four cloisters -known as the Cuxa, Bonnefont, Trie and Saint-Guilhem cloisters- come from French monasteries and abbeys. Between 1934 and 1939 they were excavated and reconstructed in Washington Heights, in a large project overseen by the architect Charles Collens. They are surrounded by a series of indoor chapels and rooms grouped by period which include the Romanesque, Fuentidueña, Unicorn, Spanish and Gothic rooms. The design, layout and ambiance of the building is intended to evoke in visitors a sense of the Medieval European monastic life through its distinctive architecture. The area around the buildings contains a number of reconstructed early medieval gardens.
The Cloisters is a well-known New York City landmark and has been used as a filming location a number of times. In 1948, the experimental filmmaker Maya Deren used its ramparts as a backdrop for her experimental film Meditation on Violence. In the same year, German director William Dieterle used the Cloisters as the location for a convent school in his film Portrait of Jennie. The 1968 film Coogan's Bluff used the site for the scene of a shoot-out.
Mathieu Stern is a YouTuber that specializes in finding weird lenses to adapt to a mirrorless camera. I stumbled across an episode that showcased a lens that I have. I was inspired to rummage around in my drawer of forgotten lenses an run outside to take a few photos with this just barely useful lens adapter. According to the video this lens was used as the red lens that was HAL 9000. For this photo the lens is mounted on a Canon FD 50mm f1.4. The adapter has aperture blades that are stopped to f16. The 50mm lens is set to f1.4.

Sarolta Bán specializes in digital photo manipulation and did a project last year called: "Help Dogs with Images." The purpose of the project was to bring attention to shelter animals that otherwise would not find families.
I have been inspired by her work for some time and have really loved her photo manipulations of animals. I decided to attempt my own version of one of her photos. BACK TO THE EDO JIDAI! / WARP STATION EDO / ワープステーション江戸
You will be time-warped from the present back into the Edo period and experience life as it was then through a variety of multimedia presentations.
All Japanese may feel the most Edo-like atmosphere in the downtown section.
Accommodations, restaurants, and boats on a canal, everything is a picturesque view. I was excited too. An alley among houses also has congenial atmosphere.
I imagined old Japanese walking through the alley and felt like I was a time traveler.

I do not have any specialization or unique theme in my photography. I love shooting street candid but I also shoot landscape, macro, abstract, long exposure, infrared, cityscape, B&W, still life and all sorts of things.
I think this could be a problem for me to develop a personal style may be?
This is a macro shot taken in 2010. I love these lantern flowers.
Have a great Friday and great weekend!
Took my macro lens and went out to the front yard of my neighbors. Looking for macro subject.
This is what I called lantern flower.
Please tell me its real name if you know it. Thanks to Jess. Its real name is Physalis alkekengi or naked named Chinese lantern, winter cherry.
It is like glowing in the sun shade. I turned on the vivid color mode on my Nikon D300 and made it glows more like a piece of gold.
I love macro a lot. Please feel free to comment on my other macro shots.
