Great Beds Light is a "sparkplug" lighthouse in Raritan Bay in South Amboy, Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.
After the slight oil spill I did a bit more cleaning, replaced the sparkplug wires and tighten up the alternator belt.

I know this may seem like odd subject matter, I was just really drawn to their shapes and the way they caught the light. They're old and dirty, taken out of my dad's motorcycle. But still very sculptural.
This is an old tiller that's become more "yard art" than a gardening tool... I used to put in a garden every year - not really because I thought I could get much to eat out of it - mostly just because I love to piddle around in it, pulling weeds, smelling the fresh earth, watching things grow and change.. There's something wonderful about a whole row of corn growing thick and green, and the way plants bloom and set fruit... But in this part of the country, farming means ya gotta have power tools to break up the soil, because we have what's called "gumbo" soil. It has a high clay content, which means when it's wet, it turns slick and sticky - and when it dries, it turns hard as stone and really can't be turned with a shovel..
Anyway, I haven't had the time to put a garden in for quite a few years now, and it shows... A mechanic would have no trouble at all looking at this and seeing that this machine would never start with a spark plug that looks like that.. He'd poke his finger at it, wipe his oily hands and drawl - "Well, there's yer problem right there!"
Lately, I've felt a lot like this old machine... All the parts are still there, but some of 'em are all rusted and stuck together, and the result is that I just can't seem to get started...

So I thought, "well shit, I don't have another plug with me...and I don't think I have a plug wrench anyway...".
So I decided to take the plug connector thing (which usually sits between the end of the cable and the plug itself) off and see if I could convince the cable itself to just sort of perch on top of the remains of the broken plug.
Amazingly, this 'repair' lasted ALL THE WAY HOME. I stopped once at the top of greenlake to push the cable back on as it had backed off a little. The voltage meter I have on the bike read high the whole trip, I assume because the connection was not ideal, but the bike performed normally.
Once home I put in a new plug and it is good as new.
But really. WTF?!

The Robbins Reef Light is a sparkplug lighthouse that dates from 1883 (replacing a light that was built in 1839). It is very close to Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey. I was able to see a number of lighthouses in New York Harbor this trip. On board the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas for the Seven Night Labadee & Puerto Plata Cruise (November 6th through 13th, 2022). The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayonne, NJ) with stops at Labadee, Haiti and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic before heading back to New York City. The itinerary changed after Hurricane Nicole canceled our planned stops.
And his Jeep regularly served as his work bench too. Those are ten of an R-3350 engine's sparkplugs.

The only thing I don't like is that the Koss ear buds (which are so much better than others I've tried in the same price range) are white. What's with that? I don't like white (hence the color fest here).
Although I find it a but annoying to go from a 3G 15GB iPod to a Shuffle, I'm happy with it. After all, my 3G one won't hold a charge for more than an hour now and I got the Shuffle free, so I can't complain at all. I do like how light it is. The only drawback it has is not being able to see what song is playing or change to a specifc song.
DSC_6043.....Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse. This light, made in the "spark plug" style, sits on a breakwater by a main channel into Portland Harbor. Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse was built in 1898.
The Cube's engine is running very rough at idle. I suspected a dud spark plug, so I had to take a look.

nrhp # 87001530- Butler Flats Light, New Bedford, Massachusetts is a sparkplug lighthouse located in the New Bedford outer harbor, at the mouth of the Acushnet River. It is currently operated by the City of New Bedford. The lighthouse is not open to the public, but is easily visible from the shore along East Rodney French Boulevard in New Bedford as well as other points along the city's waterfront.
