This big, agressive hummingbird is widespread in the Andes from Venezuela to northern Argentina. I captured this particular individual moments after seeing another hummingbird that made him angry. Hacienda El Bosque, Colombia
I went to the park early before work yesterday and the plants were being watered so I was lucky to get this sparkly shot.
Ploughing through the snow, it is hard work getting to the grass, morning sun made the snow to sparkle like stardust.

Nuestras mariposas
Hay almas tan puras, tan desnudas, que no tienen necesidad de decírnoslo todo. Bastan unas pocas palabras fútiles para gritar lo que arde en su interior. Estas almas, demasiado raras, están hechas de una magia tal que cuando se van, su ausencia nos empuja, esclavos de nuestras propias mariposas pululando en el fondo del vientre a buscarlas constantemente en cada uno.

A flooded gravel pit near Erlabrunn, Germany. In summer, people go there to swim, sunbathe and barbecue. A Baggersee is, in a way, a German beach.

Subalpine Fleabane, Mount Rainier National Park, Washington
There were quite a few of these lovely light purple flowers dotting the meadows and lining the edges of Crystal Lake on Saturday. There was one right next to the rock I was sitting on at the lake so I thought I would be lazy and try take a photo of it without getting up from relaxing with my feet in the water! I was taking the shots from above and after the first couple of photos, noticed that having the rippling water in the background rather than the grass made for a rather pretty sparkle effect behind the flower.
