Au-dessus d’un océan infini de nuages, une cité interstellaire gigantesque s’élève entre le ciel et les étoiles, suspendue dans une altitude où l’horizon semble appartenir à un autre monde. La lumière d’un soleil lointain traverse les masses nuageuses et enveloppe les architectures monumentales d’une clarté ivoire et dorée, tandis que les profondeurs de la mégalopole disparaissent sous une mer de brume.
D’immenses structures urbaines émergent des nuages comme les vestiges encore vivants d’une civilisation devenue maîtresse du ciel. Des tours vertigineuses, élancées et irrégulières, percent l’atmosphère à différentes distances. Entre elles s’étendent de gigantesques passerelles habitées, véritables artères suspendues reliant les quartiers de la cité à travers le vide. Dans le ciel circulent plusieurs vaisseaux aux silhouettes différentes, chacun conçu selon sa fonction et son origine. Certains glissent silencieusement entre les tours, d’autres émergent des nuages ou disparaissent vers les quartiers lointains. Leurs propulseurs diffusent de discrètes lueurs bleues et leurs coques portent les traces d’une technologie utilisée, entretenue et véritablement habitée. Aucun appareil ne doit sembler dupliqué : chaque vaisseau possède sa propre identité mécanique.
Au premier plan, une vaste terrasse panoramique domine la cité. Elle forme un jardin suspendu où architecture futuriste et végétation extraterrestre coexistent harmonieusement. Des arbres délicats aux floraisons rosées, des plantes aux formes inhabituelles et quelques sculptures organiques accompagnent les courbes de la plateforme. Une foule cosmopolite composée d’humains, d’androïdes et d’êtres venus de mondes différents s’y rassemble paisiblement. Les silhouettes varient en taille, morphologie, vêtements et origine, évoquant un carrefour où des civilisations étrangères les unes aux autres ont appris à partager le même horizon.
Au centre de cette terrasse s’élève une présence holographique féminine faite de lumière cyan translucide. Sa silhouette élégante naît d’un socle circulaire technologique et semble composée de filaments lumineux, de particules et de constellations numériques. Autour de sa tête flottent plusieurs anneaux concentriques d’énergie bleue, fins et parfaitement lumineux. Elle ne domine pas la foule comme une divinité : elle apparaît plutôt comme la conscience paisible de la cité, une intelligence gardienne accueillant silencieusement ceux qui arrivent des étoiles.
Très loin derrière les tours, une planète immense apparaît partiellement dans le ciel, presque perdue dans la lumière atmosphérique. Sa présence doit rester subtile, majestueuse et physiquement crédible, renforçant l’impression que cette ville n’appartient plus à un seul monde mais à tout un réseau de civilisations dispersées dans l’espace.
La profondeur doit être vertigineuse. Les structures proches révèlent leurs détails mécaniques les plus fins tandis que les quartiers successifs deviennent progressivement plus pâles, plus froids et plus brumeux jusqu’à se confondre avec les nuages. La lumière solaire chaude dialogue avec les accents technologiques cyan et bleu électrique sans envahir la palette. Les nuages possèdent un volume naturel, des ombres internes complexes et une lumière atmosphérique crédible, donnant au fantastique une véritable sensation d’échelle et de réalité.
L’ensemble doit raconter non pas une conquête, mais une rencontre : une cité construite au croisement des routes stellaires, où les vaisseaux apportent chaque jour de nouvelles langues, de nouvelles formes de vie et de nouvelles histoires. Above an infinite ocean of clouds, a gigantic interstellar city rises between the sky and the stars, suspended at an altitude where the horizon seems to belong to another world. The light of a distant sun streams through the cloud masses and bathes the monumental architecture in ivory and golden radiance, while the depths of the megacity disappear beneath a sea of mist.
Immense urban structures emerge from the clouds like the still-living remnants of a civilization that has mastered the sky. Vertiginous towers, slender and irregular, pierce the atmosphere at varying distances. Between them stretch gigantic inhabited bridges, true suspended arteries connecting the city’s districts across the void. Their architecture reveals technology that is extraordinarily advanced yet believable: weathered alloys, structural panels, conduits, technical modules, illuminated windows, docking platforms, and countless functional details tell the story of centuries of urban evolution.
Several spacecraft with distinct silhouettes travel through the sky, each designed according to its function and origin. Some glide silently between the towers, while others emerge from the clouds or vanish toward distant districts. Their engines cast subtle blue glows, and their hulls bear the traces of technology that is used, maintained, and genuinely inhabited. No craft should appear duplicated: every spacecraft possesses its own mechanical identity.
In the foreground, a vast panoramic terrace overlooks the city. It forms a suspended garden where futuristic architecture and extraterrestrial vegetation coexist harmoniously. Delicate trees with pink blossoms, unusually shaped plants, and a few organic sculptures follow the curves of the platform. A cosmopolitan crowd of humans, androids, and beings from different worlds gathers there peacefully. A Ha-OIII-RGB composite of Messier 78 (NGC 2068) is my first attempt at this deep sky object and this type of post-processing. It was imaged in the northern hemisphere in my yard.
M78 is the brightest diffuse reflection nebula of a group of nebulae that includes NGC 2064, NGC 2067 and NGC 2071. This group belongs to the Orion B molecular cloud complex and is about 1,350 light-years distant from Earth.
