The ever tantalizing sow thistle with family of drifting seeds kissed by the light.

The lake of my previous photo, as seen from the other side. I had to scramble over some rocks to get these flowers in the foreground, but the result was worth it, I hope.
The flowers are Cicerbita alpina, Alpine sow-thistle, which can stand up to 2m tall. They are listed as rare plants in that region.
We decided to descend from the Walmendingerhorn via the Obere Walmendingeralpe and then into the Schwarzwassertal, and not directly to Baad. This proved to be a very good choice: the trail was less busy and there were masses of wildflowers to admire!
At this time of year it is the dandelion shaped flower heads that seem to be favourites with Bumble bees. I think this is a Common Carder Bee.
This one seems different to all the others I have encountered in that it is not globular, and is very fluffy.
Thanks to John Freshney this has now been identified as a Sow Thistle, which is not a true dandelion.

Micro-Nikkor 55mm f/2.8 and a 20mm extension tube attached to the camera with a Commlite dumb adapter. An aperture of f/11 selected on the lens but the true aperture used would have been much smaller due to the extension tube.

Commom Names: creeping sow-thistle, field sow-thistle, glandular-hairy perennial sow-thistle, Field Milk Thistle, Moist sowthistle, dindle, field sowthistle, gutweed, swine thistle, or tree sow thistle, hare thistle, hare lettuce, Canadian thistle, Common sowthistle, Smooth Sow-Thistle, Tree Sowthistle.

La plante entière contient un latex laiteux qui s'écoule lorsqu'on casse la tige ou les feuilles.
Noms communs: laiteron vivace, bouquet jaune, crève-z-yeux, florent, roi des champs. chardon des champs, Chardon du Canada, Laiteron commun, Cirse des champs, Echausside, Picot, Cardron, Cherdu.

Sonchus arvensis has many common names: field milk thistle; field sowthistle; perennial sow-thistle; corn sow thistle; dindle; gutweed; swine thistle; and tree sow thistle. It is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae. S. arvensis often occurs in annual crop fields and may cause substantial yield losses.
It is native to Europe, where it is widespread across most of the continent. It has also become naturalized in many other regions, and is considered an invasive noxious weed in some places, such as North America, Russia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australia.

Navajo people historically used Sowthistle Desert Dandelion for medicinal purposes. They used this plant to address vomiting. It is important to note that it is not known if it was to induce vomiting or to stop vomiting.
