Erice is a charming typically medieval village located on top of the homonymous mountain.
From its 751 meters of altitude it dominates the city of Trapani and the salt pans located along the coast.
In the past the mountain was called San Giuliano, on top of which stood a famous sanctuary dedicated to the Goddess of fertility and protector of sailors.
For the Phoenicians the Divinity was called Astarte, for the Greeks Aphrodite and finally Venus Ericina for the Romans.
Erice is an open-air museum and is suitable for slow tourism. It should be savored calmly, walking through the narrow cobbled alleys, alternating visits with moments of rest and relaxation.

Erice è un grazioso borgo tipicamente medioevale situato in cima all’omonimo monte.
Dai suoi 751 metri di altitudine domina la città di Trapani e le saline situate lungo la costa.
In passato il monte si chiamava San Giuliano, in cima al quale sorgeva un celebre santuario dedicato alla Dea della fecondità e protettrice dei naviganti.
Per i Fenici la Divinità si chiamava Astarte, per i Greci Afrodite ed infine Venere Ericina per i Romani.
Erice è un museo a cielo aperto ed è adatta per un turismo lento. Va assaporata con calma, camminando per gli stretti vicoli in acciottolato, intervallando le visite con dei momenti di pausa e relax.
les vacances de mon enfance se sont souvent déroulées dans la vallée de la Matapédia. En route, sur la banquette arrière, je regardais le paysage et j'étais loin de me douter que ces routes qui n'en finissaient plus allaient un jour venir me hanter. Depuis des années, je sillonne l'arrière pays du Bas-du-Fleuve à la recherche de ces routes de mon enfance. Aujourd'hui, je me rends compte que c'est comme retourner dans son école primaire, ce n'est jamais aussi grand que dans nos souvenirs... Je me suis quand même régalée à faire cette photo ☺

This beautiful stone is a souvenir of a holiday on the Baltic Sea. Every day we ran with our heads down, our eyes fixed on the ground, along the beach and collected the most beautiful stones. The selection was not easy. We would all have liked to take home, so wonderful shapes and colors were there to find. They were real jewels. Some are still lying on my desk and keep the memory of the Baltic Sea vacation awake.
Dieser schöne Stein ist ein Souvenir eines Urlaubes an der Ostsee. Jeden Tag liefen wir damals mit gesenktem Kopf, den Blick fest auf den Boden gerichtet, den Strand entlang und sammelten die schönsten Steine. Die Auswahl war nicht einfach. Am Liebsten hätten wir alle mit nach Hause genommen, so wunderbare Formen und Farben waren dort zu finden. Es waren echte Schmuckstücke. Einige liegen immer noch auf meinem Schreibtisch und halten die Erinnerung an den Ostseeurlaub wach.

16 cm hoch und 9 cm Durchmesser
beautiful carved pendant from Africa given to me as a child many many years ago as a souvenir from my aunt. Had to hide the bottom of the pendant as it was wedged into a candle to keep it upright, you can just see a smidgen of the candle! Hey ho. HMM
