My online portfolio consists of both A2 and AS Fine-Art practical work undertaken by me in the studio and independently. The AS work is in response to the collection of artefacts at Snowshill Manor. I worked in a wide range of media.
In the second year of A Level I am engaged in the pursuit of an independently chosen programme of study. Following a harrowing visit to the underground war hospital in Guernsey, my work is exploring aspects of brutality and dehumanisation. Likening the patients to slabs of meat, I visited a butcher where I photographed carcasses and offal. This will culminate in large scale oil paintings. Influences have included Soutine, Jenny Saville and Francis Bacon.

Inspired by Rembrandt’s Carcass of Beef and Chaim Soutine’s gruesome paintings of slaughtered meat, I produced a large scale print portraying a carcass. The print was made with real meat that was covered with paint and then printed on paper.
You've got to be pissed off if you sat for your portrait and this was the result. That is unless Soutine knew some very strange looking people...

In this stately triptych, Zhiying pays tribute to Bacon while creating something new and quite sensational, just as he does in another imaginatively abstracted “remake” of “Painting 1964,” the seminal picture juxtaposing sides of beef with a sinister mortician-like figure half-hidden under a black umbrella with which Bacon made a early reputation (itself an amalgam of Soutine’s bloody Expressionist carcasses and the Renaissance master Masaccio’s fresco of the Trinity).
