I used to live in South Florida and always enjoyed the amazing sunrises and afternoon thunderstorms. I recently visited there and left with some great memories.

Until I realized that I have two lights out. Dam light bulbs never last.....

Purple Gallinules seem to love the flowers/fruits of water lilies. They voraciously rip them open and consume the soft interior of the fruit. This gallinule ran off with his cupcake-shaped fruit...he didn't want to share?

This Great Blue Heron looked very impressive as it displayed all of its plumes at Everglades National Park. Then it stuck its long tongue out (at me?). His bill appears to be closed, but his tongue is out. I'm not sure what he was doing, but I am sure that many viewers of this picture will have an answer :-)

Staircase of the Salvador Dali Museum: museum dedicated to the painter Salvador Dalí located on the campus of the University of South Florida in St. Petersburg (Florida).

Designed by the American architect Yann Weimouth (who was I.M. Pei's assistant for the Pyramid of the Louvre Museum in Paris), the Salvador Dali Museum combines the rational and the fantastic. It consists of a simple rectangle from which emerges a round shape, free, consisting of triangles of glass reminiscent of the dome of the museum of Dali in Spain. Inside is an eccentric and bold spiral staircase, reminiscent of Dali's obsession with the spirals and helical shapes of the DNA molecule …

One of the last gulls I saw, last April, before they all left for the Summer.

They should begin to return to South Florida in mid-November, and I can't wait !

Ornithoptera priamus, native to Australia, New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. These butterflies are large, and the females are larger than the males. They are toxic and have bright markings to warn predators. Their colors can vary by region and subspecies.

Alaus oculatus

Eastern eyed click beetles are not very common, but people tend to notice and remember them when they do see one. At one to two inches in length, these are large insects, and those large false eye spots on their head are just so conspicuous. It's to scare off predators and weirdos like me with a camera.

Per my friend, hjsyourcpa, I tried to bring out a bit more detail in the sky by applying a multiply blend layer to the sky only (masked out the rest) in order to bring out the detail.

If anyone has another method, I'd love to try it also. I think this helped quite a lot.

?

Thanks so much hjsyourcpa...great feedback!!!

This curious Osprey posed effortlessly for the camera at Everglades National Park near the Flamingo Visitor Center. My wife and suspect that it was eyeing the camera as a snack for its chick which was watching from a nest nearby. We both kept our gear well-guarded just in case. BTW, for those interested, winter is the best time of the year to spot wading birds, enjoy mild temperatures and avoid the dreaded mosquitoes at Everglades N.P.
