We all need the waters of the Mercy River. Though they don't run deep, there's usually enough, just enough, for the extravagance of our lives

"Reporting on Racial Tensions
An academic who has been commissioned to inquire into Chinese perceptions of racial tension in New South Wales has taken up duty as Lecturer in History.
Mr Henry Chan will teach Chinese and Japanese History to History Classes. This course, which was given by Dr. John Bach before his retirement last year, is unique in Australia, Mr Chan says, because in addition to combing studies of the countries it devotes attention to their very early beginnings. He has the commission from the Human Rights Commission and the Chinese Community Association of N.S.W.
Mr. Chan comes to this University from the University of Sydney, where he was a librarian in the Rare Book Library. His wife is an Associate Professor in English at the University of New South Wales.
He was a school teacher in New Zealand before becoming a Lecturer in History at Massey, University, Palmerston North.
He holds a M.A degree in Massey and an M.A. in Far Eastern History in the University of London.
For the last five years, Mr Chan has been Hon. Secretary of the centre for Asia Studies at the University of Sydney. He is presently involved in making arrangements for the fourth International Conference on the History of Chinese Science to be held at the University in May.
Mr. Chan surprised the NEWS by stating that his principal subject speciality is no Far Eastern History, but the History of European Science and Political Thought in the 17th and 18th Centuries. He developed this special interest while he was living in New Zealand."

This is another brook that just boils up out of the soil beside the creek - we drank from this stream. There's nothing that tastes as clean as a fast-flowing mountain brook.

St. Louis is the second-largest city in Missouri, United States. It sits near the confluence of the Mississippi and the Missouri Rivers, on the western bank of the latter. As of 2020, the city proper had a population of around 301,500, while the bi-state metropolitan area, which extends into Illinois, had an estimated population of over 2.8 million, making it the largest metropolitan area in Missouri, the second-largest in Illinois, the seventh-largest in the Great Lakes Megalopolis, and the 20th-largest in the United States.
Before European settlement, the area was a regional center of Native American Mississippian culture. St. Louis was founded on February 14, 1764, by French fur traders Gilbert Antoine de St. Maxent, Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau, who named it for Louis IX of France. In 1764, following France's defeat in the Seven Years' War, the area was ceded to Spain. In 1800, it was retroceded to France, which sold it three years later to the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase; the city was then the point of embarkation for the Corps of Discovery on the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In the 19th century, St. Louis became a major port on the Mississippi River; from 1870 until the 1920 census, it was the fourth-largest city in the country. It separated from St. Louis County in 1877, becoming an independent city and limiting its own political boundaries. St. Louis had a brief run as a world-class city in the early 20th century. In 1904, it hosted the Louisiana Purchase Exposition and the Summer Olympics.
A "Gamma" global city with a metropolitan GDP of more than $160 billion in 2017, metropolitan St. Louis has a diverse economy with strengths in the service, manufacturing, trade, transportation, and tourism industries. It is home to nine of the ten Fortune 500 companies based in Missouri. Major companies headquartered or with significant operations in the city include Ameren Corporation, Peabody Energy, Nestlé Purina PetCare, Anheuser-Busch, Wells Fargo Advisors, Stifel Financial, Spire, Inc., MilliporeSigma, FleishmanHillard, Square, Inc., U.S. Bank, Anthem BlueCross and Blue Shield, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Centene Corporation, and Express Scripts.
Major research universities include Saint Louis University and Washington University in St. Louis. The Washington University Medical Center in the Central West End neighborhood hosts an agglomeration of medical and pharmaceutical institutions, including Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
St. Louis has three professional sports teams: the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball, the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League, and the St. Louis BattleHawks of the newly formed XFL. In 2019, the city was awarded a Major League Soccer franchise, St. Louis City SC, which is expected to begin play upon the completion of a 22,500-seat stadium in the city's Downtown West neighborhood in 2023. Among the city's notable sights is the 630-foot (192 m) Gateway Arch in the downtown area. St. Louis is also home to the St. Louis Zoo and the Missouri Botanical Garden, which has the second-largest herbarium in North America.

So over the weekend, I finally got around to opening and play with Murasame Kai, who has been imprisoned in plastic since Boxing Day 2020. It was a strange experience, to say the least,
So the Parfom line is ultimately part of the Good Smile Company portfolio, and as mentioned in past articles, are kind of a Figma/Nendoroid hybrid with a focus on its highly expressive face plates. The source material, KanColle, is originally a mobile game where various pieces of naval hardware are personified by girls wearing bits and pieces of their namesake. I'm not at all familiar with this character, and basically bought her because she looked cute. I believe the "Kai" in her name comes from the fact she's in her upgraded form.
The contents of the package are pretty typical from what I can see. You get the main figure, three total face plates, various bits and pieces of a Battleship that make up her outfit and accessory load out, two gun blast effects, two wake effects, a belt for attaching her turrets to her waist, five additional posing hands, a metal chain with anchor, and the standard Parfom stand.
Aesthetically, she's pretty much what I was expecting. Chibified proportions with an oversized head. Nicely detailed hair. There's that one face plate, however, that I have no idea what they were going for, as it's a very vacant stare that I'm use to seeing on Hot Toys Black Widow figures, not so much my anime toys.
I do like that the figure can actually wield the two ship turrets as weapons. Definitely not something I can say any of my other figures can do. The antenna on her ankles look to me like things that can easily break, so be mindful I guess.
The manual, strangely enough, doesn't even mention the guns can be attached to the special hands. She's got a strange design quirk with that Battleship section strapped to her back - there's a very slim mast you're supposed to plug in, but for some reason the hole is positioned such that you can't stick the thing in straight, nor does the manual show how it's supposed to look when assembled.
Articulation is incredibly mixed bag, even though you wouldn't think it looking at her. So in terms of joints, Murasame has everything you'd expect her to have - ankles, single jointed knees, thigh twists, hips, waist, mid torso, dual shoulders with standard movement and some lateral movement, single jointed elbows, wrist, head, and one point for each twintail.
What's frustrating is I don't know exactly what happened, but raising her leg forwards or backwards at the hip is incredibly difficult, and the limited range of motion you get basically lets you make her stand kind of cool. From what I can tell, it's not the skirt that's in the way, but rather it's a design limitation of the cavity for the ball joint itself. Furthermore, as limited as the leg movement its, it's still better than the really limited head movement, which is really limited to just swiveling with almost no tilting options. An extra joint midpoint of the twintails wouldn't have hurt either. Ankle joints don't really allow for much movement other than swiveling.
Paint wise, this figure is ironically the best of the four that I own. She definitely didn't have wet paint right out the box like with my Amazon. Masking is cleaner, though it's far from perfect, but at least it meets Revoltech levels of cleanliness. Otherwise, paint blemishes can be attributed to the underlying plastic parts being warped. Her overall cleanliness can probably be attributed to the fact that the black is the base colour on her outfit, and is the predominate colour. Work on the faceplates meets the high expectations I have.
Finally there's build quality. Again, strangely this is one of the better assembled Parfom in my stash. With the other ones, there's parts that don't quite fit perfectly in their sockets and what not. Not here.. everything comes together and stays together. QC issues are limited to some rough finishes here and there. Otherwise, all other typical areas of concern are addressed.
In conclusion, strange situation where the overall product has a better spit polish on it than the rest I own, but oddly, worse range of motion despite a pretty freeing school girl outfit and of course, that strangely vacant stare. The top heaviness due to the backpack is not surprising, so you're gonna need that stand if you decide to pose her fully equipped.
The good news. however, is she's not that expensive.. in fact, I think she may be one of the least expensive ones aftermarket of the entire Parfom line. So if you're looking for something that's cute and live with some generic posing, this might scratch that itch.

Formerly known as: Payless Shoe Source; now known as: suburban blight!
The brown repaint was actually very recent, and I believe something is on the verge of opening up here again. But before this it really was starting to become blightish, the signature payless black paint on the exterior fading to an ugly grayish patina.
This 1994(?) built Payless Shoe Source stuck around until 2006(?) before fleeing across town, where everything was newer and shinier. Question marks on the dates again, I would of thought it was a little older than 1994, possibly built in the late 80's. 2006 does sound about right for the closing date however, as that's about when Payless would of moved to the Southaven Towne Center. Ye Olde English spelling always makes things like "shoppes" and "townes" seem cooler!

"From Portland State
Professor Ray Johnson comes from Portland State University in Oregon. He is visiting the Department of Commerce for two months and will primarily teach, and pursue research in, auditing.
‘My research has been mainly concerned with examining ways of making auditing more efficient and effective. This research involves developing client profiles that assist the auditor to identify areas of the financial statement in which error are probable; he said.
Why come to the University of Newcastle? ‘Professor Donald Watne visited your University early last year. Don is a colleague of mine at Portland State and he said it was an exciting and educational leave for him in Newcastle. Like Don, I am enjoying being here and teaching auditing and accounting.
Professor Johnson went on: ‘It is a real pleasure for me to discuss various methods of financial reporting with the faculty. I have been able to open my vistas to different ideas.’
He comes from a state which is arguably the most beautiful in the United States. He enjoys outdoor pursuits in the Oregon Mountains and along the Oregon coast.
Ray Johnson has made certain that he sees other part of Australia life apart from the campus of the UN. He has already managed to go scuba diving at Heron Island in the Barrier Reef. He described the underwater world as ‘simply magnificent’; "

Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arizona
Arizona is a state in the Southwestern region of the United States, sharing the Four Corners region of the western United States with Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. Its other neighboring states are Nevada to the northwest and California to the west. It also shares an international border with the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California to the south and southwest. It is the 6th-largest and the 14th-most-populous of the 50 states. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix, which is the most populous state capital in the United States.
Arizona is the 48th state and last of the contiguous states to be admitted to the Union, achieving statehood on February 14, 1912. Historically part of the territory of Alta California and Nuevo México in New Spain, it became part of independent Mexico in 1821. After being defeated in the Mexican–American War, Mexico ceded much of this territory to the United States in 1848, where the area became part of the territory of New Mexico. The southernmost portion of the state was acquired in 1853 through the Gadsden Purchase.
Southern Arizona is known for its desert climate, with extremely hot summers and mild winters. Northern Arizona features forests of pine, Douglas fir, and spruce trees; the Colorado Plateau; mountain ranges (such as the San Francisco Mountains); as well as large, deep canyons, with much more moderate summer temperatures and significant winter snowfalls. There are ski resorts in the areas of Flagstaff, Sunrise, and Tucson. In addition to the internationally known Grand Canyon National Park, which is one of the world's seven natural wonders, there are several national forests, national parks, and national monuments.
Arizona is home to a diverse population. About one-quarter of the state is made up of Indian reservations that serve as the home of 27 federally recognized Native American tribes, including the Navajo Nation, the largest in the state and the country, with more than 300,000 citizens. Since the 1980s, the proportion of Hispanics has grown significantly owing to migration from Mexico and Central America. A substantial portion of the population are followers of the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Arizona's population and economy have grown dramatically since the 1950s because of inward migration, and the state is now a major hub of the Sun Belt. Cities such as Phoenix and Tucson have developed large, sprawling suburban areas. Many large companies, such as PetSmart and Circle K, have headquarters in the state, and Arizona is home to major universities, including the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, and Northern Arizona University. The state is known for a history of conservative politicians such as Barry Goldwater and John McCain, though it has become a swing state in recent years.

Arizona Route 66 Museum
The Arizona Route 66 Museum opened in Kingman, Arizona on September 29, 2001 during Andy Devine Days. The museum, located in the Powerhouse Visitor Center, formerly the Desert Power & Water Co. Electric Power Plant, depicts the historical evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Route 66.

Opened September 2001, the Arizona Route 66 Museum is located in Kingman’s Historic Powerhouse and depicts the historical evolution of travel along the 35th parallel that became Route 66. Visit the Museum text page to see the signs text translated in other languages.
Brilliant murals, photos, and life-size dioramas capture each of the groups that have traveled what came to be known as the Mother Road. Follow the paths of the Native American trade routes and the U. S. Army led survey expeditions. Travel along with the settlers on their migration west over the nation’s first federally funded wagon roads. Feel the hardship and despair of the dust bowl refugees as they journeyed along the Mother Road to a better life. Visit Main Street America as the 50’s usher in fun and excitement for Route 66 travelers.
The Route 66 Museum is truly unique in that it is a museum of history, housed in a historical building that lighted the way for the earliest Route 66 travelers. The building, built in two phases between 1907 and 1911, was operated by the Desert Power & Light Company and powered early Kingman and area mines starting in July, 1909. It also supplied power for the construction of Hoover Dam, until the Dam began producing cheaper hydroelectric power in the late 1930’s. It was soon mothballed, not to be restored until 60 years later when it was opened as a Visitor Center in 1997.
New in 2014, the Route 66 Electric Vehicle Museum, the first of its kind anywhere, is now open and can be accessed only through the Arizona Route 66 Museum! This 3,600 square foot Museum includes twenty-nine (and counting) vehicles on loan from the Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation, with members world-wide. The Foundation’s purpose is to preserve the history of and examples of electric vehicles from the nineteenth to the twenty-first century for all the peoples of the world to enjoy and learn from. The exhibit has been open since December 2014.

My custom designed lens suffered from a huge veiling flare problem. It was so severe that it was visible even when there were no light sources in front of the lens. I traced the problem to the 4 areas illuminated in the picture above.
The people I hired to handle this part just didn't pay enough attention to detail. I asked for edge blackening, but that was not done. I was also a bit concerned about the thick cylindrical area on the inside of stop, but I assumed that they knew what they were doing. In engineering, it is often impractical to test and iterate on prototypes until every problem is eliminated. The initial design often needs to be over designed in the easy areas to limit the number of things that can go wrong later. This was clearly not applied here.
