Located on Mary Vine Creek which is named after a legendary pioneer woman, Mary Vine.

Her fame arose from her many years of midwifery for women in this area.

Born in Kent, England and passed in Metchosin in 1907.

Mary’s first experience as a midwife on these shores came soon after her arrival from England in 1853 on the sailing vessel Norman Morison. She was very popular with the mothers of this time as there was not a lot of medical help nearby to assist with births.

Fishing boat moored at the government wharf in Sooke BC Canada. This wharf is where most of the fishing fleet on southern Vancouver Island moor as it's a shorter trip to the best fishing grounds. A mild calm day in beautiful Sooke made for a perfect reflection and added to the photo.

Finally back out and about in the wilderness today - felt so good!!

It has been far too long - I will do my best to keep up with more frequent posts.

These falls are the fullest that we have ever seen after days of heavy rains - had to keep wiping my camera lens for water spray/spots - so worth it :)

Sometimes the falls themselves get all the attention, but in this case, the lower stream and smaller falls are worthy of a look too.

Sandcut Beach Waterfalls, although a trickle at the moment are quite a bit more active in the fall when the rains come. The waterfalls are modestly-sized at 10-15ft tall spilling onto the pebbly beach from the Sandcut Creek ultimately joining the Strait of Juan de Fuca, which separates Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. Sandcut Beach is a long and spacious beach and usually only has a few people on it and never seems crowded. The trip to the beach from Victoria is about a 65km drive and from the parking lot to the beach requires a 10 minute hike through a temperate rainforest. The stone the falls go over is sandstone and you can see how it has been carved out from years of the pounding Pacific Ocean. The tide was low at this time of day, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to take this photo.

Today Jason and I meet up at the Sooke Pothholes and our target was Mary Vine falls... mission sucess...

One of the smaller waterfalls on Mary Vine Creek.

Another view - front view of the falls - surrounded by deep lush green mosses and plants.

The water fall never disappoints.

Heavy water flow seeks the path of least resistance on Mary Vine Creek.

Just love the deep greens of the mossy covered rocks and branches this time of year - full of life and moisture!

Another image from yesterdays exploring... It was a really great spot that I plan on visiting again.

A pano made up of 5 images taken on the weekend. This location has so much potential for getting some amazing shots. This is a place I will be going back to again.

2nd record for vancouver island

Exploring some of the images taken the other week, I found this great little composition that just begged to be published.

A spot that I have spent almost a year looking for, and finally was able to explore. A really nice spot that I'm going to have to come back to with a model.

A bit of exploring today on my way to help a friend found me above the fog near the Strait of Juan de Fuca

While exploring last weekend, I discovered this little cove that held the colours of the sunset.

Three birds posing on the Whiffin Spit in Sooke BC.

Sunrise from Creyke Point. Creyke Point is located on the South Eastern corner of East Sooke Park on Vancouver Island B.C.

A great night camping and going for the first astrophotography shots of the year.

These small sandpipers (about 6 and 1/2 inches) are in constant movement as they scurry along the rocky beach edge among kelp and sea weed. We spent a lot of time trying to sneak up or follow them along the waves and of the zillion shots managed to get a couple of good ones.

The fall has finally arrived to Southern Vancouver Island and the leaves of change are upon us.

Took this shot last fall at the Sooke Potholes about an hour from Victoria BC.

A Panorama of Mary Vine Creek Falls.

Part of our amazing sunset shooting evening, We arrived and found our spot about an hour before sunset. This is one of my first images. Just sitting back and waiting for sunset to create that fire in the sky look.

Todd Creek Waterfall cascading towards the Sooke river inside Sooke Potholes Provincial Park.

Another image from the weekend, this time in black and white... it gives the image a very moody look. What do you think?

Last days of September, trying to negotiate some large bolders at the edge, to get closer to the Sooke River when this guy landed on the rock over my right shoulder as if to check me out and say good-bye til next Spring.

Another image from my pre-New Years shoot. It was great being out with friends, and exploring the area.
