The Aurora borealis, Northern Light was very strong in May and October 2024.

In this photo you can see the Seven Sister just under the center of the photo.

I was very lucky this day, at first in the evening, there was clouds all over the sky, but a very strong wind made it clear up a bit and then the show started.

Starlings (Sturnus Vulgaris).

Visitors to my garden. Many know the Starling as somewhat of a pest, yet mesmerising in murmurations. Up close I find them amazing with so many colours that shine in one light and almost dull like in another.

Cloître de la Basilique Santa Croce de Florence

Hastily took shot. This Swan was attacking a Coot. The Coot was being forcefully held underwater. It had already been suffocated several times as others were describing in utter disbelief. I could hear the commotion of the attack and by people witnessing it. This must have been the final moment of the Coots death as I raced for my camera.

Eurasian Blue Tit, (Cyanistes Caeruleus).

Visitors to my garden.

For several years this nest box in my garden has had a mating pair of Blue Tits (Cyanistes Caeruleus). It's lovely to see them back once again. Whether it's the same pair annually is unknown. They may be offspring from previous years?

Amazing Grey Heron.

This Grey Heron (Ardea Cinerea) resides a few short miles away but is a frequent visitor to Arnot Hill Park and stays for hours at a time, I was reliably informed.

Watch my short video on YouTube.

This Bluethroat is the southern race L. s. cyanecula, which is called Red-spotted Bluethroat, it breeds in reed forests. The northern race L. s. svecica which is called Red-spotted Bluethroat, which some in Norway popular call "The Nigtingale of the Mountain", so I think the southern race could be called "Reed Nightingale". This one was not shy and it was singing most of the time, some times it flew up while it was still singing. The song of the Bluthroat is much more beautiful then the Nightingale ! You can see that this Bluethroat is relaxed, puffed out feathers, not slim looking and sitting on one leg. The photo is slightly cropped. I see too many bird photographers that do not compose their photos proper, do not have the bird in the center, move the focuspoint slightly up and to either the right or the left side, the bird must look "into" the photo.

Carry as little as possible, but choose that little with care.

Had a great time at this steam punk event. Papplewick Pumping Station, here in Nottinghamshire. It's a perfect venue. Despite some rainfall, it didn't deter folks.
