Fog in the desert is more rare than rainfall and creates a surreal look and feel. My eye could see this better than my camera so the use of a watercolor effect and black border helps, I think, to convey the magical wonder of Saguaro giants shrouded in Sonora mist,
Taken in our garden.
Thank you all for your visits comments and faves much appreciated!
Have a nice day.
It's all downhill from here. And deceptively steep. I didn't realize how steep until I smelled burning brakes.
Had to pull over and let the brakes cool, but it gave me an opportunity for some cool pics.

Driving a motorcycle on hwy 108 over Sonora Pass is twisty, steep and technical, with it having a 26% grade. For 80 miles, it offers a landscape that's amazing, on a road surface that's near perfect. These riders are at 9,600'.

In late October 2009 we missed the full blown color of Fall in the Eastern Sierras, but caught bits and pieces of color at the end of her reign. Unfortunately it was quite windy, so photography was a challenge to say the least.

I visit the Eastern Sierras any chance I get. Sonora Pass is Hwy 108 which runs from Hwy 395 to Sonora, and it is a stunning drive! This was taken last Fall late Oct), and I just recently finished processing it!

When I woke up the second day of my trip, my truck was covered in two inches of snow and it was cold. The roads in Bridgeport were clear, but they had closed all the passes back to the other side of the Sierras. I waited until the temperatures rose above freezing and decided to explore North of Bridgeport.
My first stop was Highway 108 and the Sonora Pass. The pass was closed, but I was able to drive about five miles up Highway 108 and get a great view of this valley. I loved the view with Junction Creek and the new snow in the mountains. I drove back towards Bridgeport after this stop hoping for more great vistas. I wasn't disappointed.
A typical landscape of the sonoran desert in the very south of Arizona.
I love these shadeless forests...
NO EDITING ON THIS ONE.
This was the very first shot I took was we arrived at this location. I was hoping to get there before the sun set and we just made it. This was shot just a few miles west of Strawberry, CA. It was a wonderful finish to a great day in Yosemite and Sonora Pass.

Late afternoon and the Cool Summer Nights Program on the grounds of the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona.
We stood on a Sonoran beach in Mexico looking west toward the sun setting behind clouds over the Baja Peninsula. Something about the atmospheric conditions produced a brilliant orange coloration of the entire scene.
The Sonoran Desert a North American desert and ecoregion which covers large parts of the Southwestern United States in Arizona and California and of Northwestern Mexico in Sonora, Baja California, and Baja California Sur. It is the hottest desert in Mexico. It has an area of 260,000 square kilometers.
This highway is open seasonally. It closes at the first hint of snow because it is extremely steep. The summits elevation is about 9600 feet. Highway 108 runs through the Sierra Nevada mountain range and connects Mono and Tuolumne counties, both located in California.
buckle up it is one hell of a ride!
I thought I would post a couple photos of Sonora Pass, along Highway 108 over the Sierra Nevada Range. This is the next road north from Highway 120, now closed due to the Rim Fire. The fire crews are making a concerted effort to prevent the fire from reaching the 108 corridor -- it would be extremely difficult to fight the fire in the steep canyons of this rugged area. These photos also give a good sense of what the terrain is like east of the fire.
Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for all of your kind comments. Hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday. The smoke cleared around Lake Tahoe briefly this morning so I was able to get out for a walk in the forest behind the neighborhood.
